Lancia still exists, and plans are in the works to expand the storied brand. We will glimpse that future on April 15 when a new concept car is revealed, but right now we're given a taste of what to expect through a new teaser photo looking down from above. There's certainly no missing the big white circle on the black roof. We don't know its purpose, but it helps define the overall circular shape of the roof, curving aggressively around the rear with a milder arc at the front. The teaser also reveals horizontal lines stretching from the sides to wrap around the rear window. Lancia states these are reminiscent of Lancia Beta HPE from the 1970s, and its Venetian-blind-inspired structure. Mourners gather for 1st Nashville school shooting funeral
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 15 NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Family and friends of Evelyn Dieckhaus, one of three children who were killed in a school shooting in Nashville this week, remembered her Friday as a “shining light” and said farewell to a girl who loved art, music, animals and snuggling with her older sister on the couch. The funeral at the Woodmont Christian Church in Nashville’s Green Hills neighborhood was closed to the media. Before the service, the church's senior minister, the Rev. Clay Stauffer, echoed what Evelyn's family has shared about her. “She was a shining light. She was radiant,” Stauffer told The Associated Press. “I think our challenge is to take her light and keep spreading it to a world that has so much darkness and pain.” Evelyn's was the first funeral held for the victims of Monday's mass shooting at The Covenant … [Read more...] about Mourners gather for 1st Nashville school shooting funeral
Jeep Mashed Up a Retro Cherokee With Their Hybrid Wrangler
April 1 is a big day for disappointment as all your favorite brands are bound to release some lame April Fools’ Day gag. Well, unless your favorite brand happens to be Jeep. Then April 1 is on par with Christmas Day, as the automaker is heading to Moab, Utah for the 57th annual Easter Jeep Safari, a nine-day off-roading event in the desert where they’ll debut a number of concept vehicles showing the customization potential of their current and former lineup, and previewing the future of their highly-capable SUVs. The big news out of the Easter Jeep Safari in recent years has been their Magneto model , an all-electric Wrangler with a stick shift ( really ). That continues for 2023, with the Magneto 3.0 offering another look at what a future Wrangler EV could look like (though we still have no real clues as to when that will happen). But of the seven one-off concepts Jeep and their partner in crime, Jeep Performance Parts by Mopar, dreamt up, the one that we’d gladly open up our … [Read more...] about Jeep Mashed Up a Retro Cherokee With Their Hybrid Wrangler
F1: No Mercedes updates before Emilia-Romagna GP · RaceFans
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff says the time will not be bringing any significant upgrades to improve their W14 until the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola in late May. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free The team are fighting to catch up to rivals Red Bull after being out-performed by the champions over the opening two rounds. The Mercedes drivers were also beaten by Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin in the first two races. Having admitted Mercedes will likely have to abandon the fundamental design concept of its W14 car which inherited the concept of its predecessor from last year, Wolff has previously accepted that Mercedes’ scope for extracting significantly more performance from its 2023 car in its current guise remains limited. While the team will work on upgrades for the W14 this season, Wolff admits there will be no performance-focused upgrades on their car until Imola. “The next three races, we won’t be adding any performance,” he told Sky after … [Read more...] about F1: No Mercedes updates before Emilia-Romagna GP · RaceFans
How Houston Astros rookie Corey Julks performed in his MLB debut
It's understandable if baseball fans in Houston felt a little extra excitement about the latest Astros rookie to make his MLB debut. Corey Julks —who starred at the University of Houston and Clear Brook High School before being selected by the Astros in the eighth round of the 2017 draft—made his first career MLB appearance on Friday night against the Chicago White Sox. It didn't take long for Julks to make an impact while starting at designated hitter, and most importantly, the Astros emerged from the game victorious. Batting in the No. 6 spot, Julks ripped a line-drive single in the bottom of the second off White Sox starter Lance Lynn, picking up his first MLB hit in his first career at-bat. This set up a potential scoring opportunity for Houston, moving José Abreu over to second base, and David Hensley walked to load the bases in the ensuing at-bat. Unfortunately for the Astros, they squandered the opportunity with back-to-back outs to end the inning. Julks was the … [Read more...] about How Houston Astros rookie Corey Julks performed in his MLB debut
No sign yet F1 cars have got worse at racing closely in 2023 – Symonds · RaceFans
Formula 1 cars have not become worse at following each other closely this year, the series’ technical director Pat Symonds believes. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Some drivers have suggested overtaking has become more difficult in the second season since F1 introduced heavily revised regulations designed to aid passing. However Symonds told the official F1 channel that their analysis indicates this is not the case. “I’m not sure,” he said. “Our statistics of how close the cars are following don’t appear to have changed much. “We’ve only had two samples so far so it’s a little bit difficult to tell. But it’s certainly something that we and the FIA will keep monitoring and we’ll have a look.” The 2022 technical regulations cut back the upper surface aerodynamics of the cars and allowed teams to make greater use of ground effect to generate downforce and produce fast lap times. Key areas of the car’s design have been tightly restricted to condition the … [Read more...] about No sign yet F1 cars have got worse at racing closely in 2023 – Symonds · RaceFans
Pictures: 2023 Australian Grand Prix F1 car updates · RaceFans
Seven of the 10 Formula 1 teams have brought updates to their cars for this weekend’s race. However as they are far away from their European bases, and racing on a temporary circuit where the risk of damage is high, most of the revisions are on the modest side. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Red Bull have brought a mildly revised front wing which is intended to increase downforce, which the team identified as a requirement for upcoming races. They have also made a revision to the floor bodywork around the rear wheels to improve cooling around the inlets for the brake ducts. Their three closest rivals have lagged far behind in terms of performance so far this year, and none of brought alterations on the scale needed to cut that deficit. Indeed, Ferrari and Aston Martin’s cars are unchanged, and Mercedes have introduced a single revision to the underside of their floor. The addition of vanes is intended to improve airflow to the diffuser further … [Read more...] about Pictures: 2023 Australian Grand Prix F1 car updates · RaceFans
Norris backs tough F1 choices McLaren had to make
Listen to this article A review conducted by team principal Andrea Stella at the request of CEO Zak Brown has led to the departure of erstwhile McLaren technical director James Key. The team is introducing a new structure headed by three technical directors, namely Peter Prodromou (aerodynamics), Davide Sanchez (car concept and performance), and Neil Houldey (engineering and design). Norris says he has complete faith in Stella and Brown, and backs any decisions they make, noting that changes were necessary as the team tries to work its way up the grid. “I guess as the driver, and the person that's driving the thing affected by all of this is, I have just got to have the confidence and faith in the people who are running it,” said Norris when asked by Motorsport.com about the changes. “Which is Zak and Andrea, and I still have a lot of faith and belief in them. I guess Andrea is new to this, new to the role that he's in, but from the little time he's been there, … [Read more...] about Norris backs tough F1 choices McLaren had to make
Daughter of ex-U.S. intelligence director sentenced to 35 years for murder
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 The dog barked at 3:25 a.m. Zeba Rasmussen ran down her stairs and saw three men, including the police, through the window pane. "Is this the home of Yousuf Rasmussen?" one of them asked. That moment started three years of heartbreak and horror for the Maryland physician, her family and the many friends of her 24-year-old son - a new life that played out in private even as the way he was killed in 2020 played out in public. He had been stabbed in the neck, police charged, by Sophia Negroponte, the daughter of former U.S. director of national intelligence John Negroponte. The prosecution against her ended Friday, when Montgomery County Circuit Judge Terrence McGann sentenced Sophia Negroponte to 35 years prison for second-degree murder during a two-hour hearing that, for the first time in the case, shined more attention on the victim than the defendant. McGann himself, who had … [Read more...] about Daughter of ex-U.S. intelligence director sentenced to 35 years for murder
