Land Rover's latest offering, the Range Rover Velar, has been spied testing a more track oriented performance version of the SUV. The car is expected to be the Range Rover Velar SVR from Jaguar-Land Rover's Special Vehicles Operations division (SVO). The Range Rover Velar, which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show this year, bridges the gap between the Range Rover Sport and the Range Rover Evoque, in the brand's product line-up. The Velar SVR was spied testing at the Nurburgring by our Italian partners Quattroroute. Images of the vehicle reveal minimal differences due to heavy camouflage all around the vehicle. However, some technical and aerodynamic changes can be identified. The Range Rover Velar itself takes the game of modernity to another level with its styling, technology, performance and engineering. The SVR is expected to take the performance level of the vehicle a step further. The changes on the exterior of the car, visible from the images reveals new front air intakes which … [Read more...] about Range Rover Velar SVR spied testing at the Nurburgring
Hyundai has officially opened its brand new European testing facility at the iconic Nurburgring in Germany. After an investment of 15 months time and 6.6 million euros, the purpose-built vehicle testing facility along the trackside has finally been inaugurated facilitating further R&D operations in Europe. This new testing facility provides the company with full time access to the iconic Nurburgring circuit allowing it to scrutinise and improvise the durability and driving dynamics of the vehicles more effectively. Hyundai’s new European test centre encompasses nearly 40,000 square feet of floor space on four levels in a glass and steel building that houses workshops, offices and hospitality areas. Acting as an extension of Hyundai’s European R&D centre in Russelsheim, Germany, the Nurburgring test centre will allow Hyundai to conduct more regular and rigorous testing around the 170 corners and 20.8 kms of tarmac that make up the iconic track. Each of the Hyundai … [Read more...] about Hyundai Starts Testing At Nurburgring, Signs Of Things To Come?
Our spy photographers have caught the upcoming 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 undergoing testing at the Nürburgring race track in Germany and it’s looking more sinister than the already potent 650-hp Corvette Z06. Up front, the prototype features larger lower air intakes that also give it an angry, more menacing look compared to the standard Corvette Stingray and Z06 models. The front splitter appears to be more aggressive and extends further, similar to the one that comes as part of the Z07 package for the Z06 and Grand Sport variants. Key differences in this Corvette ZR1 prototype versus Corvette models that are currently on sale include the massive wing on the back, which should help create downforce to keep the car planted, and what could possibly be a standard removable carbon fiber roof. The rear end appears to be similar to the Z06 save for that aforementioned twin-stanchion rear wing in place of the black wickerbill spoiler found on the Z06, Grand Sport, and Stingrays … [Read more...] about 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Spied Testing at the Nurburgring | Automobile Magazine
The current-generation Lexus LS has been around from 2007, while its facelift arrived in 2012. Four years on from that, the next-generation iteration of the car that started it all for the Lexus brand has been spied testing, still with plenty of concealment. This is a very big sedan which appears to be growing bigger still, and our spy photographer source suggests as much; underpinned by the GA-L platform which also forms the basis of the LC coupe, the new limousine is expected to have a wheelbase in excess of 3,000 mm. As a reference, the current model measures 5,210 mm long by 1,875 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2,970 mm. The test mule’s relatively low nose and sharp front end hint at the new model’s sleek looks, already previewed by the LF-FC concept show last year. Under the hood, the standard LS recipe of a naturally-aspirated V8 – in this case, the 467 hp, 527 Nm 5.0 litre V8 from the LC 500 is a likely option – and a hybrid offering is expected, … [Read more...] about SPYSHOTS: Next-generation Lexus LS spotted testing
As we reported earlier, the BMW Concept M4 GTS had just been revealed at the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and apparently, a production version of the concept will soon be rolling out in the guise of its racetrack-tuned predecessors such as the BMW M3 CRT, M3 GTS and M3 CSL. Now we have a slew of images of the M4 GTS being flogged around the Nurburgring track, and it does look pretty special. There is a splitter on the front bumper with an orange lining, which looks akin to the Acid Orange accents that were featured on the concept car that debuted at Pebble Beach, and the rims seem to get the same treatment as well. For some reason, the huge carbon fibre wing at the rear just seems like it was an afterthought, but it should play a role in reducing rear axle lift at much higher speeds. In terms of the power plant under the carbon fibre reinforced plastic bonnet, there is no confirmation of anything different from the 3-litre inline 6-cylinder twin turbo engine that is … [Read more...] about SPIED: BMW M4 GTS spotted testing at Nurburgring

Share Facebook Tweet Pinterest Email Lexus hybridized its 2018 LS 500 sedan at the Geneva auto show, adding an “h” to the name. The company says the car's lightweight, lithium-ion battery is 20 percent smaller than the outgoing LS 600h but with a higher power density. The LS 500h features the new Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System featuring a 3.5-liter V6 and two electric motors, for a total system output of 354 hp. The sprint to 60 mph takes just 5.4 seconds with everything working together, including the "four-stage shifting device" (not sure why it’s not called a transmission). This contraption is added to the hybrid drive system, giving the "D" range "... a simulated shift control pattern that delivers the feel of driving with a 10-speed gearbox. “In a conventional full hybrid vehicle, engine output is boosted by the electric motor via a reduction gear, but with the new Multi Stage Hybrid System, the power from the V6 engine and the hybrid battery can be … [Read more...] about 2018 Lexus LS 500h revealed at Geneva motor show
An all-new Lexus LS hybrid will make its debut in at the Geneva auto show next month as the fifth-generation flagship attempts to regain lost ground among full-size luxury sedans. And the model designation of the new hybrid, LS500h, indicates a change of tactic for Lexus. Toyota won’t yet say what’s powering the LS500h, but given how much the new LS shares with the 2018 LC coupe, we’ll bet our Nakamichi tape decks that this car will use the LC500h’s Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V-6, two electric motor/generators, and a four-speed planetary gearset that manages to mimic both a conventional 10-speed automatic transmission and a continuously variable automatic (CVT). Total net horsepower in the 2018 LC500h stands at 354, which is down from the 2018 LS500‘s 415 and the previous LS600hL‘s 438 hp. The old LS hybrid was the sole Lexus hybrid to rock a V-8, and it really didn’t improve performance or fuel economy over the standard LS430. We also see the … [Read more...] about No L: New Lexus LS Hybrid Is the LS500h
Posted on 10.14.2013 18:00 by TB + If the new Stingray has really been to chassis and charm school for 2014, what about the equally-exciting 2014 Camaro Z28? With tires from a steamroller and a soundtrack to match, the Camaro is faster than ever with its refreshed aerodynamics and electronics for 2014. What Chevrolet shows in this high-resolution video is a single brave driver challenging the ultimate proving ground, the north circuit of the Nurburgring. For give the lack of ’umlat dots’ over the U - this is breaking news. An insider tip gives TopSpeed the jump on this story, which is sure to be huge news. Not sure what size shoes this driver wears, or how he became so brave on the dizzing array of corners, elevation changes, and ultimate blaring high-speed run down the back straight. The headline is the time achieved by the Z28 in these damp conditions. A 7:37:47 is a major accomplishment for the Z28, easily lopping 30 seconds off what a similar SS could achieve before … [Read more...] about 2014 Camaro Z28 Nails 7:38 At Nurburgring In Misty Weather
Filed under: Lexus sedan Spy Shots and Renderings Lexus LS luxury cars Posted on 09.19.2011 12:00 by Simona What started off as an F-Sport package for a few of Lexus’ models may just be taking off into a full line of sporty offerings from the luxury automaker. At first it was the Lexus IS-F getting all of the attention and then it was announced that the recently launched GS350 would also be getting its own F-version . Now, a new prototype caught testing at the Nurburgring is raising some eyebrows, particularly ours. This sporty looking ride taking some test laps looks a bit like the luxury LS sedan, possibly in an F version. It was seen with Toyota Cologne plates and was stationed at the Toyota/Lexus garage at the Nürburgring which points to a true model variation and not the work of an aftermarket tuner. So why an F version for the Lexus LS? Well, Lexus has been making some aggressive moves towards targeting the sportier models of its main competitors, … [Read more...] about Spy Shots: Mystery Lexus LS Spied Testing At Nurburgring
Posted on 04.17.2014 19:00 by Ciprian Florea + Ever since the LaFerrari was unveiled at last year’s Geneva Motor Show , Ferrari aficionados have been dreaming about a track-exclusive version of the ultra-fast hybrid. Something in the vein of the FXX , an Enzo -based race car built in 30 units between 2005 and 2007 or even the F40 LM . It took the Italians more than a year to admit they will be building one, but they finally did it a couple of days ago , when Antonello Coletta, chief of Ferrari’s Sporting Activity Department, said LaFerrari race car with the "XX" moniker attached to its name is underway. The mule showed up at the Nurburgring track (where else?), wearing nothing but its carbon-fiber suit. Interestingly enough, there are no aerodynamic-enhancing parts attached to the body (yet), but the supercar is obviously fitted with lightweight polycarbonate windows, mandatory for any lightweight, race-spec vehicle. Lexus has introduced an all-new flagship saloon at the Detroit Motor Show in the form of the 2017 LS – an overhauled version of its largest saloon set to compete with the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The 2017 model gets a new platform and uses the latest Lexus design language, formed into a large four-door grand tourer shape including a huge trademark spindle grille with over 5,000 surfaces. The fastback, coupe shape is clearly influenced by the LF-FC Coupe concept car from 2015. The angular face is dominated by the grille, which boasts a unique mesh texture that appears to shape shift in different light. The angular front end contrasts with the swooping side profile, and over the rear wheels the broad shoulders of the concept translate into production form. In terms of dimensions it’s a bigger car all round, being longer than the previous LS at 5,235mm, lower at 1,450mm and wider at 1,900mm, including a wheelbase stretched to 3,125mm. • Detroit Motor … [Read more...] about New 2017 Lexus LS flagship stars at Detroit Motor Show
It’s possible that Lexus will never be able to make as big a splash as it did when the first LS400 made its debut at the 1989 Detroit auto show. Sure, the new LC coupe is ridiculously cool, and the RX crossover sells in big numbers, but no other vehicle in Lexus’s history has been as much a signal of intent as that original LS was. That’s the true power of a flagship, and Lexus is looking to recapture some of that same enthralling aura with the all-new 2018 Lexus LS500 sedan, debuting nearly three decades later. To re-establish the LS’s credentials in the segment it once upended, Lexus is making this fifth-generation luxury sedan larger, more powerful, and more stylish than ever before. The front end, with its prominent spindle grille and sharply angled front headlights, is mostly in keeping with Lexus’s current design language. But beyond that, the designers have taken a few more liberties with the car’s profile, introducing a flowing character … [Read more...] about 2018 Lexus LS: Once Again at the Top of Its Class?
A successor to the mighty Bugatti Veyron is under development, and our spies have caught two intriguing prototypes in early testing at the Nurburgring. It looks like Bugatti plans to up its game in the wake of rival hypercars like the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder arriving on the scene. While the black and brown test mule gives very little away besides a telemetry aerial stuck to the roof, the white car is altogether more mysterious. An aluminium structure is clearly visible protruding from the engine bay, suggesting some serious upgrades to the Veyron Super Sport’s 1,183bhp 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine are being applied. Wolfgang Schreiber, Bugatti’s CEO until Wolfgang Durheimer takes over on June 1 this year, has previously stated that the Veyron’s successor will be significantly more powerful, but whether it will feature a boosted version of the existing engine as some reports suggest, or a hybrid element will be added, is still the … [Read more...] about New Bugatti Veyron successor spied testing
With the 2013 Lexus LS, Toyota's luxury brand has something to solve. The perennial dogfight between BMW and Mercedes-Benz at the very top of their model ranges all but blots out most other competitors. Even Audi's A8 has difficulty gaining breathing room between the S-Class and the 7-Series; Jaguar's XJ isn't yet in the game, really. The LS hasn't quite made the upper echelon, either, despite the loud and clear warning signal it sent to those German brands back in 1989, when the first LS glided onto the scene. Faultless but characterless, that first Lexus exploded the idea that only expensive European sedans had birthright. Since then it's been a stable influence and a halo car, but not a total tactical success. It's one of the most reliable vehicles on the planet, but its reputation still sits in the shadow of the S-Class and the 7-Series, while the Lexus brand itself racks up hundreds of thousands of sales of RX crossovers and ES sedans. What to do? This year, there's an obvious … [Read more...] about 2013 Lexus LS First Drive and Video Road Test
What It Is: A prototype sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro that most likely previews the next-generation track-focused Camaro Z/28. The Camaro ZL1, with its 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 borrowed from the Corvette Z06, is the Camaro iteration all ate up with motor. This Z/28, as before, will be the Camaro that’s all ate up with eatin’ up, chewing, and spittin’ out racetracks. Just look at this camouflaged test mule’s borderline ridiculous aerodynamic add-ons, tires as wide as Kansas, and gaping air intakes all working toward a single purpose: keeping the Z/28 planted and cool while circling a track at abusive velocities. Is it possible that the prototype pictured here is some sort of club racer Chevrolet is developing? Yes, but the large-ish wheels, normal-looking side mirrors, and other conventional-looking details strongly dampen that prospect. Why It Matters: As Chevrolet fleshes out the sixth-generation Camaro lineup, it’s gradually turning out a bunch … [Read more...] about 2018 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Spied Assaulting the Nurburgring!

That seemingly that has been spotted lapping the Nurburgring these past few weeks now has a name, as well as some juicy details, thanks to a spied spec sheet. The has now been christened the TMG Edition, giving props to the company’s motorsports division, Toyota Motorsport GmbH. It’s hyped up engine and scorching numbers will come to fruition when the vehicle debuts at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show in December. According to the spied spec sheet, the Lexus LS-F TMG Edition will be powered by 5.0 L engine - quite possibly a higher displacement version of theLF-A’s V10 or a turbocharged version of the IS-F’s 5.0L V8. Whatever the engine, the LS-F will be pumping out 478 kW (650 PS, 641 HP) and 710 Nm of torque (523 lb-ft). Performance numbers are also listed as a 0-62 mph sprint of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph). So why an F version for the Lexus LS? Well, Lexus has been making some aggressive moves towards targeting the sportier models of its … [Read more...] about 2013 Lexus LS-F TMG Edition
The next generation Lexus LS will be revealed at the Detroit Motor Show in January. The news has been officially confirmed by the brand, ahead of the reveal next month. The introduction of the original LS took place at the same show in 1989, heralding the birth of the Lexus brand. Since then, the Toyota-owned manufacturer has utilised pioneering hybrid drivetrains across its range, shunning diesel power in its entirety. We'd already spotted the car testing ahead of its launch next year, but now Lexus has confirmed we'll see the car in the metal in the first few weeks of 2017. Lexus says it will feature "visionary technology", built on an extended version of the brand's new GA-L luxury vehicle global architecture – as seen on the new Lexus LC 500h. In addition to the spy shots, Lexus has issued a single cutaway image of the new car. It shows vital components such as the suspension and drivetrain, while also giving us a sneak peek of the LS's new front end. It looks to take its … [Read more...] about New Lexus LS to debut at 2017 Detroit Motor Show
