Will Power avenged a bitter defeat in last year’s Detroit Grand Prix by taking the win in the final IndyCar race held around the Belle Isle Street Circuit, charging from 16th on the grid and managing his final stint to perfection to cap off his first win of the season. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Power was one of the few drivers to start the race on the harder primary tyres – which would be the preferred race tyre as it was last year. It took him less than ten laps to work his way into the top five. On lap 14, he overtook pole winner and Penske team mate Josef Newgarden – who started on the softer alternate tyres – for the race lead. Power pitted once on lap 25, going to another set of primary tyres, with the aim of stretching out his advantage before doing a shorter final stint on the alternates. His competition was not Newgarden – but Alexander Rossi , who discarded the alternate tyres after four laps and committed to a three-stop strategy. In the Washington Commanders' 10 training camp practices so far, quarterback Carson Wentz has been consistently uneven, sometimes throwing incredible darts and other times inexplicable ducks. He has hit hard throws deep and missed easy ones short and they've occasionally come close enough together to prompt the question: How? "[His accuracy] is a lot better than you give him credit for, just because of the way things happen in practice," Coach Ron Rivera said Saturday night after the team's workout at FedEx Field. "There's a lot of little nuances that we see and that we look at and get to review. There are some inaccuracies, but it's nothing that we are overly concerned about." The problem, Rivera argued, is circumstantial. Wentz is still adjusting to a new scheme with new terminology and new progressions, as well as a fast group of receivers who resemble "a 4x100 track team." Give him enough reps, Rivera said, and the offense will be good. For now, though, even die-hard fans … [Read more...] about Carson Wentz’s training camp performance has been consistently inconsistent
Let's be clear up front: No one knows for sure whether Archibald Butt and Francis Davis Millet were in a romantic relationship. In the times and society in which they lived, for such a thing to become known would have meant ruin. Here's what we do know. Butt never married. Millet was estranged from his wife and had a previous relationship with a man. Butt and Millet lived together in a mansion in Washington's tony Georgetown neighborhood, where they threw parties for the city's elite - including Butt's boss, President William Howard Taft. And in the weeks before they died on the Titanic, they were vacationing together in Europe. "The enduring partnership of Butt and Millet was an early case of 'Don't ask, don't tell,' " historian Richard Davenport-Hines wrote in 2012, referring to the policy that once required gay members of the military to keep their sexuality secret. A National Park Service page for the White House memorial fountain in their honor says they were "widely … [Read more...] about Two prominent men died on the Titanic – were they secretly a couple?
Listen to this article Another day, another James May roasting session, courtesy of Drivetribe on YouTube. We've seen the former Top Gear host roasting cars of celebrities before, but not for this video. On stage for this roast is Drivetribe's resident Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody – a long-term loaner that Richard Hammond previously drove to work a few months ago . The other member of The Grand Tour trio had his share of criticisms of the four-door American muscle, now it's time for Captain Slow to voice his grievances. Gallery: 2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody: Review 30 Photos First off, May called the Charger ridiculous as it's screamingly huge. It's even wider than a Range Rover – an observation that's aligned with Hammond. In fact, the widebody Charger is wider by 120 millimeters (4.7 inches) wider than the Range Rover , which says a … [Read more...] about Watch James May Roast The Dodge Charger Hellcat
Listen to this article The Spaniard crashed at 115mph through the Farm Curve left-hander on Saturday afternoon in the FP4 session ahead of qualifying. Espargaro had to be stretchered off track before being taken to the medical centre for checks on his right foot. Despite suffering heavy bruising, Espargaro was able to take part in qualifying and heroically put his Aprilia sixth on the grid – but cancelled all media activities afterwards due to the pain in his foot “getting worse”. At present, his participation in Sunday’s race is uncertain. “The crash was the last thing we needed,” Espargaro said in a team statement. “I was feeling good on the bike, pushing hard, and the high side was rather violent. “I’m in a lot of pain and it is getting worse, so along with the team and the docs, we decided it would be best for me to rest until tomorrow and then evaluate the situation after the warm-up. “I’ll obviously do everything I can to be on the track but, since we’re … [Read more...] about Espargaro’s British GP uncertain after “violent” 115mph MotoGP crash
Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas has shed some light on his infamous “to whom it may concern” radio message after winning the 2018 Australian GP. Bottas crossed the line to win the season opener in Melbourne in 2019, with the Finn getting on the radio to say “to whom it may concern, f**k you”. Having responded to his critics in fine fashion after spending most of 2017 in the doldrums as teammate Lewis Hamilton romped to his fourth Drivers’ Championship, Bottas always remained coy about who the message was aimed at. Now with the benefit of a few years passing, Bottas was asked about the message again as the Finn revealed that he had been in a dark place over the winter break between the 2017 and ’18 seasons – so much so, that he felt he had lost the love of F1. “No, not someone particularly,” Bottas told the Motor Sport Magazine podcast as he was asked who the message was aimed at. “It was more like, because I got a lot of criticism throughout the last part of ’18 [like] … [Read more...] about Bottas reveals meaning of ‘to whom it may concern’ radio message
Toto Wolff has conceded that Mercedes are “a few months” behind Red Bull and Ferrari after their troubling start to the season. Having gone from World Champions to midfield battlers, Wolff has been looking back on one of the more difficult seasons of his career in F1. They have been one of the biggest disappointments of the season so far having failed to win a race in 2022. The team do appear to have turned a corner having solved their porpoising issues and finishing the last two races before the summer break P2 and P3. Winning either Championship looks off the table at this point but they are within a realistic chance of pipping Ferrari to P2 in the Constructors’. Wolff said it was Mercedes ‘ form on the Saturday that has been the most troubling. “The start of the season wasn’t really any good,” Wolff said. “And there is no other way of describing it. Because if you win the Championship in December then four months on, you’re not competing with the guys in the front. … [Read more...] about Mercedes ‘missing a few months’ in development race with Red Bull and Ferrari
