The 1.5-mile superspeedway has played host to North America's premier open-wheel championship every year since 1997, including two events per year from 1998-2004 that also featured season finales. A visit in June was traditionally held for the majority of the tenure, including when TMS was called upon to help jump-start the IndyCar season in 2020. In 2021, the date shifted to a double-header in May. Then, the target moved 20 March in 2022 before settling on April 2 earlier this season. Multiple Argentinian Super TC2000 champion Agustin Canapino will join the IndyCar grid this season with Juncos Hollinger Racing, the team have announced. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free The 32-year-old will join the team – jointly owned by Argentinian Ricardo Juncos – for the upcoming IndyCar championship. He will race alongside Callum Ilott in the number 78 car as the team expands to a two-car entry for 2023. He will compete in the full season, including oval races. Canapino is one of South America’s most successful touring car drivers, having been crowned champion of the Argentinian Super TC2000 series twice in 2016 and 2021 as well as multiple titles in lower categories in the nation. Newly announced IndyCar driver Tatiana Calderon says there are more opportunities available to female racing drivers in American racing series than elsewhere in the motorsport world. The 2024 IndyCar calendar has been announced, with a couple of changes for fans to expect from next season – including the return of a fan-favourite oval. The popular Milwaukee Mile returns to the calendar for two races in 2024, with the Indianapolis 500 set to take its usual late-May slot in its 108th running. The 17-race calendar will see plenty of up-and-coming talent face off against seasoned professionals at that level, as well as familiar faces from the world of Formula 1. Argentina has been under heavy consideration to host IndyCar’s first race outside of North America since Sao Paulo in 2013. Conversations and interest increased after Ricardo Juncos, the Argentine IndyCar team owner, pulled off demonstration runs last November at Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo in Santiago del Estero and Autodromo Oscar y Juan Galvez in Buenos Aires. As previously announced, that will relocate from Laguna Seca to Nashville’s street circuit, which is being remodelled for its fourth year as an IndyCar venue. With the number of points-paying races remaining unchanged, two events have been dropped as IndyCar returns to Milwaukee for the first time since 2015.
