Numbers never lie. There have been more than a few skeptics regarding Lamborghini’s proposed Nurburgring lap record. Before the new Huracan Performante debuted in Geneva, the company said that it was able to achieve a 6:52:01 lap time, making it the fastest production car to ever take on the Green Hell. Now Lamborghini has proof. Director of Research and Development, Maurizio Reggiani, spoke with Roadshow in Geneva to provide some much-needed details. First and foremost were the tires; the set of Pirelli Trofeo R rubbers that were used in the record-setting lap can be had as an option to buyers, not a special set of one-offs.Reggiani also confirms that the speeds shown in the video indeed do come from GPS, which can often return some unpredictable results. But the most assuring of all is the actual data. A full VBox GPS log was provided to the publication, which shows any and all available data on the car from the lap in question. That log … [Read more...] about Lamborghini has proof that it broke the Nurburgring lap record
Nurburgring lap record
The new Huracan Performante put down an alleged time of 6:52:01, but some are saying it might not be true. Update: Lamborghini has proof that it broke the Nurburgring lap record Lamborghini claims its new Huracan Performante achieved a Nürburgring lap time of 6:52.01 – which would best the Porsche 918 (6:57) by almost five seconds. But some are calling into question the legitimacy of the lap, saying that it somehow could have been enhanced, or that the company used some special equipment to achieve it. Our first evidence is brought to us by the blog BridgetoGantry.com. The author, Dale Lomas, notes that the speedometer may have been fed by less-precise GPS data rather than wheel speed. He compared the digital speedo on the Huracan Performante to the same speedo found on the Aventador SV. "The wheel speed is showing on the real-life dashboard," says Lomas, "while the GPS one on the software is showing something else, even though the … [Read more...] about Did Lamborghini really break the Nürburgring lap record?
Fans want to raise $159,000 to get the car to Germany. Though the Dodge Viper ACR holds more than 13 lap records at a number of tracks around the country, Dodge has yet to take its most potent snake to the Nurburgring in Germany. The outgoing 2011 Viper ACR, you may remember, recorded a time of just 7:12:13, holding on to the record for a number of years. It was eventually bested by the Porsche 918, which recorded a blistering time of 6:57:00. But Dodge faithful think that the new Viper ACR can reclaim its title – or at least come close. A group of owners have set up a GoFundMe campaign in hopes that the money raised can send two Viper ACRs to the ‘Ring in pursuit of the record once again. If they are able to see that $159,000 raised, the record attempt is expected to take place in April 2017. A well-known Texas dealer, Viper Exchange, has even agreed to supply two ACRs free of charge. With Viper production coming to an end, this could be the last … [Read more...] about Viper owners crowd-funding Nurburgring lap record attempt
