Maruti Suzuki is planning a Hyundai Creta rival for the Indian car market. The automaker is busy testing the Suzuki Vitara compact SUV that will eventually be launched here as a Creta challenger. The Vitara has been caught testing on Indian roads yet again. The SUV measures longer than the Vitara Brezza and offers much more space and performance. The test mule spotted was a diesel engined version. The Vitara sold in Europe gets a 1.6 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engine – the same unit that was used on the S-Cross 1.6. This engine is known for its tremendous torque – 320 Nm of it. Peak power is rated at 118 Bhp. These outputs will make the torque king in its segment, where the Creta currently rules with 265 Nm of peak torque available on its 1.6 diesel variants. Volkswagen India has rolled out an ambitious new plan for the Indian market called India 2.0, which will see the German car giant putting in about 1 billion Euros or Rs. 8,000 crores in its Indian operation. These funds will be used to develop a range of new products, the first of which will be a compact SUV. It’s now confirmed that Volkswagen will build a Hyundai Creta rival for the Indian market under the MQB A0 platform. A direct rival to the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has been ruled out. Volkswagen doesn’t want to dilute the brand by too much and wants to retain its premium positioning in the Indian market. Nissan was supposed to launch the Kicks compact SUV in India this year as a rival to the Hyundai Creta. However, the compact SUV will now be delayed to at least 2019. The reason for the delay is that Nissan is working on a higher amount of localization for the new vehicle. This will allow it to price the vehicle very competitively and make it a success in the Indian car market. So, until the Kicks comes to the Indian market, the only SUV that the automaker will have is the Terrano, which is a badge-engineered version of the Duster. The Kicks shares its platform with the Duster and Captur. The Kicks has already been revealed at Motor Shows around the world. Most specifications of the vehicle are already known. New reports have emerged stating that Hyundai India has brought forward the launch of the Hyundai Creta facelift to May 2018, from the earlier announced August 2018. The lower spec versions of the new car are expected to be priced similar to the outgoing model but the higher variants may see a price hike of Rs. 80,000, presumably due to the addition of a sunroof. The facelifted car will feature many subtle changes over the present model and is thought to closely resemble the Brazilian-spec Creta Sport in its looks. The new Creta will get a larger chrome trimmed hexagonal front grille.The front bumper now has new fog lamp housing and a pronounced chin which merges into the front grille. The rear bumpers have also been redesigned while the taillamps will also receive a subtle tweak. New 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels will replace the existing design.
