A family reunion without awkward questions. Good. Most enthusiasts love station wagons and let's face it, Audi is one of the reasons why performance long-roofs have become a want among car nuts. And when it comes to Audi performance wagons, the RS4 and RS6 Avant models should be the first names to come to mind. We've seen a drag race between RS4 Avant generations before , now it's time to see four generations of the bigger go-fast estates go head-to-head in a straight-line race. Of course, the video's from Carwow , which hosted the previous RS4 drag race two years ago. Gallery: 2021 Audi RS6 Avant: Review 38 Photos Before starting with the video above, let us give you a backgrounder for each contender in this drag race . Herne waiting for last-minute medical clearance
The teenager was involved in a spectacular start-line crash at Phillip Island last Sunday, his car launched into the air after he clipped the back of pole-sitter Thomas Randle. The heavy landing prompted concerns he could have injured his back, Herne undergoing initial treatment at the circuit before being transferred to hospital . He was later cleared of any serious injury. However he's technically yet to be given the green light to get back in the cockpit for this weekend's Sandown event. The crash was significant enough that his licence was basically suspended and requires a medical sign-off before being revalidated. As it stands Herne is awaiting the final paperwork for the clearance process to be complete, with his Garry Rogers Motorsport team expecting it to come through before the first practice session at 10am local time tomorrow. Supercars medical delegate Dr Carl Le has led the way on the medical clearance. S5000 will make its second … [Read more...] about Herne waiting for last-minute medical clearance
Carrera Cup imposes professional driver limit in Australia
The move comes as Porsche looks to bolster its stock of amateur drivers in the one-make series, following a dip at the semi-professional and gentleman driver end of the grid thanks largely to the Australian GT boom. The limit will mean there will be no more than 10 front-running professionals on the grid next season, with effectively just nine 'Pro' spots up for grabs thanks to the graduation programme through the GT3 Cup Challenge series. “It’s not bold, it’s the right move,” said Porsche Cars Australia Director of Public Relations and Motorsport Paul Ellis. “This is customer motorsport, and the backbone of Carrera Cup racing is customers that don’t necessarily want a career in motorsport, but want to have good, top-level motorsport. That’s what Carrera Cup is all about. “The pros will come and go, the pros will use Carrera Cup as a stepping stone to further their career. But the semi-professional drivers will be the backbone of Carrera Cup, they’ll stay one year, two … [Read more...] about Carrera Cup imposes professional driver limit in Australia
Morris set for Erebus Supercars laps
The son of Bathurst 1000 winner Paul Morris has made rapid progress since taking up circuit racing in 2019. He started out in Hyundai Excels, before sporadic outings in a Toyota 86 and a Super3-spec Ford Falcon Supercar in 202o. Morris Jr has stepped up his commitment this year with a full Super3 programme, scoring a podium on debut at Bathurst last month. He also competed in the Trans Am round at Phillip Island last week, taking a seventh, fifth and eighth from the three races, and is set to compete at the Bathurst round next month. Morris worked with the Erebus Motorsport squad over a breakthrough Sandown weekend that saw Brodie Kostecki score his first Supercars podium. He has stayed on for today's ride day at the Melbourne circuit, where he'll represent the family-owned Norwell Motorsport complex, an Erebus sponsor. He's also likely to take the wheel of one of the team's two Holdens to take passengers on rides, marking his first laps in a main game … [Read more...] about Morris set for Erebus Supercars laps
S5000 testing to resume next Friday
The category has been on hiatus since its opening round, the Australian Grand Prix back in March, was cancelled after a single day of running. However as coronavirus restrictions in Australia continue to lift testing can now get underway, with Garry Rogers Motorsport set to run 17-year-olds Nathan Herne and Cooper Webster at Phillip Island on Friday. It will mark a first taste of S5000 hardware for both, Herne coming from Trans Am and Webster a renowned karter. GRM's regular S5000 driver James Golding will be on hand to guide the young guns. “Our vision for the category was to make S5000 as affordable as possible, and have a car that you can suit both the experienced and young driver,” said GRM boss Barry Rogers. “As has been the case with Garry and the team for many, many years, we are keen on bringing young latent through, and although challenging, S5000 is a level playing field and it allows the drivers to show their skills. “It’s a big step for both … [Read more...] about S5000 testing to resume next Friday
