Listen to this article On-screen graphics are regularly evolving to aid fans’ understanding of F1, while fresh camera angles and techniques are constantly explored to bring the on-track action alive. But no camera angle has got as close to giving fans a true feeling of what it is like inside the F1 cockpit than Driver’s Eye. Through a small 9mm x 9mm camera fitted to the padding of the helmet, fans are able to get a closer understanding of what the drivers can see through the visor, offering some spectacular footage. One of the finest moments last year came at the opening race in Bahrain, when Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen duelled for a series of laps for the lead. The F1 TV directors were able to switch to the Driver’s Eye camera in Leclerc’s helmet throughout the scrap, giving some incredible insight into how a race-winning overtake is executed from the cockpit. Designing a camera that is capable of delivering broadcast footage while fitting within the … [Read more...] about How Driver’s Eye camera became a Formula 1 TV gamechanger

Las Vegas plots 10-year stint on F1 calendar with billion-dollar boost expected
Max Verstappen and Co won’t thunder down the Las Vegas Strip for another nine months but Sin City is already plotting its future as a Formula 1 staple. The Grand Prix calendar expands again in 2023, welcoming a Saturday night blitz past Vegas icons like Caesars Palace and the Bellagio as its 23rd World Championship event. The race intends to become the showpiece of Formula 1’s boom in the US: the third Grand Prix to take place in the States alongside Austin, which has now featured on the calendar for more than a decade, and Miami, which debuted last year. With US viewing figures soaring to an average of 1.21 million per race last year – up 23 per cent on 2021 – and Florida-born Logan Sargent joining Williams to become the first US driver on the grid since 2015, the Vegas project looks destined for success. This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 9 NEW DELHI (AP) — Utkarsh Saxena and Ananya Kotia’s love story began just like any other college romance. Except no one else knew about the gay couple’s relationship. It was 2008. Homosexuality was yet to gain a degree of acceptance in deeply conservative India, with many gay couples facing stigma and isolation. So Saxena and Kotia took their time, watching from a distance how people’s acceptance of homosexuality was changing. “We were actually quite scared about the consequences,” said Saxena, a public policy scholar at the University of Oxford. “We were very fragile and vulnerable, a young couple figuring out ourselves, and didn’t want, you know, something as drastic as this to break us in some sense.” Over the years, as Indian society became more accepting of homosexuality and much of the country’s LGBTQ community began celebrating their … [Read more...] about Indian gay couples begin legal battle for same-sex marriage
F1 teams clash over costs and revenue sharing – F1 Fanatic
In a tense press conference at the Circuit of Americas, team representatives clashed over how F1’s financial situation has led to the loss of two of their rivals. Here are some of the key points made by both sides of the discussion. Wolff: Marussia and Caterham overspent Mercedes executive director Toto Wolff said Formula One should protect its nine remaining teams but that Marussia and Caterham ran into trouble because they were spending beyond their means. I have an emotional and a pragmatic view. The emotional view is that there is personal drama behind it. There are families who need to pay mortgages, there are kids going to school and these people don’t have any jobs today anymore and that is a drama and it is painful and I am sorry for that. The rational side of things is that we have seen in the past that teams come and go. We have seen great teams who have folded, went into liquidation or administration. Great names: Brabham, Arrows, Ligier, Prost, Larousse, Leyton … [Read more...] about F1 teams clash over costs and revenue sharing – F1 Fanatic
Valtteri Bottas: Statement ban is not ‘necessary’ but ‘this is Formula 1’
Valtteri Bottas has followed up his previous comments on the FIA ban of driver statements by saying it is not “necessary” to have such a rule in place. The Alfa Romeo driver became the first within the paddock to speak out against the new FIA regulation which muzzles the drivers from making any kind of statement without the permission of the governing body. Bottas said he was unsure why the FIA sought to “control” the drivers , a poignant point considering all of the statements made last season by drivers were for worthwhile causes such as climate change, equal rights and support for the LGBTQ+ community. The Finn has now followed up on these comments by again expressing his disagreement with the rule and stating that he believed everyone has the right to say what they want. “I think everybody should be allowed to say what they want and support things that they want or have passion [for],” he told Sky Sports . “Because I think people in this world should be free to say … [Read more...] about Valtteri Bottas: Statement ban is not ‘necessary’ but ‘this is Formula 1’
