The facelifted Kia Sportage may be due out at the Paris Motor Show in October, but we don’t have to wait to get a full look at the changes, as our spy photographers have caught the refreshed SUV completely undisguised – both inside and out. Changes are clear to see at the front, where you’ll find new headlights with four-point LED daytime running lights, similar to the new Cerato and Ceed. This GT Line model also sports a revised front bumper design with larger arrow-shaped surrounds for the signature “ice cube” fog lights (which themselves have been redesigned), joined together by a slim chrome trim piece. The grille gets a new insert with T-shaped studs. At the rear are new LED tail lights with C-shaped light guides, new rear fog light, reverse light and indicator assemblies, a chrome strip mirroring the front and new skid plates with dual integrated oval exhaust tips. Those tips are fake, however – look closely and you’ll see the real … [Read more...] about SPYSHOTS: Kia Sportage facelift caught undisguised!

Like many other automakers, Kia is working on a new model to compete in the small but growing subcompact crossover segment. A new prototype for the upcoming B-segment CUV model has been spotted with minimal camouflage on the front, giving a few hints at what the production model will look like. Caught testing in the Southwestern U.S., the Kia prototype doesn’t appear to be based on the Chinese-market KX3 or the Hyundai ix25 crossover, but may be based on the Kia Soul hatchback. The new crossover will compete with the Chevrolet Trax, Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3, and Nissan Juke. Styling for the new model appears to be influenced by the Kia Niro concept from the 2013 Frankfurt auto show. Where the two-door concept featured a raised coupe-like body and “butterfly” doors, the production car will feature four doors and a more traditional roof line. The prototype does take some styling cues from the concept car including the small headlights placed high on the fenders and the … [Read more...] about Kia B-Segment Crossover Prototype Spied Testing in U.S.
Here’s a fact we bet you didn’t know about Mazda’s CX-5 compact crossover: Nearly half of them are sold in top-of-the-line Grand Touring trim. Keep that in mind when you study the redesigned CX-5’s base price of $24,985, which is slightly higher than the cost on an entry-level Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, or Nissan Rogue. The CX-5’s base price is exactly the same as that for the new Honda CR-V and less expensive than the Toyota RAV4. Mazda says it is aiming the CX-5 at a more premium buyer than the compact-segment norm, so it has stuffed the SUV with far more standard equipment than last year’s model had.On its face, the 2017 CX-5’s base price looks a lot more expensive than last year, but the comparison isn’t apples to apples. The previous CX-5 came standard with a six-speed manual transmission, front-wheel drive, and a smaller, weaker engine. In the new lineup, all CX-5s have the same (previously … [Read more...] about Redesigned 2017 Mazda CX-5 Brings More Everything and a Better Standard Engine for $910 More
To say the Sorento’s transformation from rugged body-on-frame SUV to car-based softroader has been a sales success is putting it mildly. In the first 27 months of production Kia shifted more Sorentos than they did the 8 years prior. Sales numbers like that catapulted the Korean krossover (couldn’t help it) from CX-9/Xtera/Murano competition to 7th place in the midsized battlefield. Three model years later, Kia is spicing things up with a refresh. I know what you’re thinking: why bother looking at a refresh? Because 2014 brings enough changes to call the 2014 Sorento a redesign. After three years, most car companies slap on a new nose, tweak some paint and trim options and call it good for another three years. At first glance it seems that Kia has done the usual, but the similarity is skin deep. The front and rear get tweaks of course, but its the chassis that’s been substantially changed with new floor stamping to improve interior room, new suspension … [Read more...] about Review: 2014 Kia Sorento EX (Video)
The Kia Sorento enters the 2019 model year with a host of noteworthy changes including refreshed styling, standard third-row seating throughout the model line, and the elimination of the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four from the engine lineup. Kia claims the 240-hp, gas-sipping four-cylinder will be replaced by a new diesel engine that’s still in development. The carmaker provided no other details about the diesel. As in the 2018 model, the 2019 Sorento comes standard with a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter inline-four rated at 185 horsepower, while an optional 3.3-liter V-6 offers a big step up to 290 horses. The four-cylinder once again pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission; however, the V-6 trades up to a new eight-speed unit. Both transmissions offer a Smart driving mode that automatically switches between Eco and Sport modes as deemed necessary. All-wheel drive remains an option.Accompanying the revised powertrains are fortified exterior … [Read more...] about Updated 2019 Kia Sorento Loses Turbocharged Engine; Diesel Coming Soon

It’s easy to see why some automakers resist putting premium features in mass market models. All you need to do is look at that luxury showroom to the right. In the quest to differentiate, say, the Ford Fusion from its Lincoln counterpart, or the Toyota Avalon from the Lexus ES, and so forth, manufacturers limit the options and luxuries available on the more pedestrian models. On the surface, the Optima SXL’s mission could be confused with that of competitors from other non-luxury marques — Accord Touring and Fusion Titanium to name two — but Kia takes its top-trim game a couple steps further. You see, Kia is in a … [Read more...] about 2016 Kia Optima SXL Review – Short Road to the Top (Video)
