January 22, 2023 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

One of Houston's greatest strengths is the diversity of the people who call it home, and its grocery stores are a prime example of the city's rich cultural tapestry. That's especially true of the local supermarkets specializing in foods from Southeast Asia. Houstonians are spoiled for choice when it comes to sourcing specialty oils, spices, produce, packaged goods and snacks from the other side of the world. The following eight heavy hitters are a great place to start. 99 Ranch Market You could easily spend hours in a 99 Ranch Market location. The large national chain is a reliable source for items from a range of Asian countries, and has a renowned bakery churning out fresh baked goods—the egg tarts come highly recommended. In addition to all of the typical grocery sections, 99 Ranch also features live seafood, home goods, cosmetics and a food court. Because the store's offerings are so vast, it's a good place to stop in when your shopping list includes a variety of … [Read more...] about The best places to shop for Asian food in Houston

Ford Mustang GT Battles Gated Audi R8, Ferrari F430 In Drag Races

February 3, 2023 by www.motor1.com Leave a Comment

The Ford Mustang GT offers a lot of performance for a reasonable price. It’s gotten more powerful and capable over the years, and a new Sam CarLegion YouTube video shows how it stacks up to legends like the Audi R8 and the Ferrari F430. The Mustang has the biggest engine of the bunch with its 5.0-liter V8. The naturally aspirated motor makes 460 horsepower (343 kilowatts) and 420 pound-feet (309 Newton-meters) of torque. This example sends its power to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. The Ferrari gets its power from a 4.3-liter V8 that makes 483 hp (369 kW) and 342 lb-ft (463 Nm) of torque. It has a six-speed automatic transmission sitting between the engines and the rear wheels. Lyle Lovett found peace on the seat of a Harley

August 15, 2011 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

WHEN Lyle Lovett went to Trinity Lutheran Church in Klein last Sunday -- it's the church his family has attended forever -- several members congratulated him on headlining the upcoming RodeoHouston. "I could tell from the greetings that, finally, because I'm playing the rodeo, I'm doing OK. This (music career) might work out," he says with a grin. The 43-year-old singer-songwriter, who has won several Grammy Awards and acted in movies (he's a favorite of director Robert Altman 's), is thrilled about performing at the rodeo for the first time, on Feb. 19. But if music is Lovett's passion, motorcycles rank a close second. When Lovett was 7, his family vacationed in Galveston. His father rented a small Honda sport bike, and they took a ride on the beach. "It was exhilarating. I had never felt anything like it," he recalls. "And I felt comfortable and safe, because I had my arms around my dad." Ever since that day on the beach, Lovett has held intense feelings about … [Read more...] about Lyle Lovett found peace on the seat of a Harley
