There's a new infotainment system on the way, too. Big changes are afoot for the Lexus lineup, according to the brand's National Dealer Advisory Council Chairman John Iacono in an interview with Automotive News . Not only are new products on the way, but some much-needed tech changes are on the horizon. Iacono said that Lexus' vehicle introduction cadence wasn't what dealers wanted over the past two years. They needed more updates to the brand's lineup. Now, that's changing. "We've had SUVs that we've been asking for that we have gotten the thumbs up on, and they recently showed us some coming products that I really can't expand on, but that we are very, very enthusiastic about," Iacono told Automotive News . The AlphaTauri tweaks the team tried to hide
However, this year, both of Red Bull's teams have gone the extra mile to try to keep things out of the public eye as much as possible. In Red Bull's case, it deliberately did not release any images of its new RB16B when it conducted a filming day shakedown at Silverstone last week. And sister team AlphaTauri appears to have tried to keep secret the details of a front suspension overhaul by the launch images of its car showing something completely different. Having admitted in its press material that it had spent tokens on changing its front suspension, the images of the AT02 that were released did not feature these new parts. However, any subterfuge the team planned was short lived, as outside sources were able to capture images of the AT02 as the team conducted a shakedown and filming day at Imola and we could get a proper glimpse of the elements they did not want us to see. Supercars: Mount Panorama 500 was a one-off
The Mountain hosted a sprint round to open the 2021 season last weekend, with a pair of 250-kilometre single-driver races won by Shane van Gisbergen. It was the first time the famous circuit had been used for a single-driver Supercars race in a quarter of a century. It could be the last for a while too, with Supercars not planning to revive the event in 2022 or beyond. The MP500 was a direct reaction to the pandemic, with the Supercars-owned Bathurst 12 Hour unable to go ahead due to Australia's tough border controls . That freed up an event slot at Mount Panorama and opened the door for Supercars to re-negotiate with the New South Wales state government after the 2020 Newcastle 500 was called off because of the health crisis. The outcome was a single-driver race at Bathurst to open this season, with Newcastle set to return as the season-opener in 2022 . According to Supercars CEO Sean Seamer the Newcastle deal means the Mount Panorama 500 won't return, … [Read more...] about Supercars: Mount Panorama 500 was a one-off
SRT “seemed more upset” than Yamaha at 2020 MotoGP title loss
Fabio Quartararo was Yamaha’s leading rider for much of the 2020 season, with his three victories keeping him in the lead of the championship until the Aragon Grand Prix when a front tyre pressure issue dropped him to a career-worst 18th. From that point, Quartararo’s title hopes quickly evaporated and he ended the campaign eighth in the standings. Yamaha’s hopes of the constructors’ championship were also severely affected by a loss of 50 points handed to it as punishment for running illegal engines at the season-opening Spanish GP – the Japanese marque losing out to Ducati by 17 points in the finale in Portugal. Asked about rumours of disharmony between SRT and Yamaha last year, Razali confirmed his team felt as if it was just a “paying customer” rather than a works-supported partner. But tensions have since been diffused as Yamaha “recognised” SRT’s concerns and a the first draft of a new proposal covering 2022-2026 has been tabled. “We have addressed that … [Read more...] about SRT “seemed more upset” than Yamaha at 2020 MotoGP title loss
