Takeaways from Kari Lake’s failed legal challenge to Ariz. election results
PHOENIX - Six months after losing her campaign for Arizona governor, Republican Kari Lake failed to persuade a trial judge to set aside the results of the election. Lake, a former television news personality and prominent election denier backed by former president Donald Trump, has refused to concede and mounted a legal challenge late last year, claiming that the results could not be trusted because they were tainted by fraud or mistakes. Courts rejected most of Lake's claims, and her attorneys were sanctioned $2,000 for making "false factual statements," but one part was allowed to go to trial: Lake's accusation that election workers in Maricopa County, home to Phoenix and most of the state's voters, did not properly follow a signature-verification process for early ballots. During a three-day trial last week, Lake's own witnesses detailed how that process did occur. Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson ruled Monday that Lake failed to prove misconduct or illegal … [Read more...] about Takeaways from Kari Lake’s failed legal challenge to Ariz. election results

F1 Fanatic round-up: ‘Is F1 trying to get rid of teams?’ – Fernley
In the round-up: Force India deputy team principal Bob Fernley questions why Formula One is allowing the financial terms for smaller teams to become so unfavourable. Links Your daily digest of F1 news, views, features and more. Fernley says costs threaten some F1 teams (Reuters) “CVC have got an agenda as bankers to make as much money out of their investment as they possibly can and that involves minimal investment. And that is not in the sport’s interests. It’s the worst combination that you can have. I only question the logic of it. Are we actually trying to stack it in a way that is to get rid of teams so they can bring customer teams in maybe?” F1 minnows could be driven over the edge (The Times, subscription required) Fernley: “They have raped the sport. CVC have done an absolutely awful job.” Hamilton ‘struggling’ to drive car (BBC) “Winter testing wasn’t too bad and when we changed something in China it felt good and I got pole, so the confidence … [Read more...] about F1 Fanatic round-up: ‘Is F1 trying to get rid of teams?’ – Fernley

Mercedes not using French GP layout for Paul Ricard test · RaceFans
In the round-up: Valtteri Bottas says Mercedes’ upcoming tyre test at Paul Ricard will not use the same track configuration as next month’s race. What they say Mercedes will conduct wet weather tyre testing for Pirelli at the home of the French Grand Prix . No, it’s not [the grand prix] layout. We tested on it but now it has a new Tarmac so it’s going to be different. It should be a similar Tarmac to Barcelona and Silverstone, so we’ll see how the tyres behave. But it’s a very different track from many others, so many long corners. Sector three is really hard for the tyres and it’s going to be hot in the summer. But anything we can learn from wet running and all that will be important. Lando Norris turns to memes in savage reaction to Charles Leclerc ‘inchident’
Lando Norris had a rather hilarious response to the official F1 Twitter account when his Q3 incident with Charles Leclerc was brought up. Leclerc had been on a slow lap during Q3 while he prepared for a flying run during what was a thrilling qualifying session on home soil for the McLaren driver, but that would lead to a rather scary moment for Lando Norris in the McLaren. Norris would approach the Ferrari at a rate of knots in the tunnel and was forced to back out of the throttle, this incident later resulting in a three-place grid drop for Leclerc, meaning his P3 qualifying result became P6 on the grid. After the session Norris has been in a mischievous mood when he joked that Leclerc should be “disqualified” for what happened, and as it turned out, his fun and games were not quite over there. The Formula 1 Twitter account would post footage of the impeding incident, and Norris could not help but offer up a reply which was savage yet hilarious at the same time. What has … [Read more...] about Lando Norris turns to memes in savage reaction to Charles Leclerc ‘inchident’
