Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance Chairman Carlos Ghosn is busy trying to convince shareholders of Nissan and Mitsubishi stock that Renault isn’t aiming to take over its Japanese partners. It’s proving to be no easy task. While Ghosn has been clear of late that a merger isn’t in the works, he’s simultaneously adamant that the relationship between the companies must become “irreversible” before he retires from the industry in 2022. Last month, Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa said he would prefer the two companies remain independent after Ghosn said there was no chance Renault would acquire Nissan and Mitsubishi outright. Earlier this year, Renault and Nissan were reportedly in talks for a merger that will spawn a new automaker that will trade as a single stock. However, the tie-up may take longer than expected. CEO Carlos Ghosn, in a report by Reuters, said the two entities are currently reviewing the ownership structure of their auto manufacturing alliance. Will the companies merge into a single listed entity this year or in 2019? “I don’t think so,” he said. Speaking at a Bloomberg conference, Ghosn reiterated that the carmakers were examining ways to consolidate the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance and assuage doubts about its survival after his eventual departure. Earlier this year, it was reported that Nissan has delayed the Nissan Kicks’ launch in India as it is still working on localising it. A definitive launch timeline wasn't available then. Now, a new report from Business Standard says that the launch will indeed be taking place sometime this year. Back in October 2013, Nissan had launched the Nissan Terrano by followed the Nissan GT-R in December 2016. No new models have been launched since fueling speculation that their focus is shifting from Nissan to Datsun. Datsun India has launched the Datsun Go Remix and Datsun Go+ Remix Limited Editions in India at Rs 4.21 lakh and Rs 4.99 lakh, respectively (both prices, ex-showroom). The Datsun Go had been the company's entry-level hatchback until the Redi-GO arrived last year. The Datsun Go+ MPV shares its underpinnings and mechanicals with the Datsun Go. The Remix Limited Edition models feature new hood and roof wraps, all-black interiors, and new dual-tone color combinations, as well as orange and black decals. The world’s largest automotive group in terms of sales is now the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, which sold 10,608,366 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in 2017. Now with Mitsubishi in the fold, the Alliance outdid the Volkswagen Group‘s 10.53 million units and Toyota‘s 10.2 million units. The Alliance said that growing demand for SUVs, light commercial vehicles and a rising number of zero-emission pure electric vehicles helped lift unit sales by 6.5% last year, which was also the first full-year of Mitsubishi’s membership.
