FTI says country needs to step up EV development

June 23, 2022 by www.bangkokpost.com Leave a Comment

Thailand must speed up its electric vehicle (EV) development to stay ahead of Indonesia if it still wants to become a regional EV production hub, says the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI). While Thailand is good at manufacturing cars and auto parts, Indonesia is rich in the resources required to serve the EV industry. "Indonesia is a strong competitor because it has a key raw material needed for EV battery production," said Kriengkrai Thiennukul, chairman of the FTI, referring to nickel, which is used in lithium batteries. "We have to step up efforts to develop our EV industry, taking advantage of our strength as a centre of car production and supply chains." Thailand is the largest car manufacturer in Asean and is ranked fifth in Asia and 11th in the world, said Mr Kriengkrai. Its major car production status has long earned it the moniker "the Detroit of Asia". Thailand produces around 1.8 million cars a year at present, which is below the 2 million recorded in some other … [Read more...] about FTI says country needs to step up EV development

Prodrive P25 Races Up The Goodwood Hill Making Sweet Flat-Four Boxer Music

Listen to this article A veritable rally icon, the Subaru Impreza 22B is getting a makeover as Prodrive has unveiled the P25 as a tribute to the legend. The ultra-limited special edition celebrated its dynamic debut this week at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where the restomod went up the famous hill to the delight of the public. Underneath the familiar skin is an original two-door WRX chassis, but everything else has been revamped. The flat-four boxer engine sounds great, and it pushes out over 400 horsepower and an ample 600 Newton-meters (443 pound-feet) of torque in a car that weighs less than 1,200 kilograms (2,645 pounds). The hill climb course was obviously too short to exploit the P25's full capabilities, but Prodrive does say its road-legal WRC machine has supercar levels of acceleration by sprinting to 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than three and a half seconds. Prodrive P25 3 Photos Most of the body … [Read more...] about Prodrive P25 Races Up The Goodwood Hill Making Sweet Flat-Four Boxer Music

IATA's 78th Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit hosted by Qatar Airways took place from June 19-21 in Doha, Qatar. The aviation industry is finally seeing signs of optimism as it tries to rebound from a major crisis, although the recovery path appears to be uneven across the globe, particularly in Asia-Pacific as a result of remaining restrictions. The restrictions are hampering a region that still lags the rest of the world in terms of aviation activity, said Philip Goh, regional vice-president for Asia-Pacific at the International Air Transport Association (IATA). According to IATA, Asia-Pacific has started to see an uptick in international passenger demand, which tallied more than 20% of the level in 2019 in April following further easing of travel restrictions. "The trend of revenge travel is not just a short-term one as demand will remain, while the high oil prices we face today will eventually go away," Mr Goh said. If momentum continues to grow from … [Read more...] about Aviation industry upbeat on outlook for H2

Romania spies energy opening in Europe

Workers in a training simulator at the nuclear power complex in Cernavoda, Romania. ANDREEA CAMPEANU/nyt A row of hulking concrete domes loom along the Danube-Black Sea Canal in Cernavoda, about two hours east of Bucharest. Two of the structures house nuclear reactors feeding Romania's electrical grid. Two others were begun decades ago and are still waiting for completion -- though, perhaps, not for long. "We have major plans," said Valentin Nae, the site director. The nuclear complex was conceived during the regime of Nicolae Ceausescu, the communist dictator who ran Romania for a quarter of a century before he was overthrown and executed in 1989. Ceausescu's strategy was to insulate Romania from the influence of the Soviet Union by having it generate its own electricity. The Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant in Cernavoda. ANDREEA CAMPEANU/nyt More than 30 years on, as much of Europe looks to cut ties to Russia's energy, the two reactors very cheaply supply about 20% of … [Read more...] about Romania spies energy opening in Europe

Listen to this article There's a new player in the hypercar game and its name is Red Bull Advanced Technologies. If that doesn't sound familiar, RBAT is the engineering arm of Red Bull Racing Group and is planning to take on the likes of Aston Martin Valkyrie and Mercedes-AMG One with the RB17. Speaking of the automaker from Gaydon and its electrified machine, the upcoming rival is also penned by F1 designer Adrian Newey. We only get this vague design sketch for the time being, but RBAT is sharing some juicy preliminary specifications. At the heart of the RB17 hypercar will be a twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain producing in excess of 1,100 horsepower. The backbone will be represented by a carbon-composite tub wrapped around a body featuring "the most advanced ground effect package available in a series production car."
