Lancia still exists, and plans are in the works to expand the storied brand. We will glimpse that future on April 15 when a new concept car is revealed, but right now we're given a taste of what to expect through a new teaser photo looking down from above. There's certainly no missing the big white circle on the black roof. We don't know its purpose, but it helps define the overall circular shape of the roof, curving aggressively around the rear with a milder arc at the front. The teaser also reveals horizontal lines stretching from the sides to wrap around the rear window. Lancia states these are reminiscent of Lancia Beta HPE from the 1970s, and its Venetian-blind-inspired structure. F1: No Mercedes updates before Emilia-Romagna GP · RaceFans
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff says the time will not be bringing any significant upgrades to improve their W14 until the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola in late May. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free The team are fighting to catch up to rivals Red Bull after being out-performed by the champions over the opening two rounds. The Mercedes drivers were also beaten by Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin in the first two races. Having admitted Mercedes will likely have to abandon the fundamental design concept of its W14 car which inherited the concept of its predecessor from last year, Wolff has previously accepted that Mercedes’ scope for extracting significantly more performance from its 2023 car in its current guise remains limited. While the team will work on upgrades for the W14 this season, Wolff admits there will be no performance-focused upgrades on their car until Imola. “The next three races, we won’t be adding any performance,” he told Sky after … [Read more...] about F1: No Mercedes updates before Emilia-Romagna GP · RaceFans

Seven of the 10 Formula 1 teams have brought updates to their cars for this weekend’s race. However as they are far away from their European bases, and racing on a temporary circuit where the risk of damage is high, most of the revisions are on the modest side. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Red Bull have brought a mildly revised front wing which is intended to increase downforce, which the team identified as a requirement for upcoming races. They have also made a revision to the floor bodywork around the rear wheels to improve cooling around the inlets for the brake ducts. Their three closest rivals have lagged far behind in terms of performance so far this year, and none of brought alterations on the scale needed to cut that deficit. Indeed, Ferrari and Aston Martin’s cars are unchanged, and Mercedes have introduced a single revision to the underside of their floor. The addition of vanes is intended to improve airflow to the diffuser further … [Read more...] about Pictures: 2023 Australian Grand Prix F1 car updates · RaceFans
No sign yet F1 cars have got worse at racing closely in 2023 – Symonds · RaceFans
Formula 1 cars have not become worse at following each other closely this year, the series’ technical director Pat Symonds believes. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Some drivers have suggested overtaking has become more difficult in the second season since F1 introduced heavily revised regulations designed to aid passing. However Symonds told the official F1 channel that their analysis indicates this is not the case. “I’m not sure,” he said. “Our statistics of how close the cars are following don’t appear to have changed much. “We’ve only had two samples so far so it’s a little bit difficult to tell. But it’s certainly something that we and the FIA will keep monitoring and we’ll have a look.” The 2022 technical regulations cut back the upper surface aerodynamics of the cars and allowed teams to make greater use of ground effect to generate downforce and produce fast lap times. Key areas of the car’s design have been tightly restricted to condition the … [Read more...] about No sign yet F1 cars have got worse at racing closely in 2023 – Symonds · RaceFans
Norris backs tough F1 choices McLaren had to make
Listen to this article A review conducted by team principal Andrea Stella at the request of CEO Zak Brown has led to the departure of erstwhile McLaren technical director James Key. The team is introducing a new structure headed by three technical directors, namely Peter Prodromou (aerodynamics), Davide Sanchez (car concept and performance), and Neil Houldey (engineering and design). Norris says he has complete faith in Stella and Brown, and backs any decisions they make, noting that changes were necessary as the team tries to work its way up the grid. “I guess as the driver, and the person that's driving the thing affected by all of this is, I have just got to have the confidence and faith in the people who are running it,” said Norris when asked by Motorsport.com about the changes. “Which is Zak and Andrea, and I still have a lot of faith and belief in them. I guess Andrea is new to this, new to the role that he's in, but from the little time he's been there, … [Read more...] about Norris backs tough F1 choices McLaren had to make
