Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 In the wake of Hulu's series "Pam and Tommy," it feels apt for Pamela Anderson to tell her story without talk show hosts interjecting jokes about her breasts. Coinciding with the release of Anderson's memoir, "Love, Pamela," the documentary "Pamela, a Love Story" strips Anderson down without sexualizing her, something that has been woefully missing from her narrative. Years of the "Baywatch" star's diaries, VHS tapes and personal photos provide unpolished snapshots of her life, leaving audiences with a rough portrait of the person behind the packaging. Director Ryan White ("Good Night Oppy") pieces together Anderson's life chronologically, though all roads seem to lead back to her ex-husband Tommy Lee. Their short-lived relationship blemishes so much of Anderson's story, which is punctuated by comments from the pair's two adult sons. It's not a happy story. Rather, it's the … [Read more...] about New movies to stream this week: ‘Pamela, a Love Story’ and more

AlphaTauri engineer highlights Pierre Gasly’s ‘fair’ to say problem with the new gen cars
Declaring last year’s AT03 to be “more peaky” that its predecessor, AlphaTauri’s head of trackside engineering Jonathan Eddolls believes there were times Pierre Gasly tried too hard and it “bit him”. Gasly was undoubtedly one of the stars of the 2021 Formula 1 season, the Frenchman on the podium in Azerbaijan, scoring 15 points that day towards his overall total of 110 that put him P9 in the drivers’ standings. It had pundits calling for Red Bull to give him a second chance alongside Max Verstappen. The team stood firm on their decision not to promote him again, Gasly spending 2022 with AlphaTauri. But unlike in 2022, he didn’t shine as he struggled to get a handle on his ground effect aerodynamic AT03. He scored just 23 points, suffering the biggest deficit compared to the previous season of any driver except Lewis Hamilton. PlanetF1 recommends F1 teams have ‘issues’ with ‘personal style of leadership of Mohammed Ben Sulayem’ Fernando Alonso’s message: ‘I will not … [Read more...] about AlphaTauri engineer highlights Pierre Gasly’s ‘fair’ to say problem with the new gen cars
GM And Netflix Partner To Promote EVs, Super Bowl Ad Will Kick Off Effort
The next time you start a Netflix show, it might have a new star on screen – an EV. General Motors and Netflix are partnering to “give electric vehicles the stage they deserve,” and that means putting GM’s EVs in some of the entertainment service’s most popular shows and movies. GM and Netflix will launch a commercial during this year’s Super Bowl on February 12 to kick off the campaign. Will Ferrell, who has starred in previous GM commercials , is back, this time exploring the worlds of Netflix’s most recent fan-favorite shows. The two short teasers GM released ahead of the complete commercial have the actor asking for directions from a zombie inside Army of the Dead and have him getting philosophical in the backseat of the new Blazer EV with a lowly Squid Game worker in the driver’s seat. “Entertainment has a huge impact on culture,” said GM Global Chief Marketing Officer Deborah Wahl. “We want to make EVs famous on streaming, small and silver screens to build an … [Read more...] about GM And Netflix Partner To Promote EVs, Super Bowl Ad Will Kick Off Effort
Astronomers film bizarre spiral glowing above Hawaii’s night sky
Astronomers recently spotted an unusual glowing object swirling in the night sky over Maunakea, Hawaii and have the video to prove it. The Subaru Telescope on Maunakea, which is operated by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) and National Institutes of Natural Sciences, recently captured a "mysterious flying spiral" above the island chain in the early morning hours of Jan. 18. "It was a really unusual view," astronomers wrote in a video on the telescope's YouTube channel. In the footage, a bright blue spinning spiral suddenly appears among stars and various satellites over the Aloha State telescope. "At first it was just a small dot at the left center of the view," the caption reads. "Then it ejected an arc-like feature. It became slightly larger. A bright dot appeared in the blob, then it grew into a spiral." On Jan 18, 2023 (HST), the Subaru-Asahi Star Camera captured a mysterious flying spiral over Maunakea, Hawai`i. The spiral seems to be related to … [Read more...] about Astronomers film bizarre spiral glowing above Hawaii’s night sky
Report: FBI investigating Santos fundraiser for sick dog
NEW YORK (AP) — Federal authorities are investigating a military veteran's claim that U.S. Rep. George Santos raised $3,000 for life-saving surgery for his pet dog several years ago, then never turned over the money for the animal's care, according to a published report. U.S. Navy veteran Richard Osthoff told Politico on Wednesday that two FBI agents contacted him after he went public last month with his story about his experiences with Santos in 2016. Osthoff told the news site he gave the agents text messages he exchanged with Santos, who at the time was going by the name Anthony Devolder. “I’m glad to get the ball rolling with the bigwigs,” Osthoff said. “I was worried that what happened to me was too long ago to be prosecuted.” The local news site Patch reported last month that Osthoff, now 47, was living in a roadside tent in Howell, New Jersey, in May 2016 when his pit bull mix, Sapphire, developed a life-threatening stomach tumor. A veterinary technician connected … [Read more...] about Report: FBI investigating Santos fundraiser for sick dog
Natasha Lyonne soars in ‘Poker Face.’ If only the mysteries did.
Rian Johnson's 2019 mystery "Knives Out" features an unlikely but convenient fact: The protagonist vomits whenever she lies. This advisedly clunky emphasis on fibs and their detection is something of a Johnson trademark. One non-villainous character in his 2022 Netflix film "Glass Onion," for instance, indicts some others with a tellingly ornate accusation: "You would lie for a lie, but you won't lie for the truth." The point isn't honesty, exactly; Johnson's approach is a little more complex. "Poker Face," Johnson's new Peacock series, takes this preoccupation - and the director's longtime love of mysteries and detectives - to its logical conclusion. Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne), the amateur sleuth in this case-of-the-week procedural, is a human lie detector. The show, which debuted last week, is delightful, nostalgic, surprising and funny. Animated by quick and effective world-building, it uses Lyonne's particular star power to great effect. As detective fiction, however, … [Read more...] about Natasha Lyonne soars in ‘Poker Face.’ If only the mysteries did.
Kick off Black History Month in Houston with this series of acclaimed indies
Autumn Johnson was an intern at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston when she stumbled, last summer, upon a largely unsung classic of Black independent cinema. Alma's Rainbow , written and directed by Ayoka Chenzira, originally opened in 1994, and had largely fallen out of the limelight until last year, when a new 4K DCP restoration began making the art-house and rep theater rounds. “I liked the film, but what really impressed me was the director’s background,” says the San Antonio-born Johnson, a recent University of Houston graduate. “I was like, 'I’ve never heard of her before. Like, how has she not been on my radar?'” Learning about Alma's Rainbow inspired Johnson to look for other indie films made by women of color. “I really did a lot of research one day in the office,” she says. “And I sent a little pitch email to Marian [Luntz, MFAH’s film curator] saying, ‘I don’t really see room for this film in the coming months, but I would love to see it featured for something … [Read more...] about Kick off Black History Month in Houston with this series of acclaimed indies

Farrell Penguin Press. 738 pp. $40 - - - In his 47 years in the United States Senate - from the high promise of his brother Jack's presidency to the hard slog of Barack Obama's first months in the White House - Edward M. Kennedy accomplished as much as anyone who ever served in that body. During that half-century, Kennedy's large extended family was at the center of a cascade of unimaginable tragedies, including his brothers' assassinations, his near-fatal plane crash, cancer diagnoses for two of his children, divorce, drug addiction, sex scandals and the premature deaths of several other relatives. Perhaps most important, Ted Kennedy emerged after his brother Robert's death in 1968 as the chief torchbearer of American liberalism, even as it came under attack from an insurgent political right. General Motors Has No Plans To Reduce EV Prices After Tesla And Ford
General Motors won’t be following Tesla and Ford in lowering the prices of its electric vehicles. The Detroit-based automaker doesn’t feel the need to. Company CEO Mary Barra said during the automaker’s earnings call this week that the company was confident in its prices. With more automakers launching new electric vehicles, competition is heating up as companies fight for customers in the small yet growing battery-electric-vehicle segment. In mid-January, Tesla slashed prices for every model in its lineup , and the automaker didn’t just shave off a few pennies. The Model Y Long Range had a 20 percent cut from its price tag, dropping from $65,990 to $52,990. The Model 3 had up to 14 percent cut from its price, while the Model S and Model X also saw their prices fall by up to $10,000 and $21,000 depending on the trim. Tesla cut prices to induce demand, and it seems to have worked . Gallery: 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV 42 Photos … [Read more...] about General Motors Has No Plans To Reduce EV Prices After Tesla And Ford
