Ferrari need to pick Charles Leclerc as No.1 driver, or risk losing him to a rival team

February 1, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Even before a single lap has been run in the 2023 Formula 1 season, never mind a race result decided, Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur has twice been asked to pin his colours to the mast – Charles Leclerc or Carlos Sainz. He went with neither, adamant it’s too early to back one driver over the other. “But,” he wrapped up the first time around, “if at one stage we have to take action, I will take action.” The second time, he ended with “and if at one stage I have to take action for Carlos or for Charles, I will do it.” It’s an action that, should it come, will have long-term consequences. Team-mates at Ferrari for the first time in 2021 it was widely-speculated that Leclerc could have the measure of Sainz, but that wasn’t to be with the Spaniard winning the first round – although only by 5.5 points. However, that was a season in which Ferrari were still trying to get their horse (powers) into order in the wake of their 2019 engine scandal. Once they’d sorted that out, … [Read more...] about Ferrari need to pick Charles Leclerc as No.1 driver, or risk losing him to a rival team

James Vowles’ departure for Williams came as ‘quite a surprise’ to Toto Wolff

February 1, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Toto Wolff was not expecting James Vowles to hand in his resignation, but says being a team boss was always a “goal” for the former Mercedes’ chief strategist. Last season Mattia Binotto kicked off a round of silly season moves for F1’s team management, the Italian tendering his resignation. Shortly after Williams announced CEO Jost Capito was out while McLaren revealed Andreas Seidl would be heading to Sauber to replace the Ferrari-bound Fred Vasseur. The only question left to be answered was who would replace Capito at Williams. That turned out to be Vowles. Williams announced mid-January that the Mercedes’ chief strategist would take up the reins on February 20, Vowles bringing to an end his career in Brackley which began in the BAR/Honda days. Wolff wasn’t expecting that. Guenther Steiner vows all resources will be invested into striking new VF-23

Guenther Steiner has no intention of spending money on “other stuff”, the Haas team boss adamant their only investment right now is “in the car”. Haas unveiled their new-look 2023 livery , the American outfit swapping out last year’s white for a predominantly black car that is sponsored by MoneyGram. It’s Haas’ third title sponsor in the team’s brief Formula 1 history having previously partnered Rich Energy and Uralkali, neither of which ended on a good note. That has at times left the team in a financial hole, but it’s one Steiner says was never as bad as it was made out to be. “I’d say we were never in a bad position,” he told Motorsport.com in an interview when asked if MoneyGram’s arrival had put the team in a better position. “2020 was not an easy position, because of the pandemic when that broke out. But I think yes, it puts us in a very solid position.” PlanetF1 recommends Ranked: The 10 possible F1 2024 destinations for Daniel Ricciardo in order of … [Read more...] about Guenther Steiner vows all resources will be invested into striking new VF-23

Fred Vasseur predicts Mohammed Ben Sulayem storm will ‘disappear’ when F1 returns

February 1, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur believes the current furore surrounding FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem will soon fade away. The FIA President has found himself at the centre of a media storm in recent weeks, due to a series of incidents that have attracted the ire of Formula 1. The most egregious incident occurred when Ben Sulayem took to Twitter to offer his thoughts on the report from US publication Bloomberg that Liberty Media had turned down a $20 billion bid from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund to purchase the sport. “As the custodians of motorsport, the FIA, as a non-profit organisation, is cautious about alleged inflated price tags of $20bn being put on F1,” Ben Sulayem tweeted. “Any potential buyer is advised to apply common sense, consider the greater good of the sport and come with a clear, sustainable plan – not just a lot of money. “It is our duty to consider what the future impact will be for promoters in terms of increased hosting fees and other … [Read more...] about Fred Vasseur predicts Mohammed Ben Sulayem storm will ‘disappear’ when F1 returns

What are F1 teams permitted to do with their cars on ‘filming day’ shakedowns?

February 1, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Ahead of the 2023 Formula 1 season, most of the teams will carry out at least one ‘filming day’ to shakedown their new machines. Haas became the first of the 10 teams to reveal their 2023 look earlier this week, with the American-based squad showing off the livery their VF-23 will race with. However, the VF-23 itself won’t be shown off until after the team have taken to the track with the car for the first time – Haas will hold a ‘shakedown’ of the car at Silverstone on February 11th. Most of the teams will elect to hold a shakedown of their new cars before the start of official pre-season testing in Bahrain in late February, as such shakedowns allow for any unforeseen mechanical or technical issues with the build of the new cars to be spotted and ironed out before the start of the critical three days of track testing. But how do these shakedowns fit into the current rules – how are teams able to carry out private track testing with a current car? F1 teams make use of an FIA … [Read more...] about What are F1 teams permitted to do with their cars on ‘filming day’ shakedowns?

Pedro de la Rosa tells Spanish F1 fans to stop living in the past and embrace ‘golden age’

February 1, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Pedro de la Rosa has told Spanish F1 fans to stop living in the past and appreciate that they have two drivers on the F1 grid in Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz. And while they aren’t winning World titles at the moment, there are still race wins and podium results. The last time Spain celebrated a World Champion was back in 2006 when Alonso won his second successive championship with Renault. He went onto record runner-up results in 2007 with McLaren and twice with Ferrari in 2010 and 2012 but wasn’t able to add a third title to his tally. This season Spain could be in the hunt but with a different driver, Sainz. Last year the 28-year-old clinched his maiden race win, P1 at the British Grand Prix, while overall he managed nine podium results. De la Rosa says Spanish fans should appreciate that they have two drivers rather than lament the 16-year draught for World Championship titles. PlanetF1 recommends ‘Charles Leclerc is Ferrari’s key man, like Max is in Red Bull … [Read more...] about Pedro de la Rosa tells Spanish F1 fans to stop living in the past and embrace ‘golden age’

George Russell and Lewis Hamilton kick off 2023 track action with tyre test

February 1, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Mercedes have headed to Paul Ricard for a two-day test of Pirelli’s 2023 tyre compounds, with both George Russell and Lewis Hamilton in action. Paul Ricard plays host to the first meaningful track action of the 2023 Formula 1 season, as Pirelli are carrying out the first of three planned tyre tests ahead of the start of official pre-season testing. As revealed in November 2022, Pirelli have worked with the FIA to put together some additional tyre testing for their 2023 compounds, having been unable to fit in enough sessions during the frantic second half of the 2022 schedule. All 10 F1 teams are offered the opportunity to carry out tests on behalf of Pirelli over the course of the season, with Mercedes carrying out a two-day test at Paul Ricard on February 1st and 2nd. George Russell will take the wheel of the Mercedes W13 for Wednesday’s track time, with seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton getting the opportunity to blow off the winter cobwebs on Thursday. Fred Vasseur didn’t share his Ferrari plans with Audi until after he’d signed

February 1, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Fred Vasseur did not speak with Audi before signing with Ferrari, but once he did, he was told “you couldn’t refuse an offer from Ferrari”. Within moments of Mattia Binotto handing in his resignation in November there were rumours claiming it was only a matter of time before Ferrari confirmed Vasseur as his replacement. But as the days dragged on it was suggested the hold-up related to the Frenchman needing to exit to his contract with the Sauber Group where he was team boss at Alfa Romeo. Once that was finalised, Ferrari confirmed the 54-year-old with Andreas Seidl taking up the reins at Sauber. Reins that will be rebranded to Audi come 2026. Vasseur played a role in the German carmaker’s decision to buy a stake in Sauber, the first of those transactions having gone ahead in January. And yet, he revealed, he didn’t speak with Audi before signing with Ferrari. PlanetF1 recommends ‘Charles Leclerc is Ferrari’s key man, like Max is in Red Bull and Hamilton was for … [Read more...] about Fred Vasseur didn’t share his Ferrari plans with Audi until after he’d signed

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 57 As oil boomed throughout most of 2014, Houston's real estate prices climbed right along with it. According to data compiled by Redfin, the Bayou City was sixth in the nation for the number of million dollar homes sold during the third quarter, trailing only California's metropolises and Chicago. And this year, the price tag on the top 10 most expensive homes also raised the bar from 2013. Since Texas is a non-disclosure state, the exact sale prices are kept private, but the Houston Association of Realtors provided the list prices of the homes.
