In its recent investor meeting in Italy, Fiat Chrysler dropped a number of bombshells, including this one: a new mid-size Ram model is coming for 2022. Is this finally the return of the dearly-departed Dakota? UPDATE UPDATE: A Ram spokesperson called us to confirm that the pickup is indeed coming to our golden shores. This post has been amended to reflect that. Fiat Chrysler has been out of the mid-size truck game since the 2011 departure of the Dakota, which at that point, had graced American roads with its rugged practicality for nearly 25 years. But recently, Ford hopped back into the segment with the return of the Ranger, and Chevy has been dialing up its Colorado with a diesel engine and a ZR2 off-road package. Now it looks like Ram wants in on the fun, announcing the launch of a mid-size truck for 2022: The slide above is from Fiat Chrysler’s “Capital Markets Day” presentation today, and it shows a veiled “new mid-size/metric ton” Ram truck slated … [Read more...] about Ram Is Planning A Mid-Size Truck For 2022, But It Might Not Be The Dakota We’ve Wanted
After launching the Jeep Compass in India last year, FCA Group plans to expand its presence in more high-volume UV segments. The company will launch a sub-4 metre Jeep SUV and a mid-size three-row Jeep SUV in our market. FCA Group knows that sub-4 metre SUVs dominate the Indian UV market. So, it has decided to bring a model of its own to significantly boost its sales. The Jeep sub-4 metre will slot below the Jeep Renegade, which is a premium B-SUV. FCA sees this model straddling the A and B segments globally. In India, Jeep’s new baby SUV will compete with the Maruti Vitara Brezza (and its Toyota-badged version), Ford EcoSport, Mahindra S201, Tata Nexon, and the Hyundai Carlino (TBA). The entry-level model is expected to share its platform with the next-gen Fiat Panda. No further details are available, but FCA Group has confirmed a plug-in hybrid variant. However, we don’t know whether that variant is planned for India or for other markets. Reports have said for months now … [Read more...] about Jeep sub-4 metre SUV and Jeep mid-size three-row SUV confirmed for India
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has confirmed that it will indeed bring the 2015 Ram TRX pickup to the production line alongside a new mid-size pickup, a new Heavy Duty version and a replacement to its ProMaster City small commercial van. Speaking in Italy at an event which saw Sergio Marchionne lay out his final plans for FCA, Ram brand head Mike Manley said the TRX will directly target the Ford F-150 Raptor. Ram asserts that one reason behind the TRX’s creation is to increase the marque’s average transaction price. According to Manley, average transaction prices of the F-150 Raptor are $28,000 above Ford’s average in the pickup segment. Ram wants in on the party. The automaker hasn’t announced any specifics other than the fact that the Rebel TRX will use a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine. According to reports, this will be the same mill as the Challenger Hellcat and Charger Hellcat and therefore deliver an equal 707 hp and 650 lb-ft. If this engine does indeed … [Read more...] about RAM’s 5-Year Plan Includes Rebel TRX To Fight F-150 Raptor, New Mid-size Pickup
Tweet TweetThe Chevrolet and the GMC have just announced the prices for their trucks, namely the 2015 Colorado and Canyon, which is a true hint that both automakers are trying to gain supremacy against the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma. We are talking about a “play ball” strategy that the GM is trying to pull, renouncing thus the old trick of keeping truck discounts low, in order to gain profitability. Mary Barra, the GM Chief Executive Officer, said in an interview that Chevrolet and GM must stick together in order to play the ball against Toyota and Nissan. On the other hand, Kenn Bakowski, the Canyon Marketing Manager said that the Canyon models are those vehicles that provide a lot premium features and technology, maneuverability and “inherent capabilities.” More than that, Tony Johnson, the Colorado marketing manager, also stated that the Colorado model is that mid-size truck capable of offering value and versatility to its customers. “It will … [Read more...] about Chevrolet and GM Claim the Crown for Mid-Size Truck Segment over Toyota and Nissan
