Jalopnik Reviews All of our test drives in one convenient place. A hairdresser’s car? A worthy alternative to the Porsche Boxster? The savior of BMW’s sports cars in a time when that market is declining? A Toyota Supra? The 2019 BMW Z4 M40i could be all of those—and maybe a bit more than people will give it credit for. (Full Disclosure: BMW needed me to drive the new 8 Series and Z4 so badly it flew me all the way to Portugal and paid for my food and booze.) It seems like we’ve been waiting forever for the replacement for the E89 Z4. Thanks to the much-hyped (over-hyped at this point, I’d argue) partnership with Toyota to co-develop the new Supra, the anticipation for the Z4 has been much higher than you’d normally expect. The folks here at Jalopnik have been dutifully reporting on the crazy rumors surrounding this new sports car since 2012, if you can believe it. (Remember when it was supposed to be a hybrid replacement for the LFA?) It’s … [Read more...] about The 2019 BMW Z4 Isn’t a Hardcore Sports Car, but Here’s Why That’s Okay

Revolution Racecars The RevolutionRadical is a top-tier producer of track-day specials. The British company was founded in 1997 and today sells a number of models for track enthusiasts and racers all over the world. One of the company's co-founders, Phill Abbott, is looking to make a new mark in the race car space. He plans to do so with his new company Revolution Racecars. Abbott is hard at work on a new car called The Revolution. The plan is build a two-seat track car heavily focused on going extremely fast. With technology apparently borrowed from prototype racing, that could very well prove to be the case, although we don't quite know what that "technology" is nor how it will be used. Still, with a suggested weight of just under 1,500 pounds, The Revolution will certainly be a screamer. A Ford-sourced 3.7-liter V-6 will make 300 horsepower and a six-speed sequential transmission will be tapped for shifting duty. The transmission will come from 3MO, which builds components for rally … [Read more...] about Radical co-founder working on new track-focused sports car
Happy July Fourth! I’m a proud American, and as a proud American, I believe America’s automotive history is rich and diverse and complex enough that we don’t have to always celebrate, or even sale-a-brate, the usual suspects: the Corvettes, Bel-Airs, Camaros, Avantis, whatever. That’s why this year I want to honor America’s smallest, and likely ugliest, car ever made: the Eshelman. Specifically, I want to focus on the Eshelman Adult Sports Car, a car named so not because it contained brief nudity and adult situations, but because Eshelman also built a nearly identical children’s car. Cheston Lee Eshelman was a very interesting guy, starting his engineering and inventing careers in the early 1940s, when he developed a strange, radical flying-wing airplane that looked sort of like a flying flapjack, called the Flying Flounder: Eshelman set up a company to produce light commercial aircraft, and later established a company in Baltimore to build garden … [Read more...] about Meet America’s Smallest, Ugliest Car: The Eshelman!

Don Sherman of Car and Driver is back talking about the near-future of the Chevrolet and what the next 18 months should bring. As the technical editor for C&D, the long-time 1967 Corvette owner has many friendships and sources inside GM and the Corvette team. That doesn’t mean Don is 100% up on what’s going on with both the launch of the 2018 Corvette ZR1 or the C8 mid-engine Corvette. No one is. But we like to think of Sherman’s articles on Corvettes like a modern-day EF Hutton commercial. When he speaks, we need to shut up and listen! Don recently posted about the future of the Corvette on Hagerty.com and he had some interesting takes after visiting the Bowling Green Assembly Plant and taking part of the public tours before they recently closed them down. Don was the guy who first put out there that the 2018 Corvette ZR1 will be introduced on August 6th at Road America during an IMSA race. He still believes that’s where the public will first see the … [Read more...] about Car and Driver’s Don Sherman Looks Into Crystal Ball for the Future of Corvette
