Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton said that Formula 1 can be like the NFL with the amount of people who are changing teams. As all 10 teams go to battle on the track, there is an army of personnel at each team making that possible, and these days, the people have an even more important role to play. With a budget cap now active in Formula 1, it means that the talent level within the team’s personnel, rather than the size of their budget, is key. It is no surprise then that the teams are constantly battling to bring the best people onboard, and Hamilton says this leads to changing faces on a regular basis. Recently Red Bull brought in a chunk of staff from Mercedes for Red Bull Powertrains, while Aston Martin’s recruitment drive has seen them snatch several people from Red Bull, including their former head of aero Dan Fallows, who is now Aston Martin technical director. “In my team there are 2000 people,” Hamilton said in a UBS/Mercedes interview. “It is actually over 2000 … [Read more...] about Lewis Hamilton likens in-team ‘silly season’ to NFL player trading

Texans free agents: Which 49ers could follow DeMeco Ryans to Houston?
While the buzz surrounding the Houston Texans ' hire of DeMeco Ryans is still alive and well in the Bayou City, there are also several questions facing the franchise as it starts an exciting new era. The most immediate area to address is the coaching staff, which will likely start to fill out in the coming days and weeks. Several potential candidates, which we dove into earlier this week , have already emerged at the offensive and defensive coordinator spots. But looking beyond the present, there will also be opportunities down the road for Ryans to bring connections of his to Houston. A Defensive Rookie of the Year and two-time Pro Bowler during his playing career with the Texans from 2006-11, Ryans has spent the past six seasons on the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff —including the past two as defensive coordinator. And as it could in his search for assistant coaches, his time in the Bay Area may prove fruitful when free agency arrives. A cast of 49ers players … [Read more...] about Texans free agents: Which 49ers could follow DeMeco Ryans to Houston?
How a Tom Brady-loving grandma inspired the making of ’80 for Brady’
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 If you watched the NFL playoffs over the past month, you couldn't have missed the trailer for "80 for Brady," the new comedy starring Sally Field, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Lily Tomlin about a group of friends who travel to Super Bowl LI in Houston to see their hero, then-New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. In one locker room scene from the gag-filled trailer, Fonda's character tells former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski he's "so big," which might have left you wondering: How the Gronk did this movie get made? It's a charming story, really, and it wouldn't have been possible without 94-year-old Betty Pensavalle, who began gathering with a tightknit group of friends in their Massachusetts neighborhood south of Boston to faithfully watch Brady and the Patriots on TV every Sunday almost two decades ago. In October 2018, Pensavalle's grandson Max Gross, a talent agent at … [Read more...] about How a Tom Brady-loving grandma inspired the making of ’80 for Brady’
Mahomes-Hurts matchup rep Texas prep QBs on Super Bowl stage
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 6 DALLAS (AP) — Texas high school quarterbacks guru Todd Dodge got what he wanted when Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts of Philadelphia won their conference championship games. “I really like Joe Burrow,” Dodge said with a chuckle in reference to Cincinnati's star quarterback, “but I'm not going to root for Joe Burrow over Patrick Mahomes, that Texas quarterback.” The Mahomes-Hurts matchup is the first showdown between a pair of Texas high school signal QBs and the latest milestone for a football-crazy state once known much more for Earl Campbell and Eric Dickerson than whoever was handing off to those future Pro Football Hall of Fame running backs. Dodge, a recently retired high school coach who won seven state championships, played a big role in the start of the transformation around 1980. He was the quarterback for what he considered the father of … [Read more...] about Mahomes-Hurts matchup rep Texas prep QBs on Super Bowl stage
George Russell discusses lack of F1 privacy as fame comes as career consequence
George Russell used the example of his Mick Schumacher radio comments in Singapore as proof there is zero privacy in F1. Mercedes driver Russell collided with Haas racer Schumacher at Turn 1 during the 2022 Singapore GP, a difficult outing for Russell as he lapped outside of the points at that stage. His “Schumacher is defending like it’s the race of his life, crikey” comment did not sit well with some, Russell believing that now that he is competing with a front-running team, it shows that nothing is safe from the public. This then is a fact which he is working to grow accustomed to, as his dream was always to be a racing driver, not to be famous. “These are things that are part of the experience when you are at the front,” said Russell, as per Motorsportweek.com. “Everything is under the microscope and that kind of comment last year [in 2021] would not have been picked up on. “But I think there are two parts of it: one, it’s fighting your case; but two, it’s you just … [Read more...] about George Russell discusses lack of F1 privacy as fame comes as career consequence
