SAUSALITO, California—The heart of the dearly departed Ford Focus RS lives on here in the U.S. market, in the form of the 2020 Mustang 2.3-Liter High Performance Package—and it still beats like that of a race horse: Te amo! Ford sold more than 113,000 Mustangs globally last year and today there are nine different models to choose from—from a more affordable base 100a-package model up to, soon, the top-shelf Shelby GT500. The package at the heart of this story is available on Mustang EcoBoost coupes and convertibles and adds $4,995 to the sticker. There are also four new shades offered for 2020: Grabber Lime, Iconic Silver, Red Hot Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, and Twister Orange. Under the hood, the 2.3-Liter High Performance Package adds the Focus RS's sublime inline-four engine built in Valencia, Spain. The former hot-hatch powerplant is flipped 90 degrees to fit in the rear-drive pony car, and underwent several other revisions for this application. The EcoBoost range gets a humongous boost with the 2019 New York Auto Show debut of the Ford Mustang EcoBoost High Performance variant which churns out 330 hp of power. Remember that entry-level performance Mustang that we were talking about a few days ago? Well, the 2019 New York Auto Show witnessed the debut of that car – the Ford Mustang EcoBoost High Performance – and it’s going to make fans of the “affordable” Mustang range very happy. The High Performance Package adds all the necessary mods needed to make the otherwise tamer 4-cylinder-propelled Mustang EcoBoost a firecracker. The major highlight is of course that 2.3-liter detuned engine borrowed from the Ford Focus RS. Put together in Valencia, Spain and then shipped to Flat Rock so that it can nestle comfortably inside the engine bay of the 2020 model year Mustang, the engine boasts of a redesigned turbocharger. Ford has adjusted the power output in quite an interesting manner. The same unit … [Read more...] about 2019 New York Auto Show: 330 HP Ford Mustang EcoBoost High Performance Package
Phoebe Wall Howard Detroit Free Press Published 6:00 AM EDT Apr 16, 2019 For the record, the 2020 Ford Mustang designed to go 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph is meant for the regular guy. Or girl. An outraged caller to the Free Press demanded to know how the carmaker could possibly explain delivering so much power with so few cylinders — 330 horsepower with a four-cylinder engine. Gearheads apparently scoff at the idea of just four cylinders for a high-performance car. "This is indicative of where the industry is going, the idea of increasing power with smaller engines," said Karl Brauer, executive publisher at Kelley Blue Book. "It allows you to have more fuel efficiency and power at the same time. It's giving you the best of both worlds. And it's further proof that while you can't break the rules of physics, technology allows you to bend 'em." Who would choose a lighter Mustang over the heavier, more … [Read more...] about 2020 Ford Mustang goes 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds with four cylinders
If you ever felt like the base four-cylinder Mustang is in need of some mods to up the performance ante, then you might want to take a look at the 2020MY High Performance Package. Available on both the coupe and convertible, the package brings the Focus RS’ 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a few upgrades, including a redesigned turbocharger, albeit with less horsepower. The mill is put together in Valencia, Spain, before being shipped over to Flat Rock. As for the final result, the numbers to remember are 330 hp (335 PS / 246 kW) and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm), when running on premium fuel, which translates to 20hp more than the 310hp version of the 2.3L Ecoboost in the standard Mustang, and 20hp shy of the 350hp Focus RS, while torque remains unchanged in all three applications. Ford says the muscle car can sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) in the mid-four-second range, while top speed has increased by 10 mph (16 km/h), to 155 mph (250 km/h) over the previous EcoBoost … [Read more...] about 2020 Ford Mustang EcoBoost High Performance Package Brings Focus RS Engine, GT Upgrades
You’ll never see another one of these on the street.” This was the declaration of several Automobile staff members after they laid eyes on this peculiar 2019 Ford Mustang convertible test car.An exaggeration, perhaps, but the point was there: With jolting “Need for Green” paint, a soft top, Ford’s 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, the optional Performance Package, and a six-speed manual gearbox, the odds of seeing yourself coming in the other direction seem about as likely as Ford reversing course on its decision to all but abandon the passenger-car market. The Mustang, of course, will live on. And while it wasn’t obvious anywhere near immediately after putting key to ignition in this example, there’s something comfortable within that knowledge. What’s WrongThe first few days behind the wheel, spent mostly commuting in Los Angeles traffic, made it easy to focus on the car’s shortcomings. The mash-up of faux carbon … [Read more...] about The Ford Mustang EcoBoost Convertible Is a Strange Mustang Indeed
