Le Mans invites awarded as G-Drive wins Asian Le Mans title
The #26 G-Drive Aurus-branded Oreca crew of Ferdinand Habsburg, Rene Binder and Yifei Ye won the opening two races of the series in Dubai last weekend to put themselves 18 points clear of the rest of the field. And while JOTA duo Sean Gelael and Tom Blomqvist did their best to deny their G-Drive rivals the title with a double win in Abu Dhabi, a second and fourth place was enough for Habsburg, Binder and Ye to capture the crown by four points. Race 1 The Oreca of Blomqvist and Gelael was sent to the back of the LMP2 grid in Race 1 after the British driver failed to complete any laps in either practice or qualifying - a result of the team prioritising Gelael after Blomqvist crashed the car in pre-event testing. But Blomqvist, who replaced Stoffel Vandoorne alongside Gelael for Abu Dhabi and hence had very limited running in the car, was immediately on the move when the race began, working his way up to second before handing over the car to his Indonesian teammate. … [Read more...] about Le Mans invites awarded as G-Drive wins Asian Le Mans title
Petit Le Mans: WTR wins after leaders clash in final stint
Prototype Alexander Rossi in the Acura ARX-05 snatched the lead from Felipe Nasr’s Action Express Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R with 1hr42min to go but Nasr held on, hung tough, repassed for a split second at Turn 10B and went slightly long, allowing Rossi back ahead. Meanwhile when Dixon handed over the Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac to Ryan Briscoe, the full-timer dropped it at Turn 10 which dropped him 25sec behind the lead battle. With 74mins to go, Nasr pitted to hand over to Derani, while Rossi stopped one lap later and left the wheel for Taylor. The pair emerged just 1.2sec apart, and Derani used his warmer tires to make the outside pass at Turn 10A and made it stick. However, these two remained within a second, regularly jockeying for position, especially in the Turn 10 brake zone, the Cadillac appearing stronger through the curves, and the Acura stronger in a straight line. Meanwhile, van der Zande was chipping away at the pair of them… Taylor followed Derani into … [Read more...] about Petit Le Mans: WTR wins after leaders clash in final stint

In 1973, he became the publication’s full time F1 correspondent, and in 1978, he was appointed editor. Later he became the Grand Prix editor of Autocar , as well as correspondent for The Guardian . In addition to day-to-day reporting duties he also became a prolific author, and was for many years the editor of the Autocourse annual. Tough LMP2 debut for Vandoorne as G-Drive dominates
Vandoorne and former F2 driver Sean Gelael contested the first half of the season with stalwart LMP2 team JOTA as a duo in preparation for their move to the FIA World Endurance Championship this season with Tom Blomqvist. Gelael took the start in the British squad's #28 Oreca in the first race of the weekend on Saturday and made a lunge going into Turn 1, only to run wide and settle for second behind the Phoenix Racing car driven by Simon Trummer. But the real drama occurred 20 minutes later when Gelael clipped the rear of Trummer’s Oreca in traffic while trying to make a pass for the lead, sending both cars into a spin. The Indonesian driver was forced to peel straight into the pits for repairs and was later handed a drive-through penalty for the incident, slipping further down the order. Over the remainder of the race, he and Vandoorne were able to claw their way up the field and were back up to second place, chasing G-Drive’s #26 Aurus-branded Oreca for the lead. … [Read more...] about Tough LMP2 debut for Vandoorne as G-Drive dominates
