Valtteri Bottas has revealed he suffered with an eating disorder during the early stages of his Formula 1 career as the then Williams driver trained “to pain, physically and mentally”. Bottas joined the grid in 2013, racing for Williams after a year on the sidelines as their reserve driver. It was a big leap forward for the Finn who in 2011 won the GP3 title, skipped Formula 2 to head straight into Formula 1. But it came at a price as he pushed too hard, admitting today the exercise and eating became an “addiction”. “I trained myself to pain, physically and mentally,” he said in an episode for season two of the Maria Veitola series . “It got out of hand, and it became an addiction. “No eating disorder was officially diagnosed, but it was definitely there.” PlanetF1.com recommends Valtteri Bottas questions FIA statement ban: ‘I don’t understand why they want to control us’ F1 race wins: Which drivers have the highest win totals in F1 history? How will EU ban and West’s price cap on Russian diesel work?
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 11 FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — The European Union is taking another big step toward cutting its energy ties with Russia. The 27-nation bloc is banning Russian refined oil products like diesel fuel and joining the U.S. and other allies in imposing a price cap on sales to non-Western countries. Europe's ban takes effect Sunday following its embargo on coal and most oil from Russia. The move is meant to further slash reliance on Russian energy and payments into the Kremlin's war chest as the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine nears. The newest energy sanctions have risks: Diesel prices have already jumped since the war started on Feb. 24, and there's uncertainty about how the EU embargo and price cap by the Group of Seven major democracies will affect the market for a fuel crucial to the global economy. Most things people buy or eat … [Read more...] about How will EU ban and West’s price cap on Russian diesel work?

The mudbugs are a delicacy on the Gulf Coast, particularly in Louisiana and here in Houston. Here's what you need to know about this year's crawfish season. When is crawfish season? Peak crawfish season is in the spring, beginning in February or March and sunsetting in May or June. This is when the crawfish are going to be at their biggest and juiciest. Crawfish are kind of like us: They get chilly. If the weather is cold at the beginning of the season , they bury themselves in the ground, making it difficult to harvest them. Chef Nikki Tran is building a culinary bridge between Houston and Saigon
It's Crawfish Week at Chron! For four days, the food team will be dropping fun stories about Houston's favorite crustacean. Read all our crawfish coverage here. HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM — Freshwater shrimp, more specifically giant river prawns, are the star of the menu at chef Nikki Tran's Kậu Ba Quán . At first glance, it resembles any of the hundreds of quán nhậu, or open-air restaurants meant for plentiful eating and drinking, in Ho Chi Minh City, colloquially referred to as Saigon. A Saigon native, Tran serves the prawns in the quintessential Vietnamese preparation: rang muối, or salt-roasted. Sporting a slight char, these typically come with a dipping ramekin of simply salt, pepper and a whole calamansi. But, as a result of Tran's time in Houston in the early 2000s at the onset of the Vietnamese-Cajun crawfish movement , the hulking crustaceans here also come in a Gulf Coast version: generously slathered in Cajun garlic butter atop potato halves, corn and spiced … [Read more...] about Chef Nikki Tran is building a culinary bridge between Houston and Saigon
Boiling Crab
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 A certain fortitude is required to dine at the Boiling Crab during crawfish season. By 6 p.m. — early for dinner in Houston — a line will have clotted the foyer and spilled onto the front sidewalk. “It will be 45 minutes,” a harried waitress may tell you as she inscribes your name in a crumpled notebook. That’s a short wait at this wildly popular restaurant fronting the Viet Hoa shopping plaza, which dominates the intersection of Beechnut and Beltway 8 near Houston’s new Chinatown. As the evening darkens, knots of cars snarl the parking lot and a vexed security guard directs rapper Chamillionaire’s custom pickup truck into a tight space. Curb-sitters step out for sodas; a few procure beers to sip in the car. In the entryway, kids peck at handheld video games while the grown-ups talk into cell phones, everybody breathing deeply of the garlic-and-brine aroma gusting from the … [Read more...] about Boiling Crab
Valtteri Bottas admits his five seasons trying to beat Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes were ‘exhausting’
Valtteri Bottas has revealed it was only in his last season as Lewis Hamilton’s team-mate that he accepted the Briton was the “better driver”. Bottas joined Mercedes in 2017, promoted up the order after the shock retirement of Hamilton’s championship-winning team-mate Nico Rosberg. The German called time on his career after beating Hamilton to the 2016 title in what was a ferocious and vicious battle, saying he didn’t have the energy to do it all again. Bottas went into his time at Mercedes believing he too could fight Hamilton for the Drivers’ titles. But even with the arrival of ‘Bottas 2.0’, 3.0 and so on, he was at the end of the day the “sensational wingman” as his team-mate wrapped up one title after another. It was, Bottas admits, an “exhausting” time.
