Mercedes kicked off deliveries of the AMG One at the beginning of the year, but it looks as though prototypes are still being tested. No fewer than four were caught on camera in Granada, Spain at a rest stop. These were accompanied by a GT 4-Door Coupe in the 63 S flavor that also belonged to the peeps from Affalterbach. Seeing four is a special occasion considering the F1-engined hypercar will be a rare sight, with only 275 customer cars. It's unclear what Mercedes was testing considering production of the One started over a year ago. A follow-up hypercar has already been ruled out since the company has admitted it was a pain in the derrière to make the car comply with emissions regulations. These are about to get tougher with the Euro 7 standard coming in 2025, so slim chances of another F1 car for the road. Although the 1.6-liter V6 engine is unlikely to make it to another street-legal car, the hybrid know-how could be applied to future performance models from AMG. 2023 … [Read more...] about Four Mercedes-AMG One Hypercars Spotted Testing Together

New Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S E Performance, GLC43 Debut In Coupe Trim
For those who prefer a bit less utility in their sport utility vehicle, Mercedes-Benz is here to answer your call. Now appearing for your visual pleasure are the AMG-tweaked GLC twins, namely the GLC43 and the GLC63 S E Performance in sloped-roof Coupe format. First things first. Underneath the sleeker bodies, you'll find the same running gear as the standard AMG GLC SUVs that debuted back in July . For the GLC63 S E Performance, that means the overachieving turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 469 horsepower all on its own, with 201 hp coming from its single electric motor for a combined output of 671 peak hp and 752 pound-feet of torque. It should be noted, however, that peak power is only available for a 10-second blast. New Mercedes-AMG E53 Wagon Spied Up Close Appears To Be A PHEV
Having given the S63 and C63 a charging port, Mercedes will do the same for the E63. Before that happens, the AMG Lite E-Class is also going to be electrified considering this E53 has a fuel cap on the left side. On the regular E-Class PHEV models such as the E400e, owners juice up the battery pack from that spot. Our spies caught a partially camouflaged prototype of what is known in Germany as the T-Modell (wagon) testing in AMG guise. Unlike BMW with its shouty M Performance and M cars, Mercedes-AMG prefers a more subtle design. It does have quad exhaust tips and a Panamericana grille, but we'd argue the styling remains fairly restrained overall. This long-roof E53 is sitting closer to the road courtesy of a stiffer suspension setup and is presumably hiding AMG branding on those red brake calipers. 2024 Mercedes-AMG E53 Estate spy photos 15 Photos The German … [Read more...] about New Mercedes-AMG E53 Wagon Spied Up Close Appears To Be A PHEV
Max Verstappen bites back as Mercedes crisis continues – F1 news roundup
Qualifying day at the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka brought yet another fast-paced day of F1 news and views. Max Verstappen claimed his latest inevitable pole position and then had a message for the people who assumed Red Bull had been found out by the Singapore GP technical directive, while Mercedes were once again plunged into crisis with Lewis Hamilton airing his frustrations. Just another standard F1 2023 day, then. Here’s today’s roundup… Max Verstappen’s ‘to whom it may concern’ moment As bite backs go, Verstappen’s message to his doubters wasn’t quite on the level of Valtteri Bottas’s famous Australia 2019 radio call, but it was a juicy one nonetheless. There were more than a few who wanted to believe Red Bull had finally been found out in Singapore last weekend, but pole position by sixth tenths at Suzuka was an emphatic response. So what exactly was Max’s message to those people? “Go suck on an egg.” He went on to explain how the reaction to Red Bull’s poor … [Read more...] about Max Verstappen bites back as Mercedes crisis continues – F1 news roundup
Vasseur: Ferrari can’t “postpone the fight” with Mercedes to 2024 F1 season
In the four races held since the summer break, Ferrari has passed Aston Martin for third place in the constructors’ championship, and cut the deficit to Mercedes in second from 56 points to 20, while Carlos Sainz became the first non-Red Bull winner of the season in Singapore. Like other teams, Ferrari has already switched its wind tunnel programme to its 2024 car, but Vasseur insists that the team will continue to chase Mercedes without sacrificing any efforts towards next year’s programme. "You don't have to postpone the fight, the fight is with Mercedes today, and we have to take it,” said the Frenchman. “It's always the best way to prepare for the future, for the mindset of the team, for everybody to be into the fight is crucial. And we'll keep this fight until the end of the season." He added: “It's never a sacrifice, because I think that performance is coming from performance. It's too late to go into the wind tunnel for this season, but what we can do on the … [Read more...] about Vasseur: Ferrari can’t “postpone the fight” with Mercedes to 2024 F1 season
F1 Esports champion to make single-seater debut
Leigh, who competes for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Esports in the virtual F1 series, will race a KMR-run Spectrum SC011C during the National FF1600 season opener at Snetterton this weekend, and is also set to compete at the following meeting at Oulton Park on May 11. The BRSCC's National FF1600 championship uses spec 1600cc Ford Kent engines and largely similar wingless cars with minimal aerodynamics. KMR was vice-champion in the series last year with Michael Eastwell. Though Snetterton will be Leigh's first taste of FF1600 racing, the 19-year-old has already done three days of testing in preparation for his debut, with team boss Kevin Mills suggesting he already has the pace to perform well. "He was fast straight away," Mills told FF1600website.com . "He wasn't too different to my other two drivers [Neil Maclennan and Michael Macpherson] really. His laptimes were fairly similar. He'll go well. "I don't know about his racecraft and being used to having 20 other cars all around … [Read more...] about F1 Esports champion to make single-seater debut

Why TV cameras didn’t show Mercedes celebrating Hamilton’s Singapore F1 podium
With team-mate George Russell crashing out on the final lap at Marina Bay last weekend, chasing team-mate Hamilton claimed the final spot on the podium after the duo's aggressive late switch to medium tyres in a bid to challenge for victory. But as Hamilton took to the podium alongside race winner Carlos Sainz and runner-up Lando Norris , the TV cameras picked out the celebrating Ferrari and McLaren crews but no one from Mercedes . Social media clips have also circulated featuring photographs of seven-time world champion Hamilton being greeted after the race by the rival mechanics rather than his own team. But Mercedes has clarified that “as many of the team as it was practical” had in fact made their way down to the podium ceremony for Hamilton, but the narrative of Ferrari ending Red Bull’s perfect win streak in 2023 meant that directors were focusing the TV feed elsewhere. Mercedes technical director James Allison said: “Of course, the team was there at the … [Read more...] about Why TV cameras didn’t show Mercedes celebrating Hamilton’s Singapore F1 podium
Mercedes: Team orders all about protecting Hamilton despite “no sense” criticism
In the closing stages of the Suzuka race, one-stopping George Russell was running in fifth place, ahead of Lewis Hamilton , as the fast-charging Ferrari of Carlos Sainz closed in on them from behind. While Hamilton was on fresher tyres, there was no immediate call for Russell to move aside for his team-mate – which prompted some frustrations from the seven-time world champion over the radio. Finally Mercedes relented and asked Russell to move over. But as Hamilton then tried to pull clear, he was asked to back off and keep Russell in DRS range – with the hope being that that could help him defend better against Sainz. Hamilton felt that DRS idea was wrong, as he told the team over the radio – and repeated after the race – that it would have been much better for him to get on and build up as big a margin as possible in clear air. "I don't think that was a good idea at all," explained Hamilton. "When they suggested it to me, I knew that they had obviously thought of … [Read more...] about Mercedes: Team orders all about protecting Hamilton despite “no sense” criticism
