Brutal Crash Ensues Police Chase In New Orleans
A 21-year old man was arrested in connection with a dramatic car crash that occurred last week in New Orleans, Louisiana. According to NOLA, troopers attempted to stop the vehicle around 10:10 PM for failure to display tags properly. The driver however refused to stop and eventually ran a red light at St. Claude and Elysian Fields avenues, which resulted in him hitting another vehicle before making contact with a pole, flipping over. The driver did manage to flee on foot temporarily, with police attempting to immobilize him using a taser. He was later apprehended by troopers and identified as 21-year old Bickett Theophile. Charges brought against him are as follows: aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer by flight, reckless driving and a hit and run. Apparently, he also had an active warrant out for second-degree battery, and was previously booked on allegations of theft. State Police said that both the suspect as well as the driver of the other vehicle, one Elise … [Read more...] about Brutal Crash Ensues Police Chase In New Orleans
New Orleans resident keeps getting speeding tickets for his parked car
Speed cameras have dipped below the surface of the news cycle, yet the programs often remain a nuisance. New Orleans resident Donald Schultz provides the latest example of municipal malfeasance: A speed camera has issued at least ten speeding citations since 2011 to the Nissan Frontier that Schultz parks in front of his house. A car doing more than the posted 35-mph limit triggers the camera, located in the median of Canal Boulevard, but the camera reads the stationary Frontier's license plate instead of the one on the speeding vehicle. The issue has been a seven-year hassle for Schultz because he has to go to City Hall to get each ticket overturned. He told Fox News, "It got so bad that years ago I even had a [telephone] number of a person [in the traffic violations office] so that if I called them directly I didn't have to go down there." The problem ended for a time - in 2016 a contractor repositioned the speed camera away from Schultz's car. When city workers moved the camera back … [Read more...] about New Orleans resident keeps getting speeding tickets for his parked car
A Speed Camera In New Orleans Keeps Ticketing This Guy’s Parked Car
Traffic cameras are bad. They are almost always naked schemes to raise government revenue, as opposed to devices that are intended to improve safety and driver behavior. Sometimes, though, they are bad for simpler reasons, like a traffic camera in New Orleans that has been giving speeding tickets to parked cars. The camera in question is on Canal Boulevard in the city’s Lakeview neighborhood, according to WWL. The camera mistakenly snapped the photo of resident Donald Schulz’s license plate on his 2017 Nissan Frontier nearly a dozen times since 2011, instead of, he says, the actual speeding car rolling by. Schulz says he’s successfully gotten the tickets overturned, but each time it’s a trip to city hall. More troubling, the tickets were authorized by actual humans. From WWL: NOPD officers signed off on these tickets before sending the fines out. “Whoever is responsible for reviewing these violations is not doing their job,” Schulz said. The City … [Read more...] about A Speed Camera In New Orleans Keeps Ticketing This Guy’s Parked Car
