The Peugeot 3008 has finally been launched in Malaysia, a few days after local distributor Nasim put up a registration of interest page. As revealed earlier, the fully imported SUV is available in two flavours – Active THP and the range-topping Allure THP. Under the hood, both variants are powered by the same 1.6 litre THP 165 S&S petrol engine, which serves up 165 hp (167 PS) and 240 Nm of torque. The turbocharged powerplant is paired with an Aisin-sourced six-speed automatic transmission, and drive goes to the front wheels. Top speed here is quoted at 206 km/h, with a 0-100 km/h time of 8.9 seconds. The 2017 European Car of the Year is claimed to offer a fuel efficiency of seven litres per 100 km following the combined cycle. Drivers will have access to Peugeot’s Advanced Grip Control, which offers five driving modes – Mud, Snow, Sand, ESP Off and Standard – to choose from. Interaction with the system is achieved via a rotary dial located near the hill … [Read more...] about 2017 Peugeot 3008 launched in Malaysia – 1.6L turbo engine, two variants available, priced from RM143k

Click to enlarge Peugeot has released information on the range topping 308 GTi, which sits above the GT in the 308 range. To earn that status, it naturally comes with more power and torque than the 175 bhp/240 Nm GT, which is sold here in Malaysia at RM160K. The GTi gets the 200 THP engine that also goes into the RCZ 2+2 Coupe. It’s a 1.6-engine with twin-scroll turbo and direct injection that makes 200 bhp and 275 Nm of torque from 1,700 to 4,500 rpm. Like the GT, the GTi comes with a six-speed manual ‘box, enabling it to do the benchmark 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.7 seconds, which is fast, but not as fast as the similarly badged VW Golf. What’s really impressive is the fuel consumption, which is rated at 14.5 km/l in the combined cycle. The 200 THP engine is built with Sound System technology, which delivers different harmonics according to vehicle acceleration. This is from a vibrating membrane controlled and amplified by an acoustic duct – quiet when … [Read more...] about Peugeot introduces 308 GTi with 200 THP engine
Peugeot has just announced the launch pricing for the new Peugeot RCZ 2+2 coupe. If you want a French take on a TT-like car, you’ll be expected to shell out about £19,900 for a ‘base’ model with the 156hp 1.6 turbo engine and a manual transmission. Now this is actually quite interesting as the 308 GT THP 175 goes for £20995. So I think it’s quite possible to have a low spec RCZ here in Malaysia for well under RM200k. But with the RCZ being a premium model it’s very likely for Nasim to position their RCZ offering higher up the model range instead. Upgrading to a “Level 2” trim level car with the 200 horsepower manual brings the price up to £24,500, or a 156hp auto will go for £23,300. That would mean a potential price difference of perhaps RM20k when converted to Malaysian ringgit, BEFORE taxes! The “Level 1” base trim level includes 18” alloy wheels, sports front seats, dual zone air-conditioning, folding … [Read more...] about Peugeot RCZ UK prices announced!
Click to enlarge The most powerful variant of the Peugeot 308 will be unveiled at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show next month, and it will be based on the 3-door Peugeot 308 body style. The Peugeot 308 GT THP 175 is powered by a 1.6 litre turbocharged engine, the same one found in BMW’s MINI Cooper S. While its lesser 5-door 308 GT THP 150 sibling can be mated to a 4 speed auto, and the same engine in the Cooper S has a ZF 6-speed auto, the Peugeot 308 GT THP 175 is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission. This will be the second Peugeot with the 1.6 turbo in a 175 horses state of tune, with the first being the 207 GTi THP 175. You can say that the new GT THP 175 is the spiritual successor to the 177 PS 2.0 litre Peugeot 307 Féline 180. The new car is only 0.1 seconds slower to 100km/h at 8.3 seconds, but goes on to a higher top speed of 225km/h compared to the 307 180’s 220km/h. It is also more fuel economical at 37.1 mpg combined, compared to the … [Read more...] about Peugeot 308 GT THP 175: latest French hot hatch
This solitary image is making the rounds in cyberspace, allegedly of the 2015 Peugeot 508. According to CarNewsChina, the new D-segment sedan will be based on PSA’s modular EMP2 platform, which already underpins the new 308, 408, C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso. The Chinese publication also reports that the 2015 Peugeot 508 could receive its global debut in the fourth quarter this year, before showing up at Auto Shanghai in almost exactly a year from now. Production should take place in China (under Dongfeng-PSA) and France. You’ll recognise Peugeot’s current corporate face – the rather conservatively-shaped chrome grille with ‘PEUGEOT’ lettering, and headlamps with ‘incisions’ at the bottom; these you’ve seen even on the 208, 2008, 3008 facelift and 5008 facelift. But of the new ’08’ crop of Pugs (current 508 aside), only the 408 and the vehicle pictured above place their Lion badges within the … [Read more...] about New Peugeot 508 leaked, sitting on EMP2 platform?
Local brand handlers Nasim has done a brilliant job at providing us with very well specced and very well priced Peugeots that don’t require car buyers to fork out extra for a European alternative, something Malaysians have been forced to accept for so long. The 206 Bestari started the ball rolling by providing something classy in the budget segment, but it was the introduction of the 308 that propelled Peugeot into the minds and shortlists of carbuyers, and into Japanese territory. But I am going to be honest and say that the 308 doesn’t at all move me, someone who leans more on the Continental side of the argument when it comes down to Europe vs Japan. While the 308’s sheer value can’t be ignored, it doesn’t offer much to the keen driver – while the engines are good – strong, smooth, and quite fast in the Turbo’s case – every other driving aspect isn’t. Even the 175 bhp 3-door GT doesn’t really cut it as a hot hatch. … [Read more...] about Peugeot RCZ Test Drive Report from Spain
Peugeot is to start selling a 197bhp version of its five-door 308 hatchback in the UK later this month. See official pictures of Peugeot 308 GTI A ‘GTI’ version of the 308 was launched in May and while Peugeot said it wouldn’t be coming to the UK, the new GT THP 200 is in effect the same car. It comes with Peugeot’s turbocharged 197bhp, 1.6-litre petrol engine, shared with the new RCZ, and sends power to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. CO2 emissions are rated at 159g/km, while the combined fuel economy is 41mpg. A revised suspension systems lowers the car by 10mm. The 200 THP also gets a styling upgrade over the standard 308 with a rear spoiler, twin chrome rear exhaust pipes, and ‘GT’ badges on the side and rear of the body. Peugeot is 200 years old this month, so what better way to celebrate than launching a 200 horsepower warmed-up hatch. The new 308 GT THP 200 five-door pictured costs £21,995. Not quite as much sparkle as the RCZ, but that's why it's not badged GTI, in the UK at least. The 308 GT THP 200 runs the same 1.6-litre turocharged petrol engine as the RCZ, giving out 197bhp and 159 g/km of C02. Peugeot hasn't given any performance details yet but the RCZ with the same engine and gearbox hits 60mph in 7.6 seconds.Peugoet is sensitive to its hot hatch history books, and has ducked out of badging this go-faster 308 a GTI. That missing 'i' tells you plenty about this car's intent. Yep. A few subtle differences such as a rear spolier, a lower front panel stolen from the 308CC, a rear diffuser housed in the lower bumper and finally twin chrome rear pipes and of course the '200' badges.Inside the 308 GT THP 200 has sports seats, leather 'sports' steering wheel and – if you decide to buy … [Read more...] about Peugeot 308 GT THP 200 (2010): a quasi GTI
