Up until this point, there’s been no small amount of buzz about the designs, which both hearken back to the 1980s heyday of the previous version of the automaker and feel well-suited for the car market in 2022. ‘Beast’: Idris Elba Battles the ‘Cujo’ of Lions
Click here to read the full article. “It’s the law of the jungle,” one character says fairly early on in Beast — “early” as in after we’ve established that a lion decides to become a four-legged vigilante once some poachers slaughter his pride, but before this one-cat army sets his sights on our hero and his family. The way the man inhales and pauses before he delivers the next line suggests he’s about to drop some serious science: “The only law that matters here.” Ah. Ok! To be fair, there are other laws that also apply to this survivalist thriller. Like, for example, the Law of the Multiplex, which says that a movie primarily centered around a notable performer and a 10-words-or-less elevator pitch has to either a) rest steadily enough on that actor’s shoulders to carry it past pitfalls and weak spots, or b) revolve around such a too-big-to-fail, high-concept idea that it could level up anybody to A-list status. And the Law of the Reliable B-Movie Director, which declares … [Read more...] about ‘Beast’: Idris Elba Battles the ‘Cujo’ of Lions
‘House of the Dragon’ is ‘Game of Thrones’ with more wigs, less grandeur
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 6 "Game of Thrones" trumpeted its continental scope at the start of every episode with its roving opening credits. Ever-stirring no matter how uninspired or unsatisfying the medieval fantasy drama could get, they swept across a mechanical miniature of the Seven Kingdoms and the lands beyond, evincing the loose federation's tenuousness and grandeur, as well as the ingenuity and care required to keep the realm from entropy and collapse. Three years after that series's (widely derided) finale, Westeros, the Europe-like landmass on which the Seven Kingdoms sit, returns in a reduced new form. Created by book author George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, "House of the Dragon" (premiering Sunday) is set 200 years before the original show, and comparatively diminutive in scale. Based on parts of Martin's "Fire & Blood" novel, the initially rocky prequel series dives into the … [Read more...] about ‘House of the Dragon’ is ‘Game of Thrones’ with more wigs, less grandeur
Behind every Trader Joe’s sign is a working artist who painted it
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 Growing up, Zoe Terrell dreamed of becoming an artist - she sketched scenes from her local farmers market and even won drawing competitions in her native South Korea. But she eventually learned what many creative people know too well. "My dad was like, 'Well, drawing is not going to feed you,' " Terrell says. So she studied education in college and, after moving to the United States in 2008, taught Korean - that is, until a curious job listing caught her eye. An ocean away, Terrell called her dad with surprising news: "Hey, guess what, Dad? Now, drawing is going to feed me," she recalls with a laugh. Terrell is one of hundreds of sign artists employed by grocery store Trader Joe's. You probably know the idiosyncratic chain for its eccentric snacks and peppy cashiers, but that festive atmosphere extends to the stores' interior design, too: Each of the 500-plus outposts has custom, … [Read more...] about Behind every Trader Joe’s sign is a working artist who painted it

Optimistic pace note caused Rovanpera’s Ypres Rally retirement
Listen to this article The World Rally Championship leader retired from Friday's action in spectacular fashion when he misjudged a fast left-hander while leading the rally during Stage 2. Rovanpera ran wide, resulting in his GR Yaris hitting a ditch which pitched the car into a series of frightening rolls, before landing on its wheels. Rovanpera and co-driver Jonne Halttunen emerged from the wreckage unscathed. The pair were agitated before the start of the stage, which was delayed due to communication problem between rally headquarters and the stage commander that had to be resolved before they could enter the test. While Rovanpera was clearly upset by the timing issue, he described as a "big mess", the Finn said the problem didn't affect his concentration, with a pace note error the cause for the crash. "There was a few corners and the second one of them I just had a bit of an optimistic pace note," said Rovanpera, who had won the day's opening asphalt stage to lead … [Read more...] about Optimistic pace note caused Rovanpera’s Ypres Rally retirement

Nigel Mansell feels Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is ‘taking it easy this year’
1992 F1 champ Nigel Mansell sees an opportunity for George Russell, as Lewis Hamilton has not “dusted off his right foot yet”. Following the controversial conclusion to the 2021 season, which saw Hamilton miss out on a record eighth World Championship on the last lap of the Abu Dhabi season finale, the Brit went into 2022 as a favourite to get that eighth title in the bag. However, that possibility already looks to be off the table by the summer break, Mercedes having fallen adrift of Red Bull at the start of Formula 1’s new regulatory era, with Ferrari assuming the role of main challenger to Red Bull. Hamilton also has a new team-mate for this season in the shape of Russell, who claimed his first career pole last time out in Hungary, also Mercedes’ first pole of the season.
