This Self-Transforming, Voice-Controlled Optimus Prime Is Beyond Epic

· April 12, 2021 ·

It's a 19-inch-tall transforming semi-truck, and you can buy one. There is no level of awesomeness that exists beyond what you see above. Yes, Motor1.com is staffed with pop culture nerds of multiple generations, but this transcends all of that. This isn't just Optimus Prime, the epic leader of the Autobots who transforms from a bitchen semi-truck to the toughest robot in the universe. This is a legit robotic Transformer that walks, talks, and yes, transforms through either voice command or radio control. It comes from the tech-savvy minds at Robosen Robotics, and it's not some flash-in-the-pan idea. It was actually the product of more than 11 years of research and development and consists of over 5,000 individual components. Among them are 60 microchips that control 27 small motors, allowing Prime to not just drive in truck mode and transform into a 19-inch-tall robot. He also walks around, pivots, and does freaking hero poses because that's what Prime does. He also … [Read more...] about This Self-Transforming, Voice-Controlled Optimus Prime Is Beyond Epic

Bahrain GP: Hamilton holds off Verstappen to win epic duel

· March 28, 2021 ·

Mercedes and Red Bull deployed differing tyre strategies, with Verstappen's offset rubber life advantage in the final stint meaning he was chasing Hamilton after leading the early stages from pole. With four laps to go, Verstappen attacked Hamilton around the outside of Turn 4, which was been heavily policed for track limits by the FIA, and as the Dutchman went too wide off the kerb he was ordered to give the place back further around the lap. Verstappen was able to get back close to Hamilton on the final tour but was not able to attempt another move and lost out by 0.7s. At the start, Verstappen had covered Hamilton by quickly moving to defend the inside line into Turn 1, successfully defending the lead while Leclerc put the slightly-slower-starting Bottas under pressure for third. Verstappen led Hamilton around the rest of the first lap, with Leclerc passing Bottas at Turn 4, shortly before the race was neutralised after Haas driver Nikita Mazepin dropped his VF21 by … [Read more...] about Bahrain GP: Hamilton holds off Verstappen to win epic duel

Awesome Dad Builds Epic Wooden BMW EV For Son’s First Day Of School

· March 31, 2021 ·

Can he be our dad, too? Where do we even begin with this? Admittedly, it's become customary these days to begin a BMW-related article with a mention of the large grille. In this instance, we'll mention it because it showcases just a portion of the incredible detail that went into this electric-powered, built-from-scratch creation. And it was built for all the right reasons. First, let's talk about this car and yes, it's a proper car. An electric motor turns the back wheels, modulated by an accelerator pedal. A gorgeously carved and detailed wooden steering wheel turns the front wheels. There are functioning headlights and taillights, the "digital" dash lights up with a speedometer, and there's seating for two. That's important because this car is built for two specific people – a proud dad with amazing woodworking skills, and his young son who is just entering school. F1 news recap: The epic 2014 Bahrain Grand Prix

· April 6, 2021 ·

Here, with the help of the Autosport.com Archive, we take a look back at the stories of the race, and the bigger pictures that were bubbling away in the paddock at the time. Sakhir spectacle Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes AMG Photo by: Charles Coates / Motorsport Images As the result of a move to make grand prix racing more road relevant, F1 had abandoned the screaming V8 engines in favour of hybrids for 2014 – with Mercedes dominant in the first two races of the campaign that had proved to be a turn off for many. The lack of noise and reduction of speed had been a big talking point in the opening weeks of the season, as Ferrari in particular pushed for radical change. But that did not stop Sakhir delivering a fantastic spectacle. And it was Lewis Hamilton who triumphed after a thrilling battle with Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg that went all the way to the chequered flag. Let them race Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes W05, battles with Nico Rosberg, Mercedes W05 … [Read more...] about F1 news recap: The epic 2014 Bahrain Grand Prix

Mostert feels he “deserved a trophy” from wild second race

· March 21, 2021 ·

It was an action-packed affair for the Walkinshaw Andretti United star, who led the early part of the race after out-pacing Shane van Gisbergen and Jamie Whincup on the opening lap. He lost that lead on a Lap 7 restart, before finding himself in an epic battle for second place with rival Cam Waters across the second stint. Famous for making contact a number of times while Tickford teammates, the pair were at it again with two laps to go as Mostert tapped Waters into a spin at the first corner. He slowed to redress the situation, which brought Andre Heimgartner and Jamie Whincup into the battle for third place. Heimgartner initially climbed through to third, only for Mostert to cart him wide at turn one next time around, Whincup passing them both to score the final spot on the podium. Speaking post-race Mostert said he apologised to Heimgartner as he lost a position, but also felt he'd been blocked into Turn 1. He added that he felt like he deserved a … [Read more...] about Mostert feels he “deserved a trophy” from wild second race
