Tickford locks in three-round Supercars wildcard
Randle, who spent the past year battling testicular cancer , has long been expected to make a number of wildcard starts this season as part of a multi-year deal he inked with the Ford squad last season. It's now been confirmed that he'll take part in three sprint rounds in a Tickford Mustang carrying backing from Castrol. Randle will make his first start for the season at The Bend next month, which will mark his second appearance at the South Australian circuit following his debut wildcard back in 2019. He'll return for the Darwin Triple Crown in June and round out the wildcard programme with the Perth SuperNight in September. Randle will then team up with one of the full-time Tickford drivers for the Bathurst 1000. “I am just absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to drive the Castrol Racing Ford Mustang for Tickford Racing at three events this season,” Randle said. “Tickford and Castrol have been huge supporters of my career thus far, and are … [Read more...] about Tickford locks in three-round Supercars wildcard
Supercars set to drop in-car roll bar adjustment
The move would come as part of wider push to simplify the cars and cut costs, with the entire front suspension package to fall under the list of control components under the Gen3 rules. A Supercars spokesperson told Motorsport.com that no firm decision has been made on anti-roll bar levers, however a number of teams have indicated they expect the adjustors to be dropped. The anti-roll bars will still be adjustable externally as part of the car set-up. In the current-spec cars, drivers are able to change both the front and rear anti-roll bars on the fly through hydraulic levers. That helps them trim the car to better adapt to changing fuel loads, tyre wear and/or track conditions throughout a race. Shane van Gisbergen is famous for his busy lever work even over the course of a single lap, the Kiwi often seen making multiple bar and brake bias adjustments in on-board footage. Cockpit controls are a controversial talking point right now as Supercars assesses … [Read more...] about Supercars set to drop in-car roll bar adjustment
Perez: Red Bull must keep taking F1 qualifying strategy risks
In recent seasons, Red Bull has selected contra-tyre strategy approaches in the middle phase of qualifying to try and gain an upper hand in race strategy versus Mercedes during the Black Arrows' years of dominance. This approach helped Red Bull beat Mercedes in 2020's 70th Anniversary Grand Prix – where Max Verstappen used tyres that were a step harder compared to the Mercedes cars to gain an early advantage. Last time out in Bahrain, where Red Bull confirmed its testing promise as having the fastest car so far in 2021, both teams attempted to get through to Q3 on the medium tyres to avoid running the delicate softs at the start of the race. Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas (as well as AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly) got through on the better race rubber, but Perez was eliminated in Q2 – eventually finishing fifth in the race after starting from the pitlane as a result of his car briefly switching off on the formation lap. When asked if such tactics were a … [Read more...] about Perez: Red Bull must keep taking F1 qualifying strategy risks
Pukekohe favourite to host Supercars in 2021
As it stands the event is simply listed as the Auckland SuperSprint on the calendar, with Supercars yet to formally declare if the races will take place at Pukekohe or Hampton Downs. Motorsport.com understands that Pukekohe is now the front-runner to host the Aussie series for its annual trip across the Tasman. That would align with the event's backing from Auckland Tourism, Events & Economic Development (ATEED), with Pukekohe in the Auckland local government region while Hampton Downs is in neighbouring Waikato. Pukekohe is the traditional home of Supercars in NZ, however a date bungle involving local legislation forced Supercars to move its proposed 2020 ANZAC Day event to Hampton Downs. That event was ultimately cancelled due to the global health crisis and strict border controls in both Australia and New Zealand. There's plenty of optimism around this year's event going ahead due to the recent announcement of a travel bubble between the two countries . … [Read more...] about Pukekohe favourite to host Supercars in 2021
