Dropped by Williams, Nicholas Latifi acknowledges Formula 1 is a “performance based industry” and he just wasn’t getting the results. Unable to crack the top-ten this season, there has been a lot of speculation about Latifi and his future in Formula 1. The final nail came down at Monza where the Canadian had a debutant team-mate in the car alongside him with Nyck de Vries not only out-qualifying him but scoring in a grand prix where once again Latifi was point-less. The following week Williams announced they would not be renewing the driver’s contract , the 27-year-old out after three years with the team. Having scored just twice in his 55 starts and not at all this season despite both Alex Albon and De Vries recording top-ten finishes , Latifi concedes he didn’t get the results need. That he puts down to somethings “of my control, some out of my control”. Speaking publicly for the first time since the confirmation, he told the media at the Marina Bay circuit: “It’s … [Read more...] about Nicholas Latifi speaks publicly for first time on Williams axe

Two Formula 1 teams are believed to have exceeded the sport’s budget cap in the first year it was introduced, according to reports in German and Italian media. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Red Bull, who took Max Verstappen to the world championship last year, is one of the teams which may have overspent, according to reports in La Gazzetta dello Sport and Auto Motor und Sport . F1 introduced its budget cap last season. Teams were required to keep their spending below $145 million, excluding some items such as the salaries of its drivers and top management. Any team which exceeded the spending limit stood to gain an advantage over its rivals as the additional funds could allow them to employ more staff, conduct more testing or produce more parts. Red Bull were involved in a year-long fight with Mercedes for the championship. Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton arrived at the final race tied on points. While Verstappen narrowly won the drivers’ … [Read more...] about Red Bull may have broken spending limit in Verstappen’s title-winning 2021 season – reports · RaceFans
Listen to this article Renault's performance arm Alpine will be going purely electric in 2025, but until that happens, there’s still some life left in the ol' combustion engine. Debuting October 4, the A110 R will represent the meanest derivative of the mid-engined coupe to date. We're being shown it'll also be the fastest of the bunch by topping out at 285 km/h (177 mph). That's a smidge more than the current A110 S with its maximum velocity of 275 km/h (171 mph). Ok, 177 mph is not overly impressive in the grand scheme of things. However, lest we forget the French rear-wheel-drive sports car has a (relatively) small engine. Namely, it uses the same turbocharged 1.8-liter mill found in the Renault Megane RS . When you think about it, in Europe's 2022, a 1.8 isn't that small when the vast majority of small to midsize cars sold have three-cylinder engines or four-pots with a smaller displacement. The adjacent teaser video shared on social media also reveals power will … [Read more...] about 2023 Alpine A110 R Teased With 177 MPH Top Speed
Listen to this article A combination of lower costs, particularly when compared to the LMP1 era of the FIA World Endurance Championship, and the chance to race the same car in two major series have proven key factors in luring manufacturers back to the top class of the WEC (simply known now as 'Hypercar') and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (where the equivalent class is called 'GTP'). Before we proceed to the list of marques, it's worth reiterating the differences between LMDh and LMH regulations. LMDh is essentially a successor to the successful DPi platform IMSA introduced in 2017. As was the case previously, manufacturers must base their new designs upon a next-generation LMP2 chassis, of which there are four licensed constructors: Oreca, Dallara, Ligier and Multimatic. Engine choice remains free within the scope of regulations, but all cars must now be fitted with a spec hybrid system built jointly by Bosch (inverter), Williams Advanced Engineering … [Read more...] about Who will race in WEC and IMSA with LMDh/LMH cars in 2023?
Lando Norris is thankful for the opportunity he has in Formula 1 with McLaren, although he does feel frustration as the front-runners elude him. When people discuss the drivers they believe will become the stars of Formula 1 in the coming years, Norris often is a name thrown into the mix alongside Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and George Russell. But of all those drivers, Norris is the one who understandably feels a little left out. Verstappen is on his way to a second World Championship, with Leclerc his closest challenger, while Russell is now driving for Mercedes, a team that despite having failed to challenge for a ninth Constructors’ title in succession this year, are nonetheless well placed to bounce back. Russell secured his first pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix and has made the podium seven times so far in 2022. Norris, meanwhile, finds himself in a McLaren which remains a midfield car, albeit fighting with Alpine to finish at the head of that pack … [Read more...] about Lando Norris frustrated having to bide time to fight at the front
Heading to the final street circuit on this year’s calendar, George Russell is hoping Mercedes’ performances at the Singapore Grand Prix will “be sort of validation” of the steps they’ve taken to eradicate porpoising. Mercedes’ 2022 season, the first in the all-new ground effect aerodynamic era, has been hampered by porpoising or bouncing. The floor of the W13 took hit after hit in the first half of the season, Russell and his team-mate Lewis Hamilton left with neck and back pain as a result . However, Mercedes’ hard work seems to have paid off in recent races with the car barely bouncing. Singapore, though, will be the big test. Once again racing on a street circuit where the bumps exacerbate Mercedes’ porpoising, Russell is hoping this weekend will be the team’s best performance at a street track. “I think the factors in favour are the high downforce set-up, our car seems to work better on the higher downforce,” he said as per Autosport. “[Plus] our competitors, … [Read more...] about Why Singapore could be a key sign of progress for Mercedes
