Hamilton has ‘intriguing’ driver traits – but Russell won’t copy
George Russell has said he will not copy Lewis Hamilton’s traits as he seeks to have his own success in the sport. Being team-mates with one of only two drivers to have won seven World Championships comes with the added benefit of being able to learn from one of the best to ever compete in the sport – but Russell is eager not to copy Hamilton too closely. He has started this season in excellent form and perhaps better than even he had expected as he has finished higher than Hamilton in all but two races this season. Speaking on the Beyond the Grid podcast, Russell highlighted the example of tennis as proof that there is not just one set method for success. He said: “There are some traits that he [Hamilton] definitely carries that are really intriguing for me and I’m not going to share those now because I’m the only driver on this grid who has the luxury of being team-mates with the greatest driver of all time. “Prior to this season I was thinking about tennis and … [Read more...] about Hamilton has ‘intriguing’ driver traits – but Russell won’t copy
Vaccination: Why It’s Important for Your Children and Community
(BPT) - The drop in pediatric vaccination rates in the first six months of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic placed certain populations at a greater risk for vaccine-preventable infectious diseases and potential outbreaks. “Vaccines are a great public health success story,” shared pediatric vaccine expert Michelle Goveia, MD, MPH, and Global Medical and Scientific Affairs Director at Merck. “But vaccines only work when people get vaccinated.” Though measles was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000, cases of measles have been on the rise in recent years, in which 2019 saw the highest number of reported cases since 1992. When the COVID-19 pandemic caused initial stay-at-home orders in March-May 2020 and families were hesitant to go to the doctor’s office for fear of being exposed to coronavirus, pediatric vaccination rates dropped. These rates were substantially lower compared with the same period in 2018 and 2019. Among the vaccination rates that saw a decline since … [Read more...] about Vaccination: Why It’s Important for Your Children and Community
Anti-transgender activist Kelly Neidert’s group is expanding into Houston, she says
On a sweltering afternoon in Dallas, Kelly Neidert stood alone on a busy corner near the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She waved a handwritten sign reading "Dr. Lopez is transitioning little kids" as drivers passed, her eyes shielded from the summer sun by colorful 80s-style shades. Neidert's sign took aim at Dr. Ximena Lopez’s work as the leader of UT Southwestern’s Genecis Clinic, which focuses on gender-affirming medical care, offering mental health services and hormone treatments for transgender youth. The clinic won praise from UT Southwestern when it opened in 2015 and Lopez participated in a host of interviews to discuss her team’s work with trans youth . However, in recent years, UT Southwestern began to shift away from publicly lauding the clinic and eventually moved to shut it down last November, suggesting “Media attention and political and scientific controversy, as well as UT Southwestern’s status as a state agency, were considered in the months … [Read more...] about Anti-transgender activist Kelly Neidert’s group is expanding into Houston, she says
Mahindra Scorpio-N Review — The Scorpio Becomes A Game-Changer, Once Again
Home Car reviews oi-Stephen Gershom By Stephen Gershom Published: Thursday, June 30, 2022, 10:00 [IST] Not so long ago, Mahindra was a manufacturer of basic and rugged vehicles that boasted the capability to go anywhere in any condition while discounting a luxurious cabin altogether. Now though, things have changed. The latest SUVs made by Mahindra boast almost the same levels of ruggedness while having a cabin that is thousand times more luxurious. This sea change started with the launch of the first-gen Mahindra Scorpio back in 2002. Yes, it was exactly two decades ago, that the Scorpio turned things around for Mahindra. Back then, the Scorpio was an SUV that boasted an interior that one never thought would be seen on a Mahindra, and yet it boasted the go-anywhere capability and an engine that would last a million kilometres. The Scorpio brand grew over the years, with newer iterations coming into the picture. The … [Read more...] about Mahindra Scorpio-N Review — The Scorpio Becomes A Game-Changer, Once Again

(AP) — The jury that will decide whether Nikolas Cruz should get the death penalty for killing 17 people in the 2018 shooting rampage at a Parkland, Florida, high school was finally selected Wednesday, after a painstaking, stop-and-start process that took nearly three months. The defense wound up using all 10 of its peremptory challenges, eliminating candidates for any reason other than race or gender, while the prosecution used four. On Wednesday, the defense used its final strikes to eliminate a retired insurance company executive and a banking executive who had been tentatively on the panel when court adjourned Tuesday. Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer shot down the defense’s attempt to use a peremptory to eliminate a Black man who said during jury selection he did not believe in the existence of “white privilege” — the argument … [Read more...] about Florida jury sworn in to determine school shooter’s penalty
5 drawbacks to following your passion
(The Conversation is an independent and nonprofit source of news, analysis and commentary from academic experts.) Erin A. Cech, University of Michigan (THE CONVERSATION) After earning bachelor’s degrees in engineering and sociology, I was determined to do what I love. I headed straight to graduate school to investigate the social problems that frightened and fascinated me. For almost a decade, I told everyone I encountered – students, cousins, baristas at the coffee shop I frequented – that they should do the same. “Follow your passion,” I counseled. “You can figure out the employment stuff later.” It wasn’t until I began to research this widely accepted career advice that I understood how problematic – and rooted in privilege – it really was. The passion principle As a sociologist who examines workforce culture and inequalities, I interviewed college students and professional workers to learn what it really meant to pursue their dreams, which I will refer to here as the … [Read more...] about 5 drawbacks to following your passion

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 21 CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois Republicans on Tuesday chose conservative state Sen. Darren Bailey to take on Gov. J.B. Pritzker, a billionaire who easily won the Democratic nomination and who spent millions trying to get the rival he wants and increase his already sizable advantage in the state this fall. Bailey, who defeated five other Republicans to win the nomination, is a farmer and staunch abortion opponent who received former President Donald Trump’s endorsement Saturday. Pritzker immediately framed the race as a referendum on the former president, who Illinois voters twice rejected by double digits. Taking the stage at his victory party, Pritzker told the crowd, “I'm going to beat Donald Trump's candidate for governor, Darren Bailey.” “Let me be clear, someone who seeks out … [Read more...] about Illinois Republicans pick Bailey to face Gov.
