The India-made VW Polo VRS is on display at the GIIAS 2018 in Indonesia. The sporty hatchback made its debut at the IIMS 2018 in April. The VW Polo VRS is sportier than the VW Polo GT but not as performance-honed as the VW Polo GTI hot-hatch. It features black underbody spoilers, black ORVMs, VRS-branded grey/white decals with the ‘R’ letter highlighted in blue, 16-inch alloy wheels and black roof spoiler. Unlike the model shown at the IIMS 2018, the GIIAS display model does not have black paint on the alloy wheels. The VW Polo VRS’ main highlight is the 1.2-litre TSI engine under its hood. Volkswagen has tuned it to deliver 140 PS and 235 Nm of torque, up from 105 PS and 175 Nm respectively in the VW Polo GT sold in India. The 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission sends power to the wheels. Volkswagen indirectly confirms Honda WR-V-rivaling MQB A0-based VW Cross Polo
At a media conference in Brazil, Volkswagen confirmed that it would launch an entry-level crossover to compete with the Honda WR-V and Chevrolet Onix Activ. In all likeliness, the company was referring to the next-gen VW Cross Polo. The sixth-gen VW Polo has had a GTI variant from the get-go, but the ‘Cross’ variant has yet to make an appearance. Contrary to expectations, the arrival of the VW T-Cross would not mean the demise of the VW Cross Polo. The all-new VW Cross Polo will slot below the T-Cross. Volkswagen could name it the VW Polo Alltrack to differentiate the brands. As in the speculative renderings here, the next-gen VW Cross Polo will feature an outdoorsy look. The crossover variant could get its distinctive styling with silver skid plates, black cladding around the lower body, unique alloy wheels, ORVM housing in silver or black colour and silver roof rails. It should have a raised suspension for increased ground clearance and bigger rims. Volkswagen’s Polo R
Tweet TweetJust over a week ago, the Germans at Volkswagen finally revealed their entry to the World Rally Championship with a factory team that runs a special version of the Volkwagen Polo. Called the Volkswagen Polo R WRC, it seems like quite the bit of kit. It may look like a supermini city run about but this is a proper rally monster. Powered by a direct injection 1.6 liter TSI turbocharged four cylinder engine, the Volkswagen Polo R WRC develops 300 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. But that’s the bad news, the brighter side can be seen with how the Volkswagen Polo R WRC sends all that power through a sequential gearbox towards a four wheel drive system. At a minimum dry weight of 2.645 lbs, with all those joyous additions, VW’s Polo R Racer can clearly make quite the impresion on the competition when it joins the WRC program in 2013. That’s all extremely impressive, it will probably give the German people’s car a chance at getting the glorious World … [Read more...] about Volkswagen’s Polo R
Used Fiat 500 vs Honda Jazz vs Mini One vs VW Polo
This sounds like a bulk delivery for Captain Sensible. Four small cars with low emissions and fuel consumption. However, being sensible doesn’t have to be boring, and these four aim to show that small can be funky, or classy or nippy – but never boring. How well do they succeed? We have four different engine sizes, including two-, three- and four-cylinder units and some hybrid power thrown in. Clearly, manufacturers are trying an array of variables to provide a clean, powerful enough engine for a small car. The Honda kicks off with a four-pot engine but brings in a small electric motor to spice things up. There’s also a CVT transmission so be prepared for screaming revs when you put your foot down, not instantly accompanied by any great increase in speed. It handles reasonably well and is decently balanced, but the steering can go all vague and leave you wondering what’s going on. The four-pot diesel in the Mini is more straightforward, with a flexible … [Read more...] about Used Fiat 500 vs Honda Jazz vs Mini One vs VW Polo
