RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein announced a bid for governor in 2024 on Wednesday, with the Democrat pledging to focus on public education, economic opportunity and equality and to provide a sharp contrast with a potential Republican opponent. “We’ll build a better and brighter North Carolina by standing up for what’s right, fighting to fix what’s wrong and doing right by every single North Carolinians, no matter who you are,” Stein said in a short video released by his campaign. Stein, the state's top law enforcement officer since being first elected in 2016, was always considered a likely candidate to attempt to succeed Democrat Roy Cooper, who is term-limited from seeking reelection. Cooper himself was attorney general for four terms, and Stein served under him as head of consumer protection division for several years. Stein’s early announcement — 14 months before primary elections — could attempt to prevent any other big names to enter the … [Read more...] about Democratic attorney general runs for North Carolina governor

Guenther Steiner wants US driver Logan Sargeant at ‘the American team’ Haas
Guenther Steiner said one of his wishes is to see Logan Sargeant one day move to Haas as the young American driver prepares for his debut F1 season. Over the last few years, Haas have been the sole American representative on the grid with their headquarters in Kannapolis, North Carolina but in 2023, their car will not be the only showing of the Stars and Stripes. Sargeant will become the first American driver since 2015 as he makes his debut in the sport with Williams following an impressive F2 career. But, a potential match made in heaven turned out not to be the case as, although Haas were on the market for a new driver, they opted against pursuing Sargeant, believing they needed a driver with more experience. “Of course I would like to see an American driver with us,” Steiner told Texan broadcaster KVUE. “I think what we need to see is the development of an American driver, which is very difficult. “We had the last two years ago with two rookies, last year with one … [Read more...] about Guenther Steiner wants US driver Logan Sargeant at ‘the American team’ Haas

Alfa Romeo Confirms Work Has Started On New Large EV For North America
Alfa Romeo's lineup is pretty thin in the US. The automaker currently offers the Stelvio and Giulia, with the Tonale going on sale sometime this year. Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato told Automotive News Europe that it's working to bring a fully electric E-segment vehicle to North America that might not look like your traditional crossover. Imparato also said that aerodynamics are important in an EV, allowing for more creativity in a vehicle's design. The automaker will nail down the car’s look this year, with the new model scheduled to arrive sometime around 2027. NASCAR’s Kyle Larson wants to ‘wager’ Zak Brown for an F1 test
NASCAR driver Kyle Larson says he wants to propose a “wager” to McLaren boss Zak Brown in order to get him a test in the Formula 1 car. The McLaren CEO has been known to hand out drives to those within the papaya family with Pato O’Ward, Alex Palou and Colton Herta all driving the 2021 car at various points last season. Even Mario Andretti was seen in the car during a runout before the United States Grand Prix. But now it seems he will have another driver knocking on his door with NASCAR’s Larson saying he would be up for a “wager.” The 30-year-old was recently announced as a McLaren driver for the 2023 Indy 500 and seemingly wants to get a similar offer to those who have driven for the team before. “No, not yet,” he told the Race’s IndyCar podcast when asked if he talked to Brown about F1. “As of right now, I’m just hoping to get passes to the Vegas f1 race! That’s kind of all I care about. “I would love to [test an F1 car] I just haven’t mentioned anything to him yet. … [Read more...] about NASCAR’s Kyle Larson wants to ‘wager’ Zak Brown for an F1 test
2024 Ford Ranger For North America Spied Without Any Camouflage
Seeing a Ford Ranger on the streets of Detroit isn't a big deal, but this one is special. It's the next-generation model, which debuted for global markets over a year ago. That didn't include North America, and in the months since the debut, we've seen camouflaged test vehicles from time to time. Now, our spy photographers in Motown caught the new US-spec Ranger in full view, revealing everything on the outside. It's probably no real surprise that the Ranger destined for North America looks like the global model . Actually, it might be some surprise, considering we've seen camouflaged trucks around Ford's world headquarters in recent months. The coverings suggested some styling tweaks would set these pickups apart from the rest, but that's not the case at all. The only notable differences we see on this camo-free Ranger include a sliding rear window, a backup camera, and a high-mount brake light. The camera and brake light help affirm this is a truck for America. … [Read more...] about 2024 Ford Ranger For North America Spied Without Any Camouflage
Texas Republicans want to ban these foreign-born citizens from buying land
Around 100 Houstonians and elected officials held a rally in front of City Hall on Monday to express their opposition to Texas' Senate Bill 147 —a measure that, if passed, would ban citizens and foreign entities from China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia from buying land in the state. A one-page bill drafted by state Sen. Lois Kolkhorst’s (R-Brenham) explains that the legislation applies to any governmental entity and individual citizens of those countries. In addition to citizens and governmental entities, this bill would impact companies tied "directly or indirectly" to the government of those four countries. Speakers at Monday's event said this legislation resembles previous anti-foreigner legislation such as the Chinese Exclusion Act and stokes hate against the Asian community in particular. "We should target no one," state Rep. Gene Wu (D-Houston) said. "We should not target China; we should not target Russia; we should not target any place because their people from … [Read more...] about Texas Republicans want to ban these foreign-born citizens from buying land
