Lewis Hamilton has taken it up a notch with his Japanese Grand Prix edition helmet which features a light-up visor. With drivers formerly restricted in the number of helmet designs that can be used throughout a season, that ruling was axed in time for the 2020 season, leading to an array of special edition helmets being run across the calendar. And now Hamilton has taken it to a new level with his Japanese GP lid. Absolutely awesome or over the top? We will let you decide. Lewis Hamilton unveils Japanese Grand Prix helmet Hamilton took to social media ahead of the race weekend at Suzuka to unveil the helmet he will be running on track, one of the likes we have not seen before. Designed in collaboration with Japanese illustrator Hajime Sorayama, the most unique feature undoubtedly is the fluorescent strip on the centre of the visor, which allows the helmet to illuminate. Wow. This Hajime Sorayama x Lewis Hamilton special helmet is so sick. pic.twitter.com/mnIK10WWZW — … [Read more...] about Lewis Hamilton unveils unusual light-up lid for Japanese Grand Prix

Japanese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen wins the race and the teams’ title, Perez implodes
It was business as usual for Max Verstappen as the reigning World Champion wrapped up the Constructors’ Championship for Red Bull with his 13th win of this season at the Japanese Grand Prix. The Dutchman was matchless at the Suzuka circuit as he romped to the victory by almost 20 seconds ahead of the McLarens of Lando Norris with Oscar Piastri third. His 26 points meant Red Bull won the Constructors’ Championship as they took an unassailable lead in the standings. However, it was a tale of two Red Bulls as Sergio Perez, twice pitting for a new front wing after hitting rivals, retired his RB19 from last place on lap 15 due to crash damage. The story of his race included two new front wings, two penalties, and a strange retired-unretired-retired situation. The Max Verstappen show resumes at Suzuka On a sweltering hot and windy Sunday at the Suzuka circuit, Max Verstappen lined up on pole position while Logan Sargeant, facing a 10-second penalty for Williams breaching the third … [Read more...] about Japanese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen wins the race and the teams’ title, Perez implodes
Japanese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen in indomitable form in FP1 at Suzuka
After Red Bull’s Singapore troubles, Max Verstappen looked unbeatable in Friday’s opening practice for the Japanese Grand Prix as the reigning World Champion sat P1 from start to finish. The 25-year-old, determined to bounce back after Red Bull suffered their first loss of the season last time out, clocked a 1:31.647 to beat Carlos Sainz by 0.626 seconds. Lando Norris was third fastest. Cloudy, sticky, with the track temperature at 37’C and humidity an unpleasant 75%, such was Verstappen’s determination to regain his top-driver status – and shrug of his Singapore’s woes – he was waiting at the end of the pit lane for several minutes for FP1 to begin. Max Verstappen leads from start to finish First out on track with his RB19’s rear end covered in flo-viz paint, he fired in a 1:33.7 as his opening gambit. Carlos Sainz also had a car full of flo-viz but not his own, the Ferrari driver getting sprayed by Lando Norris’ McLaren. With a mix of Pirelli’s hard, medium, and test tyres … [Read more...] about Japanese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen in indomitable form in FP1 at Suzuka
F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix?
Max Verstappen stormed his way to Japanese Grand Prix pole as first-time Suzuka visitor Oscar Piastri secured a spot on the front row. Having topped every free practice session, Verstappen had already put the writing on the wall for his rivals, indeed delivering on that threat by claiming pole for the Japanese Grand Prix by more than half a second. Piastri also made himself a major talking point for all the right reasons though, denying his McLaren team-mate Lando Norris a spot on the front row. Let us then run through the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix starting grid in full. Max Verstappen dominates in Suzuka Down a set of new softs, that did not stop Verstappen as his one-lap assault through Q1 and Q2 set the stage for him to blow the competition away come Q3, 0.581s up on Piastri as they prepare to share the front row. Lance Stroll out of the Singapore Grand Prix in joint decision with Aston Martin
Lance Stroll will not line up on the Singapore Grand Prix grid having taken the decision “together” with Aston Martin to sit out the race. Stroll suffered a massive crash in Saturday’s qualifying at the Marina Bay circuit when the Canadian clipped the kerbs through the final corner and lost the rear of his AMR23. He speared into the outside wall at speed, his car almost airborne, before spinning back across the circuit. Lance Stroll is ‘still sore’ after his qualifying crash He was taken to the track’s medical centre where he was cleared of serious injury but on Sunday morning made the call with Aston Martin to sit out the race. F1 results: FP3 timings from Japanese Grand Prix practice
Max Verstappen made it a clean sweep in Japanese Grand Prix practice as he saw off the McLarens to top FP3. Verstappen was forced to work hard for it, with McLaren at one stage threatening a one-two, but Verstappen found a whopping six-tenths to take P1 and put himself in prime position to push on for Japanese Grand Prix pole. But, with Norris and his McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri seemingly very much in the fight, Verstappen will not have it easy come qualifying. Norris set the early pace once the activity ramped up on the track following a slow start, clocking a 1:31.174, putting him seven-tenths up on McLaren team-mate Piastri and almost eight-tenths clear of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and George Russell soon muscled their way into the top-three, but Norris’ buffer stood still at a mighty six-tenths. It was soon Verstappen’s turn to settle into his familiar P1 spot, but with his advantage standing at just two-tenths, Norris would have been … [Read more...] about F1 results: FP3 timings from Japanese Grand Prix practice
It’s advantage McLaren in the strategy game at the Japanese Grand Prix
With Pirelli predicting the best strategy for the Japanese Grand Prix will be a two-stop of soft-hard-hard, it’s advantage McLaren as the Woking team is one of only three outfits where both drivers have those tyres in hand. Oscar Piastri will line up alongside Max Verstappen on the front row of the Japanese Grand Prix, the Aussie having grabbed a career-best grid slot, with Lando Norris sitting third. But while the McLarens didn’t have the pace to challenge Verstappen on Saturday as the reigning World Champion crossed the line an incredible 0.581s faster, they could try for a two-pronged attack on Sunday. McLaren: The only way we can attack Max is tactical And according to Pirelli they have the tyres do it. Formula 1’s tyre supplier believes the best strategy for the Suzuka race is a two-stopper with the driver starting on the soft tyres and then slitting the rest between two sets of hard tyres. On a weekend in which the drivers dealt with high temperatures and … [Read more...] about It’s advantage McLaren in the strategy game at the Japanese Grand Prix
Japanese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen lays down a marker against Red Bull rivals
Left to digest a wretched Singapore Grand Prix weekend, Max Verstappen emphatically answered the question in Japan as to whether that was a one-off, or the beginning of Red Bull’s downfall. His 1:30.688 in Friday’s second practice for the Japanese GP weekend put him 0.3sseconds ahead of Charles Leclerc at Suzuka with Lando Norris third fastest. On a muggy afternoon at the Suzuka circuit, the drivers hit the track on a mix of compounds with Pirelli’s prototype non-marked tyres also in play. Valtteri Bottas on the test tyres set the pace in the first 10 minutes with a 1:33.1. Max Verstappen in control in Japan There was an early problem for Verstappen, at least from those looking in from the outside, as the Red Bull driver had a tear-off stuck to the side of this car. But what might have been an issue for some was not for the reigning World Champion as he laid down a 1:31.3 to go fastest of all on the soft tyres. It was an interesting move, and maybe a sign of their … [Read more...] about Japanese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen lays down a marker against Red Bull rivals
