UPDATE - 21:00, 26.07.18 And so, having dangled the prospect in front of us for half a day, Lamborghini has finally gotten around to providing video evidence of the SVJ's new lap record. Thoughts? Well, as with the SV's lap three years ago, the Aventador looks nothing if not absolutely ballastic, and you do rather have to take your hat off to Marco Mapelli, who certainly leaves it all out there on the track. Lamborghini seems keen to avoid any question of legitimacy, too, insisting that the lap was recorded under the formal scrutiny of Remak who apparently dealt with the VBOX side of things. With margin of success now down to a couple of seconds, that kind of attention to detail is going to become more prevalent as time goes on. How much lower can the lap record go? Well, there's a host of pretenders (the Aston Martin Valkyrie, the McLaren Senna, the Mercedes-AMG Project One to name but a few) waiting in the wings so we'll find out soon enough. For now though, the SVJ is the one … [Read more...] about Aventador SVJ claims Nurburgring lap record
Nurburgring lap record
The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ has set a new Nurburgring lap record. The supercar went around the circuit in 6 min 44.97 seconds. Earlier, Lamborgini had hinted that Aventador SVJ had beaten the Porsche 911 GT2 RS’ time. However, no one would’ve expected it to beat it by more than 2.3 seconds. This time Lamborghini made sure they installed on-board cameras and telemetry equipment to avoid any controversy. The Aventador SVJ also features second-gen active aerodynamics, which Lamborghini calls – Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA 2.0). It is powered by an updated 6.5-litre, naturally-aspirated V12 engine with a higher power output compared to the standard SV. The SVJ is also claimed to be lighter than the SV, boasting a power-to-weight ratio of 1.98 hp/kg. The Aventador SVJ will be unveiled at Pebble Beach in August 2018. … [Read more...] about Lamborghini Aventador SVJ sets new Nurburgring Lap Record
The Porsche 911 GT2 RS became the “king of the ring” in September last year. It lapped the Nurburgring in 6 min 47.3 sec, improving on the time set by the Lamborghini Huracan Performante. Now, according to Instagram user 43lambo, a Performante owner himself, Lamborghini may have got the Nurburgring crown back with the Aventador SVJ. The man claims that the SVJ has shaved off 2 seconds from the record, which means its lap time stands at around 6 min 45 sec. While it is still not confirmed, it would be reasonable to expect Lamborghini to make a record attempt. In 2015, the Aventador SV had clocked a sub-seven minute lap time. With more power and improved aerodynamics on the SVJ, a new lap record sounds achievable. Then, there are the bragging rights that come with a Nurburgring lap record, which Lamborghini wouldn’t want to miss. The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ has been filmed numerous times at the Nurburgring in the recent months. This, indicates … [Read more...] about Lamborghini Aventador SVJ May Have Set a New Nurburgring Lap Record
Porsche returned to the Nurburgring Nordschleife with the 919 Hybrid Evo to set a new all-time lap time record and the result speaks for itself: 5 minutes, 19.546 seconds, which means an average speed of 145.6mph (234km/h) across the 20.8km-long track (12.9 miles). With Timo Bernhard sitting behind the wheel of the 919 Hybrid Evo, Porsche has beaten the Stefan Bellof’s lap record (6:11.13) that stood for 35 years by no less than 51 seconds. The record car is a heavily reworked version of last year’s Le Mans winner, with Porsche upgrading the aerodynamics to produce 53 percent more downforce and lowering the weight by 39kg (85lbs) to 849kg (1871lbs). The hybrid powertrain of the 919 has been similarly upgraded to produce a combined 1160hp, with the turbocharged V4 engine making 710hp and an electric motor providing 433hp. Last April, Porsche took the 919 Hybrid Evo with Neel Jani behind the wheel to Spa Francorchamps, where it also broke the overall lap record with a … [Read more...] about Porsche 919 Tribute Destroyed The Nurburgring Lap Record Posting A 5:19.55!
Mercedes-AMG Project One might destroy the ultimate Nurburgring lap record. Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers has told the media that the Project One hypercar will challenge the fastest ever lap time set at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. The current record is 6 min 11.1 seconds which was set by Stefan Bellof in a Porsche 956 back in 1983 and not a single car has come close to beating it ever since. According to Moers, the main challenge is “finding the right driver”. This shows how confident the Mercedes boss is when it comes the Project One setting the fastest lap of the ‘Ring. He has also hinted that the supercar could be built in the UK where their Formula 1 team is based. As you know, the Project One uses the same hybrid engine as the F1 car. The combustion engine alone produces around 1000 hp. Besides, the car is expected to weigh around 1350 kg, while the bodywork is likely to produce about 675 kg of downforce. Mercedes will be building just 275 examples of their … [Read more...] about Mercedes-AMG Project One to challenge Stefan Bellof’s Nurburgring lap record
