She and her husband would buy in bulk and make bag lunches at home. So the free school meals that were made available to students nationwide amid the crisis have brought welcome relief, especially since her husband lost his job last year at a bakery company that closed. The free meals gave the Essex Junction, Vermont, family one less thing to worry about. “We make just too much money (literally by just a few dollars) to qualify for free or reduced lunches and other food-related benefits, but not enough to truly ever feel financially comfortable,” Murphy, a mother of four and administrator at a trust company, said by email. The pandemic-era federal aid that made school meals available for free to all public school students — … [Read more...] about Families brace for changes to pandemic-era free school meals

In my darkest hours, my family has always been my light
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 Joy is what lights us up. I've come to know it through a variety of means - dancing, music, hiking, food, movies, karaoke, dodgeball, writing, meditation, connection. Each of these brings a spark to my life that feeds my spirit and sustains me. That's not to say joy comes easy, though. Every day requires real effort, intention and commitment for me to attain it. My attempts aren't always successful, but I keep at it because I'm worth it. I believe that now. I haven't always. As a Samoan, I come from a community that is rampant with homophobia and other conservative values. Thankfully, my mum, dad and two siblings didn't push any of these views in our home in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Even so, coming out in 2017 at the age of 32 was difficult. I feared judgment from other Pacific Islanders, and, above all, I was terrified of embarrassing my loved ones whom I sought so hard to make … [Read more...] about In my darkest hours, my family has always been my light
Silverstone upgrade vital after Aston Martin’s poor pace in Barcelona – Krack · RaceFans

Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Aston Martin introduced a drastic upgrade to its AMR22 at the Spanish Grand Prix, yet neither of the team’s drivers were able to progress beyond Q1 that weekend. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free The AlphaTauri driver has managed just three points-scoring finishes so far this year and lies 11th in the standings after nine races. “I get nightmares when I see how many points we’ve lost since the start of the year with different incidents and mistakes we did,” he said in Canada. As the AT03’s competitiveness has varied significantly from race to race, Gasly says the team need to be prepared to take what they can get at each round. “I just want to go back on Sunday night after every single race being happy with the job and the performance we’ve showed and that’s the most important [thing],” he said. “If it’s good enough for P5, then we’ve got to be P5, it’s good enough for P9, then we’ve got to do P9. “At times maybe we don’t have performance and we need to settle for P12, but at least we feel that we have … [Read more...] about F1: ‘I get nightmares over how many points we’ve lost’ – Gasly · RaceFans
