Rolls-Royce will today unveil its first SUV which could be the most important vehicle for luxury car-maker since its acquisition by BMW 20 year ago. At noon the covers will come off the 4x4 – called the “Cullinan” – officially launching one of the most anticipated, and quite probably most expensive, cars ever. The name comes from the largest diamond ever discovered and Tortsen Müller-Ötvös, chief executive of Rolls-Royce, has previously described the new car as being of “such clarity of purpose, such flawless quality and preciousness, and such presence that it recalibrates the scale and possibility of true luxury – just like the Cullinan diamond”. The new car has the potential to kick up Rolls’s sales and profits several gears. Last year the Goodwood-based manufacturer sold 3,362 vehicles, down on the 4,011 achieved in 2016, and a drop attributed to the end of the old top of the range Phantom limousine and gap … [Read more...] about Rolls-Royce to reveal its most important car in a generation with first off-road model
Long the preferred ride of the casual golf membership set, the Lexus ES enjoys a reputation of high reliability and very gradual change. Toss that cred out the window, as the 2019 ES undergoes what’s arguably the most significant revamp in its nearly three-decade-long history. Revealed Wednesday in Beijing, the new ES rides atop a platform shared with its fellow Kentucky-built stablemate, the Toyota Avalon, and grows in all the time-honored ways. It’s longer, lower, and wider than the outgoing version. More power and more speeds come to the sedan’s sole powertrain, while the body undergoes a transformation that takes years off (the age of its perceived driver). With this 2019 model, Lexus seems pretty determined to rid the ES of its longstanding image as a staid conveyance for those with high-performing mutual funds. How determined? There’s now, for the first time, an ES F Sport. Under the hood resides a familiar 3.5-liter V6, now generating 302 horsepower and … [Read more...] about 2019 Lexus ES: The Most Conservative Car in the Lexus Barn Lets Its Hair Down, Dons F Sport Label
Tweet TweetSome say it’s the most expensive auctioned car ever. Others don’t agree, as another item had been sold at a very close price two years ago. So, where is the truth? The truth is that the two most expensive cars in the world are made by Ferrari. Even more: nine cars in the top ten’s most expensive ever sold are Ferrari! Here are the facts: two days ago, at Artcurial Motorcars auction in Paris, a 1957 Ferrari 335S has been hammered for $35.7m. However, at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, in 2014, a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO had been sold for the biggest price ever: $38.1m. The $2.4m difference seems quite big, but the problem is that the Euro-USD exchange rate changed in the last two years. If we consider exchanging the USD in Euro at the time each car was sold, then the 335S would be the expensive car in the world, topping the 250 GTO by €3.6m. If you think there are only details, thing again: when you spend more than $30m on a car, you expect to get … [Read more...] about Is Ferrari 335s The Most Expensive Car In The World?
