Petrol cars and SUVs are getting more popular in India, especially in the compact car segments of under Rs. 15 lakhs. The Renault Duster is around 6 years old in the Indian market and age is showing with slowing down sales. Renault has introduced many new well priced variants of the Duster in the past couple of years to boost sales. One such variant is the entry level petrol-automatic RXS trim, which is priced at Rs. 9.95 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. This makes the Renault Duster India’s cheapest petrol automatic compact SUV. Of course, there are similarly priced and even sub-4 meter compact SUVs with the automatic option but in the compact SUV class, there’s nothing cheaper than the Duster Automatic. The RXS trim of the Renault Duster Petrol Automatic uses the 1.6 liter-4 cylinder petrol engine which outputs 104 Bhp-140 Nm. This engine is paired to a CVT automatic gearbox that offers very smooth performance, which is typical of CVT automatics. Renault has updated the tried-and-tested K9K 1.5-liter diesel motor that powers a handful of cars from the Renault-Nissan group. The updated engine has been named as the ‘Blue dCi’. The motor offers a higher performance and lower emissions, which means we can safely expect this engine to power another generation of Renault-Nissan cars. It’s said that the upcoming new Renault Duster for India will get this engine. It’s noteworthy here that the all-new generation of the compact SUV was released a few months earlier. However, its India launch has been delayed owing to the introduction of the Captur. While every inch of the new Duster’s exterior design is new, it looks like an evolved version of the current car. The interior has also been completely updated. In all chances, this is the last time that the famed K9K 1.5-liter motor has got a new lease of life. Diesel engines for the passenger cars are on their way out globally and it’s only a matter of … [Read more...] about New Renault Duster to get a power BOOST: Here’s how
Yes, you read that right! Mercedes Benz, one of the most revered car manufacturers around the globe, has decided to give the A class hatchback the same engine that powers the Renault Duster compact SUV you all know of. Renault Duster scripted the success story for the French company in India. It was the first SUV from the brand that gained traction and made the Renault name a common sight on the roads. Even though the Duster has lost its charm, thanks to the stiff competition in the segment, it still is an enthusiast’s choice. There are many modified Renault Dusters out there on the Indian roads and here are the top five ones. The new Duster was unveiled recently and is expected to be launched in India in the coming months. The new design looks like an evolution of the current Duster with a new grille, headlamp, and tail lamp. The interior is all-new as well and on the whole the new Duster looks quite modern. The current Duster has been Renault's best seller in India, however, it had begun to grow long in the tooth. The refreshed Duster should inject a fresh lease of life into the model. Back in 2015 when Hyundai launched the Creta in India, the SUV was not a sub 4m offering and was much larger than the other compact SUVs like the EcoSport. It rivalled the likes of the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano. While the other SUVs have not been an outright success, the Creta has been a serious volumes earner for Hyundai. The company might be aiming to maintain this lead with the launch of the 2018 Creta that is scheduled to arrive in May 2018 in India. The facelfted Hyundai will face a similar design as the ix25 sold in China The 2018 Hyundai Creta was recently spotted at what looks like a TVC shoot, as reported by Team-BHP.com. The image is a low resolution image but does highlight some of the design details of the 2018 Hyundai Creta. One can see the resemblance of the new Creta with that of the ix25 that was showcased at the Chengdu Auto Show in China. The bumper has been redesigned with flared contours below the headlamps while the grille is now bigger with a dark-chrome … [Read more...] about 2018 Hyundai Creta spotted, to be launched in India in May this year
French carmaker Renault is reported to have pulled the plug on AWD (All Wheel Drive) variants of its popular Duster range. The compact SUV entered the Indian market almost six years back while the AWD variants (RxL AWD and RxZ AWD) were introduced in September 2014. However, the AWD trims weren’t able to enjoy the same acceptability in India as some of the ladder-frame SUVs with 4×4 systems.Last year, the diesel RxL variants were axed which made AWD functionality exclusive to the top-of-the-line 110 PS RxZ variant. Now, the company seems to have got rid of the RxZ AWD trim as well since some authorised dealers are reported to have stopped taking fresh bookings. As part of clearing out existing stock, the AWD variants are being offered with good discounts as well. The Duster AWD variants didn’t generate enough demand and could have been a possible reason for the mild response for the Renault Captur, as the latter doesn’t come with AWD. Price for the Duster AWD is … [Read more...] about Renault Duster AWD Discontinued In India
The brand MG is as old as they come. Dating back to 1923 the British automaker (now under SAIC's wing) is making its India debut this year! Yes, while earlier reports suggested that the first MG Motor cars will roll out in 2019-2020, the brand seems to have revised its strategy and now will launch its first car for India, an SUV, in 2018 itself. From what we could gather, it's going to be a mid-sized 5-seater SUV, roughly the size of the Jeep Compass. But here is where it gets interesting: MG will look to price this SUV aggressively, possibly to a point where it falls in the Rs 10-14 lakh bracket. That's Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster territory. This will not only make the SUV great value for money, but at the same time establish MG as a 'more for less' carmaker. Now, if we try to pinpoint to a product in MG's lineup it narrows down to the MG ZS SUV. It fits the profile and the price bracket. Dial in the fact that the ZS … [Read more...] about MG Motor To Launch SUV In India This Year!

But 2017 has been a different story for Renault in India. The three-digit growth of 2016 and a bigger base made it challenging for the firm to sustain growth. Renault has not reported its volume for last calendar year but data collected from Siam shows that the carmaker sold 112,492 units in 2017. This is a decline of 15 per cent over the record 132,235 vehicles it sold in 2016. It is learnt that Renault had set a business plan to clock sales of 120,000 units last year but it could not meet this target. Renault did not respond to a questionnaire from Business Standard. The decline in volume is primarily linked to a drop in sales of the Kwid, an SUV styled small entry segment car that triggered the spectacular growth in 2016. The car, once seen as a strong competitor to India’s most sold car, Maruti Suzuki Alto, brings 81 per cent of volume for the French carmaker. But Kwid, in 2017, could not maintain or build upon the volume it clocked in the first full year after the September … [Read more...] about 15 per cent dip in sales: Why Renault is struggling to grow in India
