Team Penske-Chevrolet driver Newgarden lost control on the exit of Turn 4, touched the grass and spun in front of the pack on the opening lap and was subsequently hit by the Andretti Autosport-Hondas of Herta and then Hunter-Reay. Arrow McLaren SP-Chevy driver Felix Rosenqvist also flew into the air after further contact with Max Chilton as the field scattered. “I just got loose coming over the hill,” Newgarden told NBC. “I had a good start, we were lining in pretty nicely, but I just got loose in the wake. I felt I had [control of] the car, and touched the grass, and once I touched the grass it pitched me sideways. “I feel really bad for everyone involved. My mess created a bigger mess behind, so I’m really sorry as it was obviously us who tipped it off. It was a shame, I felt like we had a really good car. We just have to bounce back at the next one.” Read Also: Barber IndyCar: Palou holds off Power, Dixon for first win Herta, who like Rosenqvist later … [Read more...] about Newgarden apologizes for opening lap chaos at Barber

Brown open to idea of third full-time Arrow McLaren SP entry
This year, the team has taken on Felix Rosenqvist to partner incumbent ace Pato O’Ward full-time, and will run a third car in the Indianapolis 500 for two-time winner Juan Pablo Montoya. Brown says that this is the sort of template he and team co-owners Sam Schmidt and Ric Peterson intend to follow whenever the team decides to go to three full-time cars. Schmidt has been seeking such an opportunity for two years “but only if it adds value.” This year Andretti Autosport, Chip Ganassi Racing and Team Penske each have four cars contending in the 17-race season. Asked directly if adding more full-time entries was still in the long-term plans, Brown replied: “Third driver yes, fourth driver… I’m not so sure. I think three is better than two. “It’s got to be a driver of Pato’s and Felix’s caliber. We will not do a rent-a-ride scenario. If you look at Roger [Penske] – that’s probably the best way to do it, three drivers and a fourth at Indy and they’re all championship caliber. … [Read more...] about Brown open to idea of third full-time Arrow McLaren SP entry
Autopilot Vs Super Cruise Vs BlueCruise: How Do They Compare?
The Level 2 autonomous systems from Ford, GM, and Tesla aren't created equal. The global automotive scene is in the midst of a paradigm shift. Electric motors are replacing internal combustion power, and advanced technology is literally taking control of automobiles. We are witnessing the birth of autonomous mainstream transportation, but it's not quite ready for prime time both in terms of development and regulation. However, some systems with limited self-drive capability are available for consumers to buy right now. Ford is the latest automaker to step into this realm with its BlueCruise system , promising self-drive features similar to its crosstown rival, General Motors . Meanwhile, both Detroit brands are competing with Tesla , the company that wowed the world with its Autopilot system back in 2014. Everyone else has been playing catch-up since then, which begs the obvious question. Have Ford and GM caught up? The Race To Full Autonomy: ⠀ Honda … [Read more...] about Autopilot Vs Super Cruise Vs BlueCruise: How Do They Compare?
Volkswagen ID.4 Wins World Car Of The Year Award
Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, and Land Rover also take home awards. In 2005, the Audi A6 won the very first World Car of the Year award. Since then, the annual awards ceremony has expanded to encompass five categories, including performance, design, luxury, urban, and of course the overall winner. For 2021, the new Volkswagen ID.4 was crowned as the new World Car of the Year. When looking at the list of three finalists for the award, one might say the VeeDub was really the only logical choice. Its competition for 2021 came from the Honda e electric city car and the latest Toyota Yaris , neither of which are available in the US market. The ID.4 is making its way to dealerships around the world, and our own seat time behind the wheel found a crossover that is spacious, comfortable, competent, and while the single-motor variant with just 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts) isn't particularly inspiring, its 250-mile range in a sizable people mover is a plus. Vettel: FIA “not very professional” in dealing with Imola penalty
The Aston Martin driver was hit with a 10-second penalty after his team failed to fit the wheels on his car before the five-minute signal ahead of the start of the race. However, the penalty was only announced after lap 22 of the race, and the delay compromised Vettel's chances at the time. Although Vettel went on to retire from the Imola race on the penultimate lap, the four-time champion was still frustrated by the FIA's speed in announcing the penalty. "Obviously the guys tried everything on the grid and I think they did really well, they were really alert," said Vettel of his pre-race problems. "I think we could have had a better race if the FIA was more alert because I think we broke a rule, I guess, that is why we got a penalty, but they didn't bother until way into the race, so by that time the penalty cost us a lot more than it would have done earlier in the race. "That is not very professional." Read Also: Emilia Romagna Grand Prix Driver Ratings … [Read more...] about Vettel: FIA “not very professional” in dealing with Imola penalty
