Lynk & Co, the Geely venture involving Volvo-built cars that are always connected to the internet, you unlock with your phone, you can somehow share with strangers and a bunch of other buzzword-slathered and perhaps not completely thought out ideas, has a new concept car. It’s a sedan this time, and, keeping to their minimal naming convention, is called the 03. British sports carmaker Lotus will bring two new sports cars in 2020 with an SUV right behind them in 2021 or '22, becoming the brand's first all-new vehicles since it began production of the Evora back in 2009.CAR Magazine reports the news in an interview with Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales. Of the two cars, he said only that one will be a replacement for an existing car, with the other likely to be a limited-edition, track-focused car slotted above the Evora. It'll base the cheaper of the two on an evolution of Lotus' bonded aluminum chassis, while the other will get a new carbon-fiber chassis and become the brand's new performance flagship.Geely, which also owns Volvo, purchased a majority ownership stake in Lotus last year, adding what's hoped to be a measure of stability and badly needed investment to years of ownership changes and endless re-iterations of existing models. This is the Detroit auto show, right? So where are the concept cars -- the crazy, cool, or maybe clunky and clumsy experimental vehicles we used to have so much fun either faulting or falling in love with?Isn't Detroit supposed to positively detonate with ideas? If Tokyo's concepts were wacky and Geneva's gaudy, Detroit's were always brawny and brazen; head-turners like the Cadillac Sixteen.Where are the Cadillac and Chevy concepts of days gone by? Or maybe something fun and fashionable from Ford. Yes, Jeep does its Moab concepts each year, but why not some kind of conversation starter in Detroit, like the Gladiator of 2005?Nissan and Infiniti gave us two real concepts -- the Nissan Xmotion and the Infiniti Q Inspiration -- so a tip of the hat to the group's new design chief, Alfonso Albaisa.Lexus gave us the LS-1 Limitless, and Chinese maker GAC trotted out the Enverge crossover concept as it prepares to cross over the Pacific to our shores.Of course, all-out concept vehicles have … [Read more...] about Where are the cool concept cars in Detroit?
