Williams releases footage of 2020 F1 car fire-up
Williams released footage on Tuesday of the new FW43 car being fired up at its factory in Oxfordshire in front of the team members, with founder and team principal Sir Frank Williams also present. The fire-up marks a significant milestone for Williams in the lead-up to testing after it started 2019 on the back foot, when it had failed to complete its car build on time. Williams missed the first two-and-a-half days of pre-season testing in Barcelona, setting the tone for a difficult campaign that saw it score just one point, finishing last in the constructors’ championship. The team will formally unveil the new FW43 car on February 17, releasing images on its digital channels, prior to the start of pre-season running at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya two days later. George Russell continues at Williams for a second season in 2020, but will be joined by a new teammate in Nicholas Latifi following his graduation from Formula 2. … [Read more...] about Williams releases footage of 2020 F1 car fire-up
Rolex 24: WTR wins shortened race as Alonso beats Nasr
Alonso and his teammates in the #10 Cadillac DPi-V.R , Renger van der Zande, Kamui Kobayashi and Jordan Taylor, were the prime beneficiaries of the worsening weather at the Florida circuit , which resulted in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season opener being red-flagged a second time with just under two hours to run. Following more than 90 minutes of inactivity, It was finally decided to abandon the race after 23 hours and 50 minutes, with efforts to clear standing water from the track proving fruitless. Shortly before the stoppage, two-time Formula 1 champion Alonso had taken the lead from the #31 Action Express Racing Cadillac of Felipe Nasr after the Brazilian ran wide at Turn 1. That turned out to be the decisive move of the race, with ex-F1 racer Nasr, his new fulltime IMSA teammate Pipo Derani and Eric Curran being forced to settle for second. Completing the podium was the #7 Acura ARX-05 of Helio Castroneves, Ricky Taylor and Alexander Rossi, … [Read more...] about Rolex 24: WTR wins shortened race as Alonso beats Nasr
McLaren explains lack of Mercedes branding
As the team revealed its new MCL35M at its Woking factory on Monday night, one notable absence from its newly tweaked livery was the famous three-pointed Mercedes star. The badge also does not feature on the overalls of Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris nor on the team wear of key personnel. While it seems slightly unusual for teams not to run the logo of their engine supplier, McLaren has explained that the absence is down to the outfit having a pure customer relationship with Mercedes – that does not extend as far as a marketing deal. It is a similar policy at Racing Point, which has not featured branding of the Mercedes badge despite it being one of its customers. At Williams, the logos do not appear on the car but do feature on the overalls of its drivers George Russell, who is a member of the Mercedes young driver programme, and Nicholas Latifi. Williams F1 completes FW43B shakedown at Silverstone
Williams announced earlier this month that it would launch its new car for the coming season on 5 March, but has opted to give it a first on-track test prior to its unveiling. In a teaser video posted to social media on Wednesday, Williams showed the FW43B car running at Silverstone in damp conditions, making it the second team known to have conducted a shakedown with its 2021 car. McLaren held a shakedown with its 2021 car at Silverstone on Tuesday after unveiling the MCL35M model one day earlier. Nicholas Latifi was shown watching teammate George Russell testing the car, with teams limited to just 100km of running under the filming day regulations, or equivalent to 17 laps of the Silverstone circuit. Although the car was blurred, it appeared to be running in a dark livery, straying away from the white design that was raced with last year. Williams has previously used a navy blue livery through pre-season before launching its race design for the start of the … [Read more...] about Williams F1 completes FW43B shakedown at Silverstone
