A state Republican political operative has filed a lawsuit against Mary Fay, the unsuccessful GOP candidate for state comptroller, and her treasurer, charging that their campaign failed to pay part of a contract to raise money that made Fay eligible for public financing. William J. Evans Jr., of Wolcott, charges that Fay, of West Hartford, and Casimir Mizera, of Stratford, wrongfully terminated his $26,000 contract signed in August, when Evans agreed to raise enough money for Fay to participate in the Citizens' Election Program. After writing checks totaling $16,000 for Evans, a former staff member of the state House of Representatives, Fay’s campaign did not pay off the balance of the contract, the lawsuit claims. Then Mizera, allegedly with Fay’s knowledge, defamed Evans when he “falsely suggested that the plaintiff was taking kickbacks from the campaign,” the lawsuit alleges. Evans claims his statewide reputation has suffered. Evans says that "false and defamatory … [Read more...] about CT Republican files lawsuit against former candidate claiming breach of contract

(AP) — In the wake of the worst massacre in Los Angeles County history, the California governor was meeting gunshot victims in the hospital when he was pulled away and briefed on a mass shooting at the other end of the state. 2008: BMW · RaceFans
BMW were Formula 1’s third-best team in 2007: an excellent achievement given they only took over the Sauber team two years ago. Their challenge for 2008 is to reduce the gap to the leading teams, McLaren and Ferrari, It’s a big ask, and early in winter testing it looked as though they’d actually taken a step backwards. But in the later tests it appeared they’d finally unlocked the potential of the F1.08 and were able to talk convincingly about getting closer to the Big Two. Robb set to be confirmed this week in Coyne IndyCar line-up
Listen to this article Over the off-season, Coyne tested Marcus Armstrong but he has been recruited by Chip Ganassi Racing to drive the #11 CGR-Honda on road and street courses, while Coyne’s former full-timer in the #51 entry co-owned by Rick Ware Racing, Takuma Sato, is the primary candidate for the #11 on ovals. Coyne, who sifted through six potential candidates for the #51 car, tested Sting Ray Robb on January 4 at Sebring, when Ganassi trialed 2021 Formula 2 runner-up Robert Shwartzman and Indy NXT (née Indy Lights) driver Kyffin Simpson, and Penske ran Dane Cameron. Robb finished the day second, just a few hundredths of a second off Shwartzman. “Sting Ray was really good, as fast as Shwartzman, basically,” said Coyne. “Shwartzman has a better résumé, driving with a bigger team, with an allegedly better engineer – our old one! [Ross Bunnell] – and we were just four-hundredths off. “So I’m very satisfied that Sting Ray can do a good job for us.
