After being retired from the catalogue last year, the Honda mini-bike is back, in the 2019 Honda Monkey, retailing at RM13,999. Shown to the Malaysian public at the Art of Speed 2018 show last July, the Monkey uses the Honda MSX 125 SF (approximately RM10,499), or Honda Grom, as its basis. Taking the 125 cc, air-cooled single-cylinder power plant from the MSX 125, the Monkey’s engine produces 9.6 hp at 7,000 rpm and 10.5 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. Power is delivered to the rear wheel via a four-speed gearbox and chain final drive. “Honda Monkey is a unique mini bike admired by its fan worldwide including Malaysia,” said Boon Siew Honda Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Keiichi Yasuda. “After months of its showcasing at many public exhibitions, we have received positive feedback on it hence our decision to offer this iconic model for the Malaysian market.” Honda Monkey 2018 Fuelling for the Monkey is with Honda’s PGM-FI and … [Read more...] about 2019 Honda Monkey mini-bike in Malaysia, RM13,999

After the announcement of the debut of the 2018 Honda Monkey, which is based on the Honda MSX125 or Grom, as it known in some markets, it appears that the Monkey will be coming to Malaysia soon, the question being when. This was said to paultan.org during an exclusive with Datuk Wira Tan Hui Jing, chairman of Boon Siew Honda. During the conversation at the 2018 Malaysian Autoshow in Serdang, Tan said there are plans to introduce the Monkey, but will depend on various factors such as pricing, approvals and government regulations. However, Boon Siew Honda’s plant in Batu Kawan, Penang, is ready to start assembly of the Monkey, said Tan. The new Monkey will use the air-cooled, single-cylinder which displaces 125 cc from the MSX and delivers a claimed 9.6 hp at 7,000 rpm and 11 Nm of torque at 5,250 rpm, fuelled by Honda’s PGM-Fi. Weighing in at 107 kg, the Monkey carries fuel in a 5.6-litre tank, closely styled to mimic the tank on the original Monkey. 2018 GL1800 … [Read more...] about 2018 Honda Monkey will be coming to Malaysia soon?
After stopping production of the iconic Honda Monkey, and its burly variant, the Gorilla, in 2017, Honda has announced the debut of the 2018 Honda Monkey mini bike, based on the current model Honda MSX125. In its original form, the Monkey was a 50 cc urban motorcycle that was designed back in 1961, before being brought to market in 1967. Building a loyal fan-base over the decades, the Monkey was discontinued last year, Honda citing difficulty in meeting emissions standards with the air-cooled, single-cylinder engine. However, the 2018 Monkey will use the underpinnings of the MSX125 – also known in some markets as the Grom – to build a brand new mini bike. The new Monkey will use the 125 cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder from the MSX, which is Euro 3 compliant and delivers a claimed 9.6 hp at 7,000 rpm and 11 Nm of torque at 5,250 rpm, fuelled by Honda’s PGM-Fi. Weighing in at 107 kg, the Monkey carries fuel in a 5.6-litre tank, closely styled to mimic the tank on the … [Read more...] about 2018 Honda Monkey set to debut, based on MSX125
