The next decade in cars will revolutionize the landscape, as iconic holdouts switch to electrification. When Australian outlet Car Advice asked Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Möers about the future of the brand's high-performance cars, Moërs revealed, "[The] next-generation Mercedes-AMG C 63 will be a hybrid — that's now a given." Like every other performance car maker, AMG runs a steeplechase through competing challenges, two primary ones being customer demand for more power and government demand for cleaner emissions. The current AMG C 63, just refreshed for this year, puts out 503 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Moërs said, "[We] have to be creative, and I'm chasing performance, and that's not strictly linked to the number of cylinders." With early reports of a plug-in hybrid next-generation SL getting more than 700 hp, it's reasonable to expect the entire lineup to get … [Read more...] about Mercedes-AMG C 63 performance coupe to get lots of hybrid power

New York Auto Show 2018: After the facelift of the Mercedes C-Class, the Germans now also launch the facelifted power versions Mercedes-AMG C 63 and C 63 S Coupe which get a new grille and a new transmission. The new features of the facelift are according to AMG for all four model derivatives, but initially there are only photos of the new C 63 Coupe. At first glance, the AMG-specific Panamericana radiator grille stands out, which now graces the front of the C63 after the GT models. Due to the vertical struts, the performance model from Affalterbach differs significantly from the standard C-Class. Slightly less noticeable, but also newly designed are the outer air intakes. By contrast, the new tail barely differs from its predecessor: On closer inspection, it is noticeable that the double tailpipe trims are slightly flattened than before. James, my neighbour, has a C 63 Estate, bought used from Mercedes-Benz Brooklands, home of Mercedes-Benz World, where, for about £90, you can hoof an AMG around a handling circuit. In fact, James’s 11-plate C 63, was, for the first six months of its life, one of the centre’s ‘experience’ cars, more used to opposite lock than straight ahead. Find Mercedes-AMG C 63 for sale on PistonHeads He loves it, since not only does it have the optional Performance Pack Plus that raised power from 451bhp to 480bhp, but it also, he reckons, has a bit more up its sleeve – around 20bhp. He may be right, since Mercedes-Benz Brooklands knows about tuned C 63s (it was the sole supplier of the limited-run C 63 DR520 of 2010 that put out 513bhp). Whatever its mighty 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 makes, James has found it to be completely reliable. His C 63 has now done 42,000 miles. As you’d expect, given that it has super-firm suspension and 19in wheels, its … [Read more...] about Used car buying guide: Mercedes-AMG C 63 (2008-2015)
