What is it? The second race of the 2019 Formula One season, the Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sakhir Circuit. The second of 21 rounds across the year, which began in Melbourne two weeks ago and ends in Abu Dhabi in December. It takes place at night under floodlights, too, which is nice. When is it and what time does it start? March 29-31. The first two practice sessions begin at 11am and 3pm GMT on Friday March 29. Qualifying gets going at 3pm on Saturday March 30 and the lights go out for the race at 4.10pm on Sunday March 31. What TV channel is it on? Once again this year all races are broadcast live on Sky Sports F1. Sky's practice coverage starts at XXX GMT on Friday morning whilst the qualifying program starts at XXX. Dan Ticktum backed up the strong pace he has shown thus far at the Macau Grand Prix with victory in the qualification race. The Briton was untroubled from lap two, although he did have to avoid a stray dog on the track. At the start, fellow front-rower start Callum Ilott slipstreamed his countryman into the Mandarin kink to take the lead – holding on despite an oversteery moment at Lisboa. Ticktum remained on his tail to pass the Ferrari Driver Academy member to cross the line already 1.3 seconds ahead. Further back BMW DTM driver Joel Eriksson passed Sacha Fenestraz for third, but got boxed in which allowed the Renault F1 junior to repass. On lap three, Ticktum encountered a dog on the track, having to go wide to avoid it with the safety car deployed to retrieve it. George Russell converted pole position to victory in an action-packed FIA Formula 2 feature race at the Red Bull Ring, claiming his fourth win in the series. The ART Grand Prix driver was able hold off championship rival and Carlin Motorsport driver Lando Norris, cutting his championship lead down to two points heading into the sprint race. Charouz Racing System‘s Antonio Fuoco captured the final podium spot on the last lap passing MP Motorsport‘s Roberto Merhi, who both drivers had an excellent drive through the field. DAMS‘ Alexander Albon claimed fifth place in the race ahead of Sérgio Sette Câmara and Tadasuke Makino. Artem Markelov claimed eighth place and reserve grid pole for the sprint race after an incredible drive in the final lap, passing three cars at one corner and passing Nirei Fukuzumi at the final corner to claim eighth.
