It emerged in Bahrain that teams running low-rake cars - such as Aston Martin and Mercedes - appeared to be hurt more by the updated aerodynamic rules for 2021 than those with high-rake concepts. The FIA moved to cut downforce and reduce speeds for 2021 on safety grounds, with much of this cut being achieved by changes to the regulations surrounding floor designs. Aston Martin team principal Otmar Szafnauer revealed on Friday at Imola that he was pushing the FIA to consider making tweaks this year "to make it a bit more equitable" between teams running high- and low-rake car concepts. "We had a sample of one, that Mercedes won that race with what we classify a low-rake car," Horner said on Sky Sports F1. … [Read more...] about Horner: Aston “a little naive” to expect F1 aero rule tweaks

Perez: Last-corner mistake cost me Imola F1 pole
Perez bounced back from a difficult Friday that saw him crash into Esteban Ocon in FP1 and struggle to feature with the frontrunners in FP2 by qualifying second at Imola. It marked Perez’s best-ever F1 qualifying result, beating his previous best starting position of third, as he fell just 0.035 seconds shy of pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton’s lap time. But Perez believed he did have the pace to snatch pole position away for Red Bull in the dying moments of qualifying after Hamilton failed to improve on his final lap. “I should have been on pole today," Perez said. “I did a mistake on my final corner, so I think it's everything positive. “We just have to make sure that we keep progressing, and tomorrow is what matters." Perez was satisfied with how he managed to recover from the incident on Friday with Ocon, and admitted he was surprised by the turnaround over the weekend. “I have to say well done to the team," Perez said. “Yesterday I made a mistake and I made … [Read more...] about Perez: Last-corner mistake cost me Imola F1 pole
Leclerc: “Difficult to believe” Ferrari so close to top teams
Ferrari managed to finish inside the top six with both of its cars in FP1 and FP2 for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, marking a decent step forward for Ferrari compared to its display in Bahrain, where it struggled to keep pace with midfield leader McLaren. Leclerc said the performance of the car was “great” through practice despite losing running to an issue in FP1 and a late crash in FP2, but felt the progress was track-specific. “It’s all track and temperature specific, because we haven’t changed the car at all,” Leclerc said. “But the car feels a lot better in those conditions. The car feels great this weekend, even if we compare to last year, it feels much better this weekend. The grip is good, the balance is good. And I have quite a bit of confidence in the car.” Read Also: Emilia Romagna GP: Best F1 2021 technical images from Imola Ferrari's Imola practice pace "not a shock" to Norris Ferrari and Williams join F1's Z-shaped floor gang Charles … [Read more...] about Leclerc: “Difficult to believe” Ferrari so close to top teams
