Listen to this article The eight-time world champion produced a dominant performance on the Monte Carlo’s famous asphalt roads to take a comfortable 18.8s victory from reigning world champion and Toyota team-mate Kalle Rovanpera. Ogier’s triumph makes him the most successful driver in the famous event’s history, as the 39-year-old pulled one victory clear of nine-time world champion Sebastien Loeb’s record at the rally. It was also the first WRC win for Ogier’s new co-driver Vincent Landais . "It's huge,” said Ogier when asked to explain what the victory means. "I love this rally. It's the one which gave me the dream right at the beginning and I am so happy for Vincent [Landais]. "For me it's nice, but for him it's a dream to take his first win. "We still need to enjoy these moments and that's why we are still here [in the WRC], to catch some victories like this. To win a famous one like Monte has no price. “It means a lot. This rally is the rally for me. For … [Read more...] about Ogier: Priceless record Monte Carlo WRC win will take time to sink in

Schools sink money into tutoring, but some programs fall short
Tracy Compton knew her fourth grader needed tutoring to make up for what she missed during the pandemic. But when the Virginia mother learned about the online program offered by her well-regarded suburban school system, her heart sank. "It's homework help," she lamented. Tutoring has become a go-to solution for school districts across the country, amid an unprecedented gush of federal dollars to address pandemic setbacks. But many districts are investing in opt-in online programs that experts say have not been shown to fill in learning gaps for students who need it most. What actually works, they say, is something else: more structured, data-driven "high-impact" tutoring, a method backed by years of research. It is typically delivered several times a week, over an extended period, using the same well-trained tutor to drill down on missed learning while staying aligned with classroom instruction. School districts identify students who need it, ideally incorporating it into … [Read more...] about Schools sink money into tutoring, but some programs fall short
Converted 6×6 With Trailer Is An Overlanding Home For Family Of Five
Living on the road is a dream many people share, even if you only live vicariously through YouTube. It's fun to see how people manage daily life, living out of small spaces while roaming the countryside. Adding children into the mix creates a whole new set of challenges, but in the case of this family of five, it seems they've adjusted just fine. Starting with the right vehicle makes all the difference. In this case, a military surplus 1998 Stewart and Stevenson M1088 semi-truck tractor. Originally configured as a dump truck, it has a tire inflation system and is more than up to the challenge of toting the 26,000-pound living space across all sorts of terrain. It's not the first Stewart and Stevenson conversion we've seen recently. These diesel-powered trucks are practically unstoppable. In this case, the M1088 is limited only by its 55-gallon fuel tank and 50 mph top speed. The interior is a marvel, with two slideout sections to double the living space. It features a … [Read more...] about Converted 6×6 With Trailer Is An Overlanding Home For Family Of Five
Houston Rockets report card: Grading Stephen Silas’s squad at midseason
The 2022-23 season isn't exactly going as planned for the Houston Rockets . Stephen Silas's squad approached the year viewed by many as a scrappy unit worth watching, one who could at best challenge for a play-in spot while at the very least earning a spot as a League Pass darling. The latter scenario hasn't even come to fruition thus far. The Rockets enter Friday night with an NBA-worst 10–31 record . They rank last in offensive rating. No team sports a lower assist percentage, and curiously, the NBA's second-youngest teams sits No. 28 in transition scoring. The Rockets aren't just a rebuilding team. They're sadly one of the league's uglier watches on a given night. Let's not be too dour with a half season remaining on the 2022-23 schedule. The Rockets do show flashes of promise amid the extended stretches of poor play, and there are multiple individual pieces with All-Star potential. Growing that talent into a cohesive group is now the challenge. So how should we … [Read more...] about Houston Rockets report card: Grading Stephen Silas’s squad at midseason
How to organize a small, messy kitchen
My kitchen is small. It’s not the smallest I’ve seen, but space is definitely at a premium. I have friends in San Francisco and New York City with kitchens that don’t even accommodate a refrigerator and some who have lived in places where the bathtub is in the kitchen . At about 76 square feet, mine is a pretty typical sized kitchen for a pre-war city building: one bank of cabinets butts right up to the window; there is space for a 27.5-inch wide refrigerator (no larger), and there is no room for a table (or really more than one person). There is only enough clearance between the two small banks of cabinets to accommodate the open refrigerator door: no more and no less. Trying to organize this small space so that it's efficient and neat looking often seems like an ongoing battle. After eight years, though, I’ve finally (almost) achieved optimal small kitchen organization and storage. It’s all about using the space you have as efficiently as possible and, as my mother would … [Read more...] about How to organize a small, messy kitchen
$1.3 M ‘Fixer to Fabulous’ Lake House in Arkansas Quickly Reels in a Buyer
A lake house in Bella Vista, AR , splashed onto the market a little more than a week ago as the highest-priced home listing in the area, at $1,295,000. The picturesque place immediately snagged a new owner. It's probably no surprise that the dwelling was in demand. The two-bedroom, 2.5-bath abode was renovated by Dave and Jenny Marrs of HGTV's " Fixer to Fabulous ." The home's locale on the shores of Loch Lomand, one of Bella Vista's seven lakes, also could have something to do with its sale for more than double the area's median price. Bella Vista is known as a posh retirement community, adjacent to Bentonville. From blah to beautiful The Marrs duo purchased the property in 2019 for $400,000. The home improvement specialists more than tripled the property's value by remodeling the house from the basement to the rafters. They added extra living space and expanded the windows to take full advantage of the remarkable lakefront views. As for the dated exterior, … [Read more...] about $1.3 M ‘Fixer to Fabulous’ Lake House in Arkansas Quickly Reels in a Buyer
Custom Camper Van Is An Electric-Powered Cat-Friendly Home For Two
Camper vans provide adventurous go-getters with a blank canvas to build their mobile life. Custom builds have become incredibly popular, with people tailoring their vehicles to their wants and needs. One couple did just that, creating a custom Freightliner Sprinter camper van with a trick "guest room." The camper van might look small outside, but there's plenty of room inside. A full-size bed sits at the back, forming the rear-accessible garage. The couple went with a full-size bed so they'd have more living space at the front. A small dining area separates the bedroom from the kitchen. This area features a folding table, with the fridge and freezer units hidden under one of the benches. The other bench hides the composting toilet. The main kitchen area with counter space on each side of the van is located toward the front of the vehicle. One side features the sink and induction cooktop. Underneath it is extra storage and a pantry with slide-out drawers. Tax the rich? Liberals renew push for state wealth taxes
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 Supporters of taxes on the very rich contend that people are emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic with a bigger appetite for what they’re calling “tax justice.” Bills announced Thursday in California, New York, Illinois, Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington and Connecticut vary in their approaches to hiking taxes, but all revolve around the idea that the richest Americans need to pay more. All of the proposals face questionable prospects. Similar legislation has died in state legislatures and Congress. But the new push shows that the political left isn’t ready to give up on the populist argument that government can and should be used as a tool for redistributing wealth. “Under the pandemic, while people struggled to put food on the table, we saw billionaires double their wealth,” said California Assembly Member Alex Lee, a Democrat. The Tax Foundation, a conservative-leaning … [Read more...] about Tax the rich? Liberals renew push for state wealth taxes
