The Houston Rockets ' hopes of making a leap toward playoff contention look slimmer by the week as we roll through the 2022-23 season. Head coach Stephen Silas' squad dropped their 16th game of the season on Wednesday, a listless 120-100 affair in which Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić nearly put up a triple-double in 28 minutes. The Rockets were among the NBA's best teams less than a half decade ago. Reaching those heights again now feels like a distant fantasy. So, what are the biggest problems facing the Rockets—and what hope can we have for the franchise's future? Let's address the situation in our latest mailbag. When will we no longer be the worst team in the NBA? – Phillip Mueller The 2022-23 Rockets aren’t presently the single worst team in the NBA, with that honor going to Eastern Conference also-rans in Detroit and Orlando. But the spirit of Phillip's question remains fair. Houston should be favored to finish with the West’s worst record , and even passing … [Read more...] about Houston Rockets mailbag: What is the path back to contention?
Red Bull and Max Verstappen boycotted Sky Sports F1 after Ted Kravitz used the word “robbed” when referring to the 2021 title race. Kravitz has in the past made his feelings on the 2021 season finale well known, the British pit lane reporter saying at the time that then race director Michael Masi “gave” the title to Verstappen. He questioned whether it was a “conspiracy” , saying the “the ultimate question is ‘would Michael Masi have made the same decision had it been Max Verstappen in the lead on old, knackered hard tyres and Lewis Hamilton behind on fresh soft tyres?'” As recently as September when the Italian GP finished behind the Safety Car, he said: “Was it [Monza] a just result, in the way Abu Dhabi wasn’t ? Yes, it was a just result.” Verstappen is now over Kravitz questioning the validity of his 2021 title with the Red Bull driver refusing to speak to Sky Sports in Mexico – a boycott that was also followed by the entire Red Bull team themselves. PlanetF1 have … [Read more...] about Red Bull and Max Verstappen boycott Sky Sports after ‘robbed’ comments

Art cars can be an equally exciting and controversial endeavour . Throughout the years, the meeting of automotive and artistic minds has given us a number of special vehicles ranging from road machines all the way to Le Mans-winning race cars. Regardless, Porsche recently released an artful interpretation on its Taycan 4S. The German automaker joined forces with acclaimed American artist Richard Phillips to create an automotive work of art. With the all-electric sportscar standing in as the canvas, the project unsurprisingly took on a natural theme. For the art car, Phillips adapted his large-scale Queen of the Night painting – originally completed in 2010. Otmar Szafnauer says the F1 paddock used to joke that if Charles Whiting ever left his role as race director, the sport would need “at least three people” to replace him. Turned out that was the truth. Whiting was Formula 1’s long-time race director, a man respected by everyone in the paddock and one who knew his job inside and out. He played a massive role contributing towards improving safety standards, such as the introduction of Halo, as well as the inclusion of the HANS device and front and side impact structures. He sadly passed away on the eve of the 2019 season, F1 journalist Adam Cooper described him as the “perfect man for the difficult role of referee”. How much Formula 1 would miss him came to pass in the ensuing years. The Briton’s role went to Michael Masi, a tenure that was blighted by strange decisions but none more perplexing that his decision to allow only some of the lapped cars between race leader Lewis Hamilton and P2’s Max Verstappen to unlap … [Read more...] about Otmar Szafnauer on the Charlie Whiting joke that turned out to be true
Speculation that Charles Leclerc’s camp had a hand in Mattia Binotto’s resignation is wide of the mark because drivers don’t have that “much power”, says Naomi Schiff. Despite denying reports Binotto was on his way out of the door just two weeks ago, Ferrari announced on Tuesday that the Italian had handed in his resignation. It brought to an end a relationship spanning almost three decades, Binotto having started out in the Scuderia’s engine department before becoming its head and later team principal, a role he has held since 2019. There is, as to be expected, a great deal of speculation as to why the 53-year-old has decided now to quit with the general consensus being it was a case of jump rather than be pushed. As for where the push was coming from, that, it is being speculated, was partially from Leclerc’s camp. According to reports the Monégasque driver and his team were not happy with Binotto’s refusal to back him and him alone in the 2022 title race, their annoyance … [Read more...] about ‘Mattia Binotto would not have lasted so long if he was in another sport’
