February 1, 2023 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

Tom Brady, the legendary quarterback who established himself over more than two decades as the NFL's most prolific winner and arguably its greatest player, announced Wednesday that he is retiring. This time, he said, he will not change his mind. "I'll get to the point right away: I'm retiring, for good," Brady said in a 53-second video posted to social media. "I know the process was a pretty big deal last time. So when I woke up this morning, I figured I'd just press record and let you guys know first. So I won't be long-winded. You only get one super-emotional retirement essay, and I used mine up last year." Brady, 45, won seven Super Bowls over his 23 NFL seasons with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is the league's career leader in passing yards and touchdown passes, among many other categories. He was a three-time league MVP and a five-time Super Bowl MVP. "I really thank you guys so much . . . for supporting me - my family, my friends, my teammates, … [Read more...] about Tom Brady announces he is retiring from the NFL ‘for good’

February 8, 2021 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

Rep. Dan Crenshaw definitely tuned into the Super Bowl last night , and like any good American, offered his personal commentary on Twitter. Except it was never really about the game. Crenshaw, like any good American who doesn't care about football, paid far more attention to the commercials. But apparently, the congressman didn't think the ads were up to snuff this year. THANKS, TOM BRADY: 'Mattress Mack' wins $3.46 million on Super Bowl bet "These commercials are proof that celebrities had a lot of free time this year," Crenshaw tweeted out. These commercials are proof that celebrities had a lot of free time this year. — Dan Crenshaw (@DanCrenshawTX) February 8, 2021 Firstly, we've all had a lot of free time this year. There's still a pandemic going on. Secondly, Crenshaw seems to have forgotten what he spent part of 2020 doing: Jumping out of planes for political ads. Crenshaw released two action movie-style ads last year in support of Republican … [Read more...] about Rep. Dan Crenshaw apparently forgot what he spent 2020 doing

(AP) — Patrick Mahomes finished a full week of practice on his ailing right ankle Friday, and Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid pronounced his All-Pro quarterback ready to go for the AFC championship game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Mahomes sustained a high ankle sprain in the first quarter of last week's divisional-round win over Jacksonville, returning after halftime to polish off the victory. That sent the Chiefs to their fifth consecutive AFC championship game, where they will face the AFC North champions on Sunday night in a rematch of last year's overtime loss to the Bengals. “He looks good,” Reid said. “I mean, he’s moving around good. He’s going to go out and play.” Mahomes has had perhaps his best season, throwing for a career-high 5,250 yards with a league-leading 41 touchdown passes, and garnered 49 of 50 first-place … [Read more...] about Chiefs’ Mahomes ready for AFC title game against Bengals

There are no shortage of Texas connections in Super Bowl LVII, and there's no better place to start than the quarterback position. The Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Hurts and Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes are both former Texas high school football standouts. Hurts, a Houston native, played for his father at Channelview. Mahomes starred at Whitehouse, located just outside of Tyler, before taking his talents to Texas Tech. Mahomes is no stranger to the Super Bowl stage—he won MVP honors for his role in the Chiefs' victory in the 2019 championship, with Kansas City coming up short against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the following year's title game. Hurts, meanwhile, is set join Mahomes as one of the youngest players in NFL history to make their Super Bowl debut. F1 rumours: Lewis Hamilton’s new £120 million contract includes ambassadorial role

January 17, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Lewis Hamilton has reportedly been offered a £60 million per season extension to his current Mercedes deal which expires at the end of 2023. The extension of Hamilton seems like a matter of when rather than if with both the driver and team principal Toto Wolff saying they would like the relationship to continue. Wolff said the two would sit down over the winter break and come to agreement but a new deal has yet to be announced as Hamilton trains in Antarctica ahead of the new campaign. Rumours have emerged though that a contract has been agreed, as well as some of the details of the deal which will keep Hamilton at the Silver Arrows. According to sports business outlet Sportune , they reported that Hamilton has been offered a salary of €70 million (£62 million) a season which is a raise from his current deal of €45 million (£40 million). However, unlike his existing contract, the new terms does not have a €25 million (£22 million) bonus for winning the World Championship. … [Read more...] about F1 rumours: Lewis Hamilton’s new £120 million contract includes ambassadorial role

Report: DeMeco Ryans, Houston Texans have ‘traction’ after interview

January 22, 2023 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

The Houston Texans ' head coaching search continues to roll on as we enter late January, but it appears progress has been made with one candidate that's particularly popular in the Bayou City. San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans —a former Defensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowl linebacker with the Texans during the early days of the franchise—interviewed with Houston on Friday. It seems the conversation was productive, with ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reporting on SportsCenter that the meeting "went pretty late into the evening." Fowler went on to add that "people around the league believe [Ryans] has traction in Houston", while noting that Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon "has some traction there as well." Gannon, who was one of the front-runners in the Texans' head coaching search last offseason, has also interviewed with the team. . @SportsCenter updates on DeMeco Ryans’ busy 72 hours; what people around league are saying on … [Read more...] about Report: DeMeco Ryans, Houston Texans have ‘traction’ after interview
