One-Off Bugatti Chiron Profilee Sells For $10.8M At Auction

February 1, 2023 by www.motor1.com Leave a Comment

The Chiron is a success for Bugatti. The French automaker has sold all 500 of the build slots for the model and its variants. Now, even the pre-series model, the one-off Chiron Profilee was sold – and it's for a pretty, absolutely beautiful penny. In an auction held in France, the Bugatti Chiron Profilee was sold for 9,792,500 euros or $10,761,223 at the current exchange rates. This price doesn't include VAT, which will bring the price up to 12 million euros or over $13 million. Bugatti-Rimac CEO Mate Rimac claims that the Profilee now holds the world record for the most expensive new car sold at auction. The one-off Bugatti Chiron Profilee bridges the gap between the regular Chiron and the Chiron Pur Sport . Its development started in 2020, but despite Bugatti knowing that it was not meant to become a series vehicle, the automaker pushed through and finished the project. Powered by Bugatti's quad-turbocharged W16 engine, the Chiron Profilee produces an impressive 1,476 … [Read more...] about One-Off Bugatti Chiron Profilee Sells For $10.8M At Auction

The one major difference in Houston Rockets, Thunder rebuild efforts

February 1, 2023 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 Houston Rockets head coach Stephen Silas was posed a simple question as he met with the media following Tuesday's practice at the Toyota Center. Silas was asked to identify what is separating the rebuilds in Houston and Oklahoma City at the moment before the two squads face off Wednesday evening. As the Rockets enter Wednesday night firmly in the Western Conference cellar, the Thunder find themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt, far away from the race to the bottom of the lottery in hopes of landing Victor Wembanyama . Silas highlighted one major reason why Oklahoma City has been able to kickstart its rebuild following All-Star departures across the last half-decade. "They have a really good player who could be a top-10 player in the league," Silas said in reference to Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. "Early, he helped them win some games to where their … [Read more...] about The one major difference in Houston Rockets, Thunder rebuild efforts

Ferrari need to pick Charles Leclerc as No.1 driver, or risk losing him to a rival team

February 1, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Even before a single lap has been run in the 2023 Formula 1 season, never mind a race result decided, Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur has twice been asked to pin his colours to the mast – Charles Leclerc or Carlos Sainz. He went with neither, adamant it’s too early to back one driver over the other. “But,” he wrapped up the first time around, “if at one stage we have to take action, I will take action.” The second time, he ended with “and if at one stage I have to take action for Carlos or for Charles, I will do it.” It’s an action that, should it come, will have long-term consequences. Team-mates at Ferrari for the first time in 2021 it was widely-speculated that Leclerc could have the measure of Sainz, but that wasn’t to be with the Spaniard winning the first round – although only by 5.5 points. However, that was a season in which Ferrari were still trying to get their horse (powers) into order in the wake of their 2019 engine scandal. Once they’d sorted that out, … [Read more...] about Ferrari need to pick Charles Leclerc as No.1 driver, or risk losing him to a rival team

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 57 As oil boomed throughout most of 2014, Houston's real estate prices climbed right along with it. According to data compiled by Redfin, the Bayou City was sixth in the nation for the number of million dollar homes sold during the third quarter, trailing only California's metropolises and Chicago. And this year, the price tag on the top 10 most expensive homes also raised the bar from 2013. Since Texas is a non-disclosure state, the exact sale prices are kept private, but the Houston Association of Realtors provided the list prices of the homes. James Vowles’ departure for Williams came as ‘quite a surprise’ to Toto Wolff

February 1, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Toto Wolff was not expecting James Vowles to hand in his resignation, but says being a team boss was always a “goal” for the former Mercedes’ chief strategist. Last season Mattia Binotto kicked off a round of silly season moves for F1’s team management, the Italian tendering his resignation. Shortly after Williams announced CEO Jost Capito was out while McLaren revealed Andreas Seidl would be heading to Sauber to replace the Ferrari-bound Fred Vasseur. The only question left to be answered was who would replace Capito at Williams. That turned out to be Vowles. Williams announced mid-January that the Mercedes’ chief strategist would take up the reins on February 20, Vowles bringing to an end his career in Brackley which began in the BAR/Honda days. Wolff wasn’t expecting that. Houston pet owners must now microchip their animals to avoid fine

February 1, 2023 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 1, the City of Houston will require all dog and cat owners to microchip their pets . City officials say the microchips will help the city return lost pets to their owners and register them. Houston City Council passed an ordinance in 2022 to require any resident in the city that owns a dog or a cat at least four months old to be microchipped and vaccinated against rabies. The year-long grace period ends Wednesday as the law goes into effect. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner reminded residents in a Houston City Council meeting on Wednesday morning. "Please get your pets chipped, and let's move forward," Turner said. In an interview with KHOU 11 , BARC Deputy Director Cory Stottlemeyer said the microchip is to help pet owners and city officials find pets in case they're lost. "You could be the best pet owner in the world, but when a stressful situation happens, anything, anything can happen," Stottlemeyer told KHOU. The BARC Animal Shelter , … [Read more...] about Houston pet owners must now microchip their animals to avoid fine

Guenther Steiner vows all resources will be invested into striking new VF-23

February 1, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Guenther Steiner has no intention of spending money on “other stuff”, the Haas team boss adamant their only investment right now is “in the car”. Haas unveiled their new-look 2023 livery , the American outfit swapping out last year’s white for a predominantly black car that is sponsored by MoneyGram. It’s Haas’ third title sponsor in the team’s brief Formula 1 history having previously partnered Rich Energy and Uralkali, neither of which ended on a good note. That has at times left the team in a financial hole, but it’s one Steiner says was never as bad as it was made out to be. “I’d say we were never in a bad position,” he told Motorsport.com in an interview when asked if MoneyGram’s arrival had put the team in a better position. “2020 was not an easy position, because of the pandemic when that broke out. But I think yes, it puts us in a very solid position.” PlanetF1 recommends Ranked: The 10 possible F1 2024 destinations for Daniel Ricciardo in order of … [Read more...] about Guenther Steiner vows all resources will be invested into striking new VF-23

Russian journalist sentenced for speaking out on Ukraine

February 1, 2023 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

MOSCOW (AP) — A court in Moscow on Wednesday sentenced a Russian journalist in absentia to eight years in prison on charges of disparaging the military, the latest move in the authorities' relentless crackdown on dissent. Alexander Nevzorov, a television journalist and former lawmaker, was convicted on charges of spreading false information about the military under a law that was adopted soon after Russian President Vladimir Putin sent troops into Ukraine. The law effectively exposes anyone critical of the Russian military action in Ukraine to fines and prison sentences of up to 10 years. Nevzorov was accused of posting "false information” on social media about the Russian shelling of a maternity hospital in the Sea of Azov port of Mariupol. Moscow has fiercely denied its involvement. Nevzorov, who moved abroad after the start of the Ukrainian conflict, didn't have an immediate comment on the verdict. Prominent opposition politician Ilya Yashin was sentenced in December to … [Read more...] about Russian journalist sentenced for speaking out on Ukraine

Harris County Commissioners pass toll road discount for motorists

February 1, 2023 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

Harris County Commissioners passed an ordinance to implement a toll road discount at a count commissioner court meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 31, in a unanimous 5-0 vote. The 10 percent toll road deduction will start on Sept. 4. The new policy applies only to two-axle passenger vehicles, meaning four-axle trailer trucks are omitted. Two passenger vehicles make up 95 percent of EZTag users. The policy aims to make EZTags accessible, and will include eight free tags per household. Previously tags were $15 each. Harris County is home to four main tollways: Hardy Toll Road, Katy Managed Lanes on Interstate 10, Sam Houston Tollway  and Westpark Tollways. According to Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey, the county has collected over $894 million in tolls over the past 10 years and is happy to give customers a break. "This gives us confidence on what the Toll Road Authority is doing, when you look at the consistent revenues that they generate," Ramsey said. "We are in many ways the … [Read more...] about Harris County Commissioners pass toll road discount for motorists
