Right now, the boldest and most exclusive Nissan GT-R you could ever dream of owning is the GT-R50 by Italdesign, which will go on a short production run of just 50 units, each priced at a little over $1 million. While pretty spectacular, it still doesn’t bring us in any way closer to knowing what Nissan is planning to do about their next-generation GT-R, which will likely be code-named the R36. However, what if we took the GT-R50 and sprinkled in some 2020 Vision Gran Turismo Concept bits? Thankfully we don’t need to play that “what if” game with ourselves, because designer Enoch Gonzales has already taken the liberty of crafting such a car digitally. Not menacing enough While the design of the car is certainly more modern than what we see on the current GT-R, there’s also something slightly off about it and we think it’s the size. The render just doesn’t look sufficiently aggressive, as you could argue that it’s not low enough and … [Read more...] about 2021 Nissan GT-R Study Brings Vision Gran Turismo And GT-R50 By Italdesign Together

It is no secret that Nissan is working on an all-new GT-R, which in all likelihood will be code-named the R36. The new supercar will act as a replacement to the aging R35 that set the performance car world alight more than a decade ago. According to the latest reports, the new-generation GT-R won’t launch until the early 2020s, giving us plenty of time to imagine how it may look. These renderings, created by Vladimir Gololobov, provide a taste of one direction Nissan designers may go. In creating this angular concept, the designer has taken inspiration from the current GT-R as well as the 2020 Vision Gran Turismo concept revealed a couple of years ago. Up front, the GT-R presented is dominated by vertical headlights that are seamlessly incorporated into a pair of angular wheel arches. There is also a hood which sits lower than the arches as well as large openings on either side of the front grille to aid in cooling while helping to increase downforce at the front axle. Believe it or not, the R35 Nissan GT-R is 11 years old. It has enjoyed considerable success along the way, but after a decade, perhaps it’s time to up the ante. Nissan has already started working on designing and engineering an all-new platform for the next-generation GT-R. However, the carmaker has yet to decide how much electrification the car’s powertrain will get. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Nissan design boss Alfonso Albaisa told Autocar that the R36 won’t take cues from the limited-run GT-R50, but “has to be its own special car,” adding that it has to be “the fastest super sports car in the world” and retain a visual identity that’s unique among cars of its kind. While Albaisa constantly reviews sketches for the supercar, he said his team cannot begin ‘serious work’ until decisions about the powertrain and the new platform is finalised. “The challenge is on the engineer, to be honest. We will do our jobs … [Read more...] about Next Nissan GT-R to be fastest supercar in the world?
The GT-R and Italdesign both celebrate their 50th anniversary this year, so Nissan and the Italian design house decided to collaborate on a very special project. The result is the striking GT-R50 by Italdesign, a one-off build to celebrate all things GT-R as well as show off the talents of Italdesign's crew. Right off the bat we'll tell you that the GT-R50 isn't the next-generation R36 GT-R. That point was stressed by Nissan design boss Alfonso Albaisa, who described the car as a GT-R without limits. “Although this is not the next-generation GT-R, it is an exciting celebration of two anniversaries in a provocative and creative way—wrapping one of Nissan’s best engineering platforms and Japanese design with Italian coachbuilding,” he said in a statement.
